HTC Eris : Running Several Settings On SetCPU But Still Low Battery Life

Aug 16, 2010

I have tried several different Froyo Roms over the past very weeks. I still can't get any good battery life out of them compaired to running EE3.0. Yet everyone tells me they get better battery life while running Froyo. My phone has currently been unplugged for 9hrs 13 mins. It has a total of 50 mins talk time and I have sent 30+ text messages. My battery level is @ %73 running EE3.0

I can't get a total of 11hrs out of my phone when running any of the Froyo Roms. Ive tried running several different settings on SetCPU but nothing noticable. Only thing I notice is that when running Froyo the largest use of my battery is my Display. Yet when running EE3.0 the largest use is Cell Standby and Display is the lowest. But I have tried turning the brightness almost all the way down on the Froyo ROM but it doesn't make any difference.

HTC Eris : Autokiller Vs SetCPU / Maximize Battery Life Of Phone?

Aug 25, 2010

I am trying to maximize the battery life of my phone. I keep coming across an app refereed to as AUTOKILLER?

Just what is this app, and what are the benefits? If I am running SetCPU, do I need to run both? Do I need Advanced Task Killer too?

(FYI, I am running Cyanogen Tazz 1.0, and besided not having the trackball light up, I am loving it. I just want to get optimized battery life)

HTC Desire :: SetCPU - Increase Battery Life

Sep 6, 2010

SetCPU claims to be able to increase your battery life by limiting the speed your processor can run at. This seems like sound reasoning at first, but then I remember roughly what a CPU is and how it works...

So let's say you've set a profile so that when the screen is off it will be limited to half the clock speed; around 500mHz. Lets then say your email wants to get updated, so your processor chugs away that that. If it was set to full capacity it may take say, 1 second to complete the task then go back to it's idol state. With SetCPU limiting it, it would take twice as long and would still use exactly the same number of cycles as before.

In fact, when you think about it, it doesn't actually matter what speed your phones processor is running at all the time, what matters is how much work you're asking it to do. Surely the best and only way to increase battery life is to simply have your processor complete less tasks, therefore using less clock cycles? Sending a text message uses the same amount of clock cycles no matter what your max setting is, so as a result uses the same amount of power.

If anything, having SetCPU running all the time just gives your phone more work to do and therefore decreases battery life?

HTC Incredible :: Increase Battery Life - Is SETCPU Working?

Oct 7, 2010

I rooted my phone about 2 days ago and I did a nandroid backup, titanium backup, used titanium backup to freeze some of the bloatware.. Have not yet installed any ROMs or Kernels. I got SetCPU and made several profiles in an attempt to increase my battery life. I wanted to see if it was working so I set up a widget, and despite the fact that my battery was at 20% (I have a <25% battery profile setting) the max was still 998

HTC Desire : Extremely Bad Battery Life - Running Froyo

Aug 22, 2010

After the 2.2 update, my battery has been starting to be extremely bad. I recharged it yesterday until it was 100% charged. Now, 18 hours later, the battery is at 15%.

I only used my HTC Desire to do this:

1. Listening to offline songs through Wimp, a Spotify-clone, for about an hour.

2. Texting 3-4 sms.

3. Doing 1 call.

4. Having it on while I was asleep.

My battery was usually lasting 3-4 days with this kind of use, but now it's so bad.

Here are the running apps (if that is of anyones interest):
com.fd.httpd - 2.9MB
net.rgruet.android.g3watchdog - 2.9MB
com.metago.astro - 2.8MB
com.aspiro.wamp - 10MB
com.lookout - 4.4MB
com.htc.bgp - 12MB
com.google.process.gapps - 7.6MB
com.facebook.katana - 14MB
com.swype.android.inputmethod - 15MB

Does anyone suffer from something similar?

Motorola Droid 2 :: Running Applications List And Battery Life

Nov 15, 2010

Just got a Droid 2 and I'm tinkering around. I saw the "Running Apps" list and its pretty useful if I say so myself. However is it necessary to go in there and stop apps that I'm not using all the time to save battery life? Do apps still run after their closed, because Facebook was running after use. And when stopping apps my phone tells me that "this can have undesired consequences on the app" which scared me a bit. I haven't even done my first charge yet, but my battery went down about 40% in about 2 and a half hours.

General :: How Do Running Services Effect Battery Life And Responsiveness

May 8, 2013

I have been using HTC Desire S for about 2 yrs now, but since I am not a power user, I just use it as it came. Now considering to root it and was looking more closely at things and I see there are many services running in the background under "Running".

I don't know the inner workings of Android system, so would like to know if more services are running (especially from apps which I don't regularly use) then does it effect battery life and does it make the phone slower ?

For example under Calendar, 4 services are running - AutoSettingService, ImmediateModeService, DashboardService,ConnecttoPcService.

Google Maps has TrafficAppWidgetUpdateService and PrefetcherService ( I rarely use Google maps because I use offline rmaps)

Another thing is I have a prepaid connection without a data plan so I would like to control which apps connect to the net when i switch on 3G - i mean I would prefer if only the app which I want to use the data should use it, while others should not.

And there are some things taking data, which i don't really understand - but since they are related to Android system I am not sure whether to try to restrict them (Android System, HTC Function test, HTC Checkin service, Settings storage, VPN, Status bar, Bluetooth, Google backpp transport, etc, Phone, Dialer Storage, SIM toolkit)

Any general idea about these services - battery and network usage and effect on responsiveness ?

