Is there a way to set it as the default program for sms? I tried to find some setting to set as such but have failed miserably so far. Every time I get a text I get a notification from handscent AND the stock messaging system which is slightly annoying

I switched from the default SMS to handscent SMS recently and I like everything but one little thing. When I get a text, two notifications appear in the top left corner. Once I answer the text, the handscent notification goes away, but the other mail notification will stay until I get another text message or clear all notifications. Is there a setting I have to change to only get one notification? Does this have anything to do with the fact that I had the popup message setting turned on so that every time I got a text a window popped up on my phone allowing me to answer the text much quicker than actually opening up Handscent messaging. Can anyone help me solve this problem? I just uninstalled it because of this reason, but if I can fix it, I would love to reinstall it and use it again.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI use Handcent as my default MMS viewer and it rocks. I receive video clips of my kids from my wife's phone, and when I click on them, it gives me the choice to play it with the default video player, or Act1 Video player which is installed. When I hit Act 1 video player, I get an error and the video does not play. But I stupidly had it selected when I hit the check box marked "use as default" when I wanted to use the default EVO player. Now when I click a video embedded in a text message, it launches into Act 1 and crashes!! How can I select the EVO video player as the default? I have searched EVERYWHERE in Handcent and in the EVO settings. So frustrating.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a Druid and a I'm wondering when I get a Google Calendar invite via G mail and accept it it pops up asking me what program to use. The list includes a browser and Calendar so I'm sure it's one of these but which is it for sure to set it to default? It also seems to ask a few times so it might need a certain combination of programs to work w/o a hitch. Maybe calendar first to update my calendar with the appointment/meeting then a browser to send a notification to the sender that I've accepted or? Anyone know for sure so I can set them to default properly so I don't have to randomly guess several times each time I get an invite?

I've edited the post to reflect my issues. Link to original thread: HTC Mail Memory Leak/Bug ("Phone Storage Getting Low") - Android Central Forums. "I have reason to believe that HTC Mail has a significant memory leak or bug which is causing all of the "Phone storage is getting low" messages. I've had the phone for 3 weeks as of this Thursday. My setup is 2 POP3 email accounts configured during the initial setup in HTC Mail. At around 110-115 megs it triggers the "phone storage low" message. The problem is that as far as I can tell, there's no way to reduce the file size of this HTC mail app once this process has started.
I've deleted every shred of email, all In-boxes, all sent, all trash all everything from every mail folder for every account - no reduction in app size. I trashed every shred of email from the system and the HTC mail app still hovered around 110megs (and the phone storage low indicators continuing). After researching the issue online and piecing 2+2 together I realized that the only solution is to wipe the phone. The issue there is that there are no guarantees that the issue wouldn't resurface again (actually it's quite likely).
Bottom line: HTC mail seems to have a very significant memory leak or bug that causes it to blow through its allocated memory at an alarming pace and there is very little that can be done to stop it once it's started. I would strongly recommend to those of you with the above issues to not use HTC mail after wiping the phone".
I installed Handcent because of the battery drain issue, and like it a lot, but now I cannot turn off the OEM Messages program. I tried going into the Settings>Applications>Manage Applications to turn it off, and it doesn't work. I also did the "Use Handcent as default SMS" when that box first pops up. I get two different ringtone notifications too. Although I switched the ringer to the same one both through the phone's settings and through Handcent's settings.

i just flashed my phone with FRESH last night. the only issue i have with it is my handscent sms app. it lags pretty good. it takes a good 4-5 seconds for the msg to pop up when its received and it takes way longer to open the app and load all my msgs.its not a huge nuisance, just bugs the shit out of me for some reason.anyone else have problems with handscent with FRESH??

View 4 Replies View RelatedI cant seem to find an option on my droid for sending a video clip with Handscent mms. when I browse though my gallery and select a clip, I dont have an option to send using Handscent. I have tried the setting under the video camera mode to use 30 second clips for sending mms and i have tried using the lower quality setting as well. I do see the option for sending using the stock messaging app, but I was wondering if I could use Handscent to send these videos..

Feature for feature both applications are pretty much even, chomp seems to have some features that handscent doesn't and vice versa, which leaves only a couple things left to compare, which is what my question is based on:In terms of looks, it is very subjective so i will just boil it down to clarity.Which UI is clearer, i.e has the higher resolution? However, it is not only the system default, but it even opens links I click on in the Android provided browser (sometimes I both open). On your computer, when you click links in your non-default browser it doesn't send the links to the default one, and it shouldn't on this OS, either. Using Dialer One, or Phone. And it gives me the option to "Use by default for this action".So, lets say I want to use Dialer One by default, but then I change my mind. View 3 Replies View RelatedFirst of all I have a Sprint Epic Touch 4G AKA Samsung Galaxy 2 S and not rooted,
I keep getting prompt to select which launcher(launcher or twlauncher) when I press the home button. I would select set as default and then select twlauncher. This would work fine and I could do what I want and the home button acts normally. BUT if I long press the home button to bring up task manager and a list of recent apps, it would break the default setting on twlauncher. I could go to setting and manage app and see that the default on twlauncher is now cleared even though I did not manually clear it. I tried checking set as default and then select launcher. It too won't stick AFTER I long press the home button.
Long story short, I downloaded several launchers from the market and none of them will stay set as default IF I long press the home button. It breaks the default every time and ask me to select the launcher to use when I press the home button. Now this would be great if I could just delete all the other launcher and have only one but I can't delete the stock launcher or twlauncher.
So the first time this happen, I was driving down the road using telenav when I see the prompt to select which launcher(something that I've never seen after using the phone for 2 weeks).
1. Start task manager and kill all active app and clear memory from RAM
2. Clear defaults from manage application....twlauncher
3. Click home button, click set as default and then launcher instead of twlauncher- still does not stick after long press home button.
4. Manage application...twlauncher CLEAR DATA (sure enough my neatly organized homepage and apps folder was reset to stock).
5. Pull battery
6. Cycle power on and off.
7. Gave up after 24 hours and factory reset the phone.
8. Went on my merry way and reinstall apps and customizing home page and apps pages and so on.
9. In hindsight, I should have long press home button every time I installed a new app to see which one will break the default.
10. Phone works fine for 24 hours and then it mysteriously acts up again. It ask me to choose which launcher again.
11. Went back to googling and tried the following which did not work:
a. clear media hub data and default
b. installed Sprint "clean" ID and then later deleting it.
c. installed go launcher and see if it will stick
d. installed launcher pro
e. installed home switcher
f. I don't have Qik or some child lock apps
g. search XDA and found about 15 threads and tried everything in those thread short of using Titanium to freeze one launcher.
Right now I just won't long press the home button to bring up task manager or recent apps and everything will work just fine. Minor annoyance but I guess I can live with it until the ICS update.
Interested in feedback on whether there is a better SMS program than Handcent?

It was started and it was preparing or looking for my bootloader then all of the a sudden it gave me an error saying something about my USB! I never touched my USB and all I see the the HTC logo. I haven't unplugged it from USB and haven't pulled the battery (don't want to kill it!) Any recommendations? I did as the program asked as well! I quit applications, turned off sleep/hibernate, etc etc!
