View 12 Repliesyesterday i rooted my desire but i have no interest in installing a custom rom. all i want to install is apps2sd or apps2sd +i have read many guides but most of them conflict each other.if i was to follow these steps what would be wiped from the phone.
Using the optical trackpad select Wipe > Wipe data/factory reset
After this has completed do Wipe > Wipe cache
Again, once this has completed do Wipe > Wipe Dalvik-cache.
I understand that the sd card gets wiped and that is not a problem, i'm more worried what gets wiped from the phone memory (not worried about installed apps) also can i do the ext3/4 from the phone as i only have windows 7.
I want to install cwm on my samsung galaxy young s6312, stock android 4.1.2, rooted. I want to know that if I install cwm using rom manager, have I got the risk of bricking my phone????
View 1 Replies View RelatedThey tell me this will change again when the Droid X and Samsung Galaxy get 2.2 - I wouldn't know. Until then, here's our moment in the sun. Made this using the Quadrant benchmark, free from the Market, using a the stock rooted 2.2 rom and the netarchy-toastmod 3.7.6c kernel with the 30 fps cap lifted. No over-clocking, no hair-on-fire super tweaks, no killing every process to tweak the benchmark - just downloaded and run, the number on the bar says 1165.

The Nexus One 2.2 at the top uses the exact same processor (aside from the radio-control circuit) as our EVO. I attribute its higher score to the fact that it's sleeker and not running Sense. I happen to like Sense so I don't care.
In preparation for the release of the official HTC 2.1 ROM, can I have come advise on how I go about changing from the Villain Rom 5.3 that I'm currently running to the new official one?
Will I need to re-install the original 1.5 ROM and then wait for the OTA update to arrive, or will I be able to download it off the web and install it on the phone via my PC?
I'm running unrevoked rooted stock 2.2 and have ROM Manager installed. I'm trying to install DSP Manager and the following happens:
Select Download ROM
Select Virtuous
Select Extra Goodies
Click the "Download" button
Select "DSP Audio Manager"
Click the OK button
Select "Backup Existing ROM"
Click the OK Button
Click the OK button on the "Reboot and Install" dialog
Phone reboots to Skating Androids screen. Bootloader is selected, so I press the power button (my other options are Reboot, Reboot Bootloader, and Power Down). I get a new Skating Androids screen that shows Fastboot, Recovery, Clear Storage, Simlock and Factory Reset. I select Recovery and press the power button. Back to the same screen from step 10.
Are there any custom Google search bars that you can install on your phone instead of the plain white search bar?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have several android tablets, all but one (at this moment) are rooted. I am not interested in putting a custom rom on them at the moment (mainly because not all functions -like camera- are working on all devices) but I would like the ability to do a Nandroid backup that seems to be only available with custom roms. On one device I can't unlock the bootloader (Azpen A701), don't know about the unrooted one at this time (brand new Hisense Sero 7 pro).
Is there a way to add CWM to a rooted stock android (only root applied and associated superuser/busybox apps installed)? What are the requirements (unlocked bootloader?)? Where to get said CWM and how to install it?
can we install custom roms through stock recovery?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to search around but I'm not coming up with anything Is this possible to do?I miss being able to long-press a key to get its "shift" key (numbers, symbols, etc) instead of having to press the 123 key to switch layouts every time.I also liked how the "click" sound wasn't as loud as the typewriter-like sound on the non-Sense keyboard yes I like to have the sound and vibrate on - makes it feel like more of a button press instead of nothing I tried Swype before and still ended up going back to the HTC keyboard before I rooted. Are there any similar options? (or can I find the HTC keyboard apk anywhere??)
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a Sprint HTC Hero 2.1 Update 6. Today, I installed universal one-click root app onto my phone from this link : [APP] [ROOT] 1-click root for N1 (Latest ver: 1.6.2 beta 5) - xda-developers and I believe I got my phone rooted. Now, I am hoping to get custom recovery image installed on my phone so that I can nandroid back up my current stock 2.1 based image before installing CM6. I was hoping to try clockworkmod through ROM Manager app. Does this image work in HTC Hero ? If not, is there any other recovery image that I should try for my 2.1 hero ?

View 10 Replies View RelatedI am getting calls going straight to voicemail with no missed calls on my phone, when I have full signal, so orange have (after a lot of calls) agreed to terminate my contract. I have to return my phone (shame I could not keep it for free!) and have rooted my phone, and installed the modaco ROM.
I want to return it with an orange ROM, and was wondering if I can just install the updated orange ROM on my phone over the top of the modaco, and has anyone done this successfully? From reading around I am assuming that this would hide the fact that I have ever rooted or installed a custom ROM, as I want to be back on warranty?
Back when trying to in stall the adb driver for my droid eris. i put the phone in debugging, then i installed the sdk, downloaded the driver, told the install hardware prompt the path to the driver and it still wont install it. i am using the leaked non rooted firmware version 2.1.

