I got the htc hero with some kind of custom firmware on it, so i threw on a rooted version of the original firmware to get a feel for it without all the cutsom stuff. Now i went and installed modaco 3.1 and i miss the sense ui. IS there any way to install modaco 3.1 with the sense ui?
View 7 Replies View RelatedWhat would people's favorite ROM be? MoDaCo or Villain? I recently rooted my HTC Hero and installed Villain 5.4 on it. However, I've noticed the battery drains quicker than previous Android 1.5 that was on it. I've changed to "GSM only" in phone settings (*#*#INFO#*#*) and also have changed some settings with regard to display timeout etc etc.
View 18 Replies View RelatedI have a Telus HTC Hero and for a few weeks now my GPS simply stopped working with google-maps. It keeps saying "can't find location". If I use Gps Status app, it shows a compass and shows how fast I'm moving in what ever direction, but for some reason google maps can't seem to lock on. I've tried hard and soft resets, turning triangulation on off, GPS on off.
View 3 Replies View RelatedHaving a few issues with wifi connectivity (which admittedly could be down to my router) so i thought id try updating my Hero's Radio Rom. Just wanted to clear up a few things before proceeding:
What is difference between 63.18.55.06EU_6.35.06.18 and 63.18.55.06FU_6.35.07.08? To apply the update do i simply rename the Rom archive update.zip and update as normal? and finally, does anyone have experience with the above rom on Orange? No issues with HSPDA / GPRS / Wifi connectivity?
If I make a Nandroid+EXT and a BART backup, wipe and then install Villain (or any other 2.1 ROM) is it completely roll backable by wiping and restoring either the Nandroid+EXT or the BART? The wipe affects nothing? Also, if I decide I like it, can I perform an EXT restore only and maintain my App2SD?
View 27 Replies View RelatedI can't seem to find much info on how re-flashing the Radio is different to the ROM ?
I'm on a UK Orange phone with the Modaco 2.9.
Reception is generally good, however there are times in good reception areas when I get an answerphone message come through when I havent moved away from a good reception area.. So it appears that the phone is dropping reception - I have read this before on the forum IIRC.
Hopefully updating the Radio will help? Which one and is it as easy as updating the ROM ?
The Beta version of the MoDaCo Custom Custom ROM 3.1 for GSM Hero online kitchen is now available!
11/Jan 3.1 - Online kitchen for MoDaCo Custom ROM for GSM Hero - Android @ MoDaCo
The online kitchen is currently only available to my MoDaCo premium members (those who have signed up to MoDaCo Ad Free or MoDaCo Plus) as it is not yet running on an infrastructure that can support a huge number of users. This will be the case for the foreseeable future as the kitchen system is developed.
With that said, for those who can test the kitchen, enjoy! I've had this vision for a long time, so it's exciting to see the pieces falling together - both here and in the Android 'scene' - to make it happen!
This technology will be coming to other ROMs and will also be available for other ROM creators to use via our Chef's Team.
You can now create a customised ROM containing only the parts you required - click here to read more about the MoDaCo Custom Custom ROM online kitchen!
MCR now optionally includes Wavesecure in ROM, allowing you to lock / locate / wipe your device remotely in the event of loss and be notified if the SIM is changed. The application cannot be uninstalled by a thief and we are actively working with Wavesecure to ensure that in a forthcoming release, your settings will survive a hard reset!
This ROM is based on the updated 'MR' ROM release series (together with my own optimisations) for the best possible performance! The ROM is packaged as a core version with optional add on packs.
Included in the 'core'
- Built with my new MCR build process which reduces size and boost speed of the ROM
- Rooted with 'adb remount' permission and superuser APK
- A2SD included (fully automatic - thanks cyanogen!) - create a EXT2 partition as your second partition to use. dalvik-cache remains on device.
- Added Jbed Java
- Added Dropbear SSH running by default, check 'About' screen for password (port 2222). You can now remove this by running /system/bin/removedropbear.sh
- Added Notes app from Dragon
- Added Spare Parts (run it and switch the 2 animation types to 'fast' for an even better experience!)
- Added WiFi Status indicator, with kind permission of Andrew Schwimmer
- Added busybox 1.15.3 with Droid Explorer support
- Added nano 2.09 - text editor for use in shell mode
- Added parted and sqlite tools
- Added terminfo and settings to boot.img to allow nano etc. use
- Added files required for Debian linux including loxley's updated bootdeb script
- Added all 4 available HTC widgets
- Moved Quickoffice to data partition to allow easy uninstall
- Moved Google Maps and Google Voice Search to data partition to allow easy update
- Deleted 'Learn More' application
- Silenced boot sound (it's still there and can be reactivated with a file edit)
- You can now check your MoDaCo Custom ROM (MCR) version from the about menu
Included in main 'enhanced' add on pack
- Added Business Card Scanner
- Added 'Plurk' client
- Added WAP browser
Other optional add on packs (apply as normal update zips)
- 'WaveSecure' add on pack (puts Wavesecure in ROM - it is no longer in core)
- 'Boot Sounds' add on pack (restores boot sounds)
- 'Hebrew Fonts' add on pack (installs hebrew fonts)
Recommended applications (available from the market)
- More Locale for setting non english Locales

