Oct 18, 2010the worst thing about the nexus one is that you power on the phone by simply pressing the power button, not by *holding* it. how can I just *check* if the phone is turned off? when i go to a movie, i just want to double-check it's off, so i short-press power button but then if it's already off then i would instead be turning it on and have to wait for the long boot-up process. i just can't "make sure it's off".

Jan 13, 2014my android phone's power button stopped working a few weeks ago. It wasn't a big problem, but a few days ago, the battery died. Now it is turned off and I can't turn it on. When I put it in charge, it just shows the charging screen. The phone is a Winmax W8000 (Winmax is Bangladeshi company. I'm from Bangladesh). It runs on Jellybean (4.1). It wasn't rooted. Oct 25, 2010When I receive a call on my Captivate, I have to use the home button to answer. There is a big pretty button on the left that has a green dot with a phone icon that you would think would answer it but it doesn't. Is there a setting somewhere, or a fix for this? Red button on the right with the phone icon hangs up, so you would think the green button would answer.

Feb 22, 2012Got a question regarding the lock screen. I'm on 2.3.5 on a Skyrocket. If I let the screen timeout and come back to it in a few minutes, when I power on, no screen lock (just a wallpaper to swipe away). If I use the power button to put it to sleep (not physically power down), the next time I use the power button to turn it on, I'm presented with the pattern unlock screen. Is there a way to use the power button to turn the phone off without being presented with the unlock pattern every time (I'd like it to do this after maybe 15-30 minutes, but not immediately as it seems to be doing it now).

Jul 23, 2010I just bought my captivate a few days ago and so far I love it. However it has started acting up more and more over the last couple days. I have my settings to "vibrate" whenever I click buttons. Sometimes after I click something the phone vibrates over and over again and I have noticed that the "home" button flashes when doing so. Eventually it stops but whatever application I am in crashes. Anyone know a fix for this problem or should I go exchange it for a new one?

The app switcher will keep coming up, apps will randomly close (as in the home button being pressed). Swype confirms that there's a held input at the home button. Sometimes the lockscreen won't unlock (screen won't register, probably because the home button phantom press is overriding other input). I've tried this without the charger, in and out of my hand. Using stock battery, OEM charger. Also tried on official Verizon stock 2.2, cyanogenmod, fourth wave, and virtuous.

Mar 15, 2010Apparently rooting and using custom ROMs hasn't solved this issue. Before I rooted my phone I was having the issue that, despite checking the "Use by default for this action" box, my phone just plain refused to save what homescreen app to go to when I tap the "Home" button.I've tried clearing the cache. I've done factory resets and data wipes (although I did restore "all apps with data" with Titanium Backup). I've tried using the Home Switcher app. Nothing works.Right now my phone is running the current version of BB, ChevyNo1's 1.0Ghz 5 slot update.zip for OC, and am using AdamZ's Smoked glass theme. I want to use the "HelixLauncher" app as my default homescreen, but it's rather obnoxious having to constantly select it when I hit the home button (it'll save my default action for a few clicks, and then I'll have to set it again).

Android :: How To Control Activity Flow - Back Button Versus Home Button
Sep 2, 2010I have 3 activities in my app: Activity1 -> Activity2 -> Activity3. Inside Activity3, if the user presses Back, I would like to return to Activity2. In Activity3's onPause event, I added a finish() statement. That's probably not even necessary, but I wanted to make sure this Activity gets cleaned up. This works fine.
However, while in Activity3, if the user presses Home or starts a new app (through notification bar or some other means), I want both Activity3 and Activity2 to finish. If the user returns to this app, he should resume with Activity1.
I have figured out how to do one or the other, but I can't figure out how to handle both cases, if it's even possible. Can I trap the "Back" button in Activity3 and send a message back to Activity2 telling it not to finish()? It seems like the Activities follow the same lifecycle flow (Pause, Stop) regardless of what you do to send them to the background. Just to answer the question of why I want this behavior, imagine that Activity1 is a login screen, Activity2 is a selection screen, and Activity3 is a content screen. If I press Back from the content page, I want to be able to make a new selection. If I exit via any other means (Home, notification bar), I want the user to be "logged out".

May 19, 2010I have been working on a replacement for the stock Car Home app for a bit, and I am completely stumped on how to override the Home button so that my app will be brought back to the foreground whenever the phone is docked. This is the way that Car Home works, so there must be a way. It seems that BroadcastReceivers won't work, because the intent that is broadcast whenever the Home button is pressed will still cause the default homescreen app to launch; I cannot prevent it. I can override the Home button from within my app, but that does me no good since this needs to work when the user is outside my app. Car Home also does not do anything weird like set itself as the default homescreen app while it's running (I checked the logcat to make sure).
I've been really beating my head against the wall on this. Does anyone have any ideas, or can you at least point me in the right direction?

Nov 2, 2010I like being able to wake the phone to view the lock screen using the home button at the bottom of the phone, but is there any way to make it so that a second click of that button, or a click of one of the others down there, will make it sleep again? Having to press the power button up top is just an inconvenience.

- home button is not working
- call button is not working unless you're into the contacts application (doesn't work from home page)
- Astrid application has lost all of the TODO tasks.

Sep 14, 2010This only happens when running certain apps, specifically Facebook and jetflicks (and some others that I can't name off the top of my head) but when I press the home button it goes to the last screen of my home setup. I run stock froyo and sense, and I keep up with as many updates as possible. Is there a patch for this that anyone knows of?

Jan 4, 2010On pressing the back button, I'd like my application to go into the stopped state, rather than the destroyed state. In the Android docs it states: not all activities have the behavior that they are destroyed when BACK is pressed. When the user starts playing music in the Music application and then presses BACK, the application overrides the normal back behavior, preventing the player activity from being destroyed, and continues playing music, even though its activity is no longer visible
How do I replicate this functionality in my own application? I think there must be three possibilities.
1) Capture the back button press (as below) and then call whatever method(s) the home button calls...........