View 23 Replies View RelatedI rooted my Droid Eris 2 days ago and have had multiple problems with it. The first problem was it wasn't receiving a signal at all. The 2nd problem I had was after I had wiped my device flashed the ROM and rebooted it kept saying htc.touch.input.app has encountered a problem and i had to force close it. Now it is not letting me get in to the stock messaging app to read any texts.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am new at rooting and installing custom ROMS at android.
I tried to root my android mobile (Qmobile A-900, which is a rebranded version of Gionee Elife E3 Specs and Data sheet) from here and was sucessful.
I installed "MTK mobileuncle" app from google play store which would reboot phone to CWM Recovery when i select "recovery update" option.
Next i tried to install a custom Rom and followed each and every step mentioned here "For CWM Recovery i follwed steps mentioned here"
I made by current stock ROM backup file into SD saved in path SDCARDclockworkmodackup Then in CWM recovery mode i selected Format data/factory reset , then Install from ZIP, Select the Downloaded Zip (selected the custom ROM zip which was 383 Mb, the screen then installed and i recieved "sucessfully installed message while in cwm which then said that i should Reboot my phone which i did.
But now i just get my old Stock Rom welcome logo when i boot my phone for 3 sec and then it restarts and the same thing happens again and again.
"I know its not bricked coz it still displays stock rom logo and starts for a while."

Taking screenshots on an Android-based phone by Christina Warren
Even before playing with the new Android phone, the T-Mobile G1, I knew that I would need to be able to take screenshots of the phone itself. Using a digital camera to capture screens externally just wasn't going to cut it. Because the Android platform is open (and now, open source), I really didn't expect this to be a problem. If anything, I thought there would be a way to take screenshots directly from the device like you can with the iPhone and iPod Touch. Alas, I discovered this is not the case. After scouring Google trying to find answers, I asked Engadget's Editor-in-Chief Josh Topolsky what they used for the screenshots in their review, and he was nice enough to fill me in on the details.
Warning: right now, taking screenshots from an Android device requires installing the SDK. That doesn't make it as simple as pressing a button, but it's not the end of the world. If you've got a few minutes, and a quick connection with which to download the SDK, we'll show you how to take delicious Android screenshots of your own.
Step 1: Enable USB Debugging
On your Android phone (in this case, the G1), go to Settings, then Applications, and then Development. Check the checkbox for "USB debugging."
Step 2: Download the Android SDK
Download the SDK for your platform here. Google also has some great installation documentation if you get lost. You will need to make sure you have a current copy of the JDK. To use the SDK, you also need to download an IDE like Eclipse. After installing Eclipse, you can install the Eclipse plugin to connect Android and the IDE together, or just do a lot of stuff via the command line. Go ahead and plugin your Android handset into a USB port on your computer, if it is not plugged in already.
Step 3: Run DDMS
After configuring Eclipse or whatever IDE you use to work with Android, you need to open up the DDMS application from within the "tools" folder in the Android SDK's main folder. After DDMS launches, select your handset from the menu on the left (it should be the only device listed). You might see an error message, but the debug tool should be loaded. Then, click CTRL-S on your keyboard. This will bring up the "Device Screen Capture" interface. From here, a static image is captured from what is appearing on your handset. You can save the image (nicely defaulted as PNG) and then refresh to your heart's content to grab updated or different screenshots from your phone.
That's it! There is a caveat: Because your device has to be plugged into USB to be accessed by the SDK, the SD card cannot be used for taking photographs, playing music or downloading music from the Amazon.com MP3 store. You can take pictures of some of those screens but to actually download anything, take movies, or take a photo, you cannot have your device plugged into the computer and accessed by the SDK. Again, this is hardly as simple the iPhone's screenshot interface, but it is still very doable.
Someone has a Rooted Android phone and PaintJoy Pro installed? Because I would like to test it on my android tablet but it doesn't show up in Android Market. So could you please copy it with e.g. Titanium backup?

I went to install the droid x Eye wallpaper - I transferred to my SD, then tried to install using Astro File Manager.. I get the popup stating that "For security, your phone is set to block installation of applications not sourced in the Android Market".
Is this because Astro is not using super user privileges?
I have been looking around at a lot of different sites today, trying to gather information about installing the official Froyo build that was released today - but am having difficulty parsing through it all because of my specific phone setup. I have an unlocked Nexus One with the RA Recovery Image and Cyanogenmod 5.0.8-N1 installed. It seems that all the instructions that I have seen (and the files making the rounds out there) seem to be intended for stock phones. Can anyone point me to a set of instructions with the unlocked phone with a custom recovery image in mind, or am I completely missing something obvious?

So what can I do? And how can I do that? Does a factory reset reinstall the uninstalled stock applications?