11/Jan 2.0 - MoDaCo Custom ROM for Sprint CDMA Hero - Android @ MoDaCo
ENSURE YOU DO A NANDROID BACKUP SO YOU CAN 'ROLL BACK' IF REQUIRED!
Please note that first boot may take a little while, especially if you have a lot of apps on your A2SD partition. Be patient! If you want a real clean start or you have issues with your existing A2SD installed apps when you boot, you need to wipe your EXT2 partition on SD too by executing 'adb shell rm -r /system/sd/app', 'adb shell rm -r /system/sd/app-private' and 'adb shell reboot'
The ROM is in an update.zip format for installation via the custom recovery image.
For the complete newbies, these are the steps you need to take with a 'virgin' Hero:
- Download and install (via rooting) the patched recovery image (step by step guide to follow)
- Download this custom ROM, and copy it to your SD card
- Enter the recovery image (if you're not in it already) by powering on while pressing 'home'
- Select 'nandroid backup' from the menu to do a backup
- If you copied the custom rom as update.zip, select 'apply sdcard:update.zip', else select the option below.
- all done
Feedback / feature requests welcome! This ROM is posted in multiple places - although I try to provide support everywhere the ROM is posted, of course you will receive the quickest response at MoDaCo.
Finally, if you like the MoDaCo Custom ROMs, consider supporting MoDaCo by visiting the subscriptions page and upgrading your account.
Sorry, a bit general and probably another Dumpty question (bits covered in other threads)
I have a sim free Hero (now on O2). Was working ok, but now seems to be getting very slow. I think my ROM is very old:
Firmware Version: 1.5
Baseband Version: 63.18.55.06U_6.35.04.25
Kernel Version: 2.6.27-a5504199
Build Number: 1.76.405.6 146733
Software Version: 1.0.0.A6288
What's my best option? Upgrade to the standard HTC ROM or go with Modaco? Are there other options? Is the android version linked to the ROM upgrade and if so, worth waiting for 2.1?
If it helps, I don't really use the phone too advanced. Sync to google and yahoo mail, some internet, music and a few apps.
I want to unlock htc hero from orange. I have the unlock code which does not work due to bug in rom.
As of now i dont have a orange sim and my hero is reset to factory settings . so i always see a screen asking me to insert sim card.
My question is can i still go ahead and downgrade my rom and install modaco 2.9 to unlock my mobile?
As the title really - for example full charge last night about 1am, currently sitting at 58%.would last a few days before flashing I'm not running anything differently - everything that's switched on was switched on before if you know what I mean! Is there anything I can do? Apart from going back to the previous (very slow in comparison) ROM.I have taskpanel installed to auto kill pretty much everything apart from the UI and messages.
View 3 Replies View RelatedFor one reason another it needs to go back to how it was as it came out of the factory !

Loads but can't find directions. GPS is on. Anyone having this problem today?

View 4 Replies View RelatedAfter working well for the first month or so, it looks like GPS is not working very well for me. I'm not sure what changed. I now, when using the locate feature in Google Maps, often find myself in the middle of the Pacific off the Social shore. I usually try to remain on land when possible, though. Or it my randomly 'telephonist' me a few hundred yards off in some direction, then I'm back withing seconds. But a lot of the time it's not able to really locate me well at all. I think the network locating is doing 'k', but GPS is failing pretty bad lately. The icon shows GPS working, and I try disabling and re-enabling it. But that doesn't help. Anyone else having issues with GPS accuracy? Any apps that can help 'fine-tune' the GPS?
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy phone hasn't been able to locate a GPS signal when using Google Navigation/Maps for about the past five days. I only really noticed this problem last Thursday... which seems about the same time I received the latest update. The timing would indicate the two are related?
The GPS is turned on, and the satellite icon displays on the toolbar. The phone displays "Searching for GPS" at the bottom. I'm running Locale, and it continues to recognize conditions based on location data... so it would seem the GPS is still working for that, at least.
People are saying that you can download Google Maps, but it does NOT work and crashes on launch. What is going on with this phone?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI live in Sweden and the application is on my phone, but does not work. That is odd because it doesn't seem like it would be that difficult to do, especially if Google Maps already gives turn-by-turn directions. I'm guessing it might have to do with the language or pronunciation of the streets. I don't mind using it in English, though.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo as the handle suggests I need step by step directions to do anything involving a computer. I took a jump by rooting my eris, and now I have a problem and don't know how to fix it! which is frustrating, but it is exactly the reason why I rooted in the first place! To have a reason to learn this stuff! So here I am reaching for help. The problem with my phone is that when I open google maps and type two or three characters on it it force closes on me. 50% of the reason to get this phone was for google maps. It could replace a gps with longer battery life than 4 hours which means I can leave the house and ride all day without having to plug it in. Any way I have tried turning off the phone, turning it back on, and clearing the settings on the application then turning it off again. still I get a force close message. It is using 2.1, but I am not sure which version it is using. would updating to a newer rom like 2.1 v3 help? if so how would I go about it?