Motorola CLIQ :: Changing Auto Refresh Settings To Save Battery Life?

Mar 21, 2010

I've read that BLUR refreshes all the info it needs for it's social widgets every 15 minutes even if you don't have any widgets placed on your home screen. I'm thinking about buying a Cliq but the fact that BLUR is a battery killer turns me off since the main reason I want to upgrade from my G1 is to have a phone with a keyboard that has better battery life. Is there any way to turn this "Auto refresh" feature off or at least make it longer than every 15 minutes? Even better are there any BLURless roms out there? has any1 tried deleting the BLUR widgets apk? would that make it so it doesnt have to "refresh"? having more memory available from being BLURless is just icing on the cake what really matters to me is battery life.

Yes, I have read the SetCPU guide, but it doesn't really make any recommendations to actual profiles.I am currently running Ivans Official, and for me, with heavy usage, I may get a a day. I tried Plain Jane, but would only get about 8 hours. Should I consider a Froyo based ROM? From what I have read, they don't seem to be much better in terms of battery life.

I was curious as to what settings people were using on their phone and home launchers (pro or otherwise) to extend battery life on xtrROM. Right now I'm getting pretty crappy battery life, but I'm pretty sure the culprits are all animations and live wall papers. Just want to get a feel for what other things I can give up to keep the things that I enjoy (and yes I enjoy the LWP and animations).

Unrelated question, is any harm done to the phone by keeping USB debugging off? I had to turn it on to use SetCPU.

HTC Droid Eris :: Improve The Battery Life?

Feb 23, 2010

how to improve the battery life on my Eris, but much of it didn't seem to apply or help much. All I really got out of it was "if you turn off all of the cool features of this new smartphone, your battery will last longer". What's the point? Anyway, the problem that I'm having with my battery is that is seem to drain very, very fast. For example: I took it off of the charger today @ 7:10am. It is now 8:35am and I'm down to 85%. I'll have to put it on the charger again by 2pm. That's really terrible. I don't sit and put a heavy load on it all day with tons of surfing, etc. I have it check my email accounts once per hour, and its doing the normal smartphone things in the background (weather, etc). I'm running the GDE home app with the iDroid theme. I used to have Advanced Task Killer and would periodically kill off any running apps, but I got the impression that it drained the battery so I uninstalled it.

I'm just trying to figure out how to tell what could be going on that is running the battery down so quickly (in my mind that is). I think that something must be running that's doing it, because as a side effect, I notice that at times, the phone is very slow to respond. For instance, when I go into my email, it takes between 5 and 10 minutes to bring it up, click Menu->Delete->Mark All->Delete, then go back to main screen. Not acceptable

HTC Droid Eris :: Anyone With Improved Battery Life On 2.1?

Jun 2, 2010

I didn't at first, but I have been for at least the last week. I'm not entirely certain why, though. I used to be below 30% at the end of every day (1.5 and 2.1 OTA), regardless of how much/little I used the phone. Often having to put it on the charger when I got home from work just to make it through the evening. Lately, I've been ending my day (15+ hours off the charger) at 50-60% remaining, consistently. I'm curious to know if others have experienced this, or if it's just something weird with my phone. AFAIK, most of the data sync settings are exactly the same as they were.

Interestingly, I am leaving 3g and GPS on always, now, where I used to turn them on only when needed. Also, it seems that my mail and weather widgets are not updating as consistently, which could be leading to some increases. I have used the "end all" in System Panel a few times when the battery seemed to be draining extra fast, but I have my mail, weather, sms, etc. Excluded, so I don't know if that's it.

HTC Eris :: Battery Life Improves - Cpu Speed 19.2

Sep 16, 2010

First and foremost, I fully advocate setting your CPU speed (via SetCPU, Gscripts, or otherwise) to 19.2 MHz Minimum, On Demand, across all profiles. This will greatly improve your battery life and you will not see a decrease in performance. (NOTE: Do NOT adjust your CPU minimum to 19.2 MHz if you are running the BFS or CFS kernels.) Now, follow these steps to optimize and calibrate your actual battery: With your phone powered ON, plug it into the charger. Charge until the LED is Green, showing the phone as being fully charged. Disconnect the phone from the charger and power it OFF as quickly as possible. Once the screen and your menu lights are completely dark, showing your phone as being completely OFF, reconnect the phone to the charger. Charge until the LED is Green, showing the phone as being fully charged. Disconnect your phone from the charger. Power your phone ON and, as quickly as possible, power it back OFF. Reconnect your phone to the charger. Once the LED is Green, boot into Recovery by holding Power On + Vol Up simultaneously. In Recovery, go to Wipe > Battery Stats. Go back and Power Off your phone from Recovery. Ensure that your phone is now completely OFF and that the LED is Green. Disconnect your phone and Power On. Use as normal.

HTC Eris : Set For Balance Between Performance And Battery Life?

Aug 15, 2010

Got some great help last night getting setcpu up and running and there is some difference, mostly because I'm using LWP. I just had some questions on setting it up correctly. On the main page, you have the two scroll bars (I have both set to 710 and haven't had any problems) , under that is the Scaling option, What exactly does that do, and how should it be set for the balance between performance and battery life?

Follow up question, under profiles, is there any recommended profiles I should set up? Currently I have Screen off: 528/528 on demand with priority 50 (not sure what all of this means though). Are there any others that should be established?
