HTC EVO 4G :: Tethering Connection - Increasing Speeds?
Jul 16, 2010It seems that when I'm tethering my connection is not very strong at all. I believe its only about 6kbs. Anyway to increase this?

HTC EVO 4G :: Tethering At 4g Speeds?
Oct 19, 2010So I just canceled my internet at my house after a frustrating experience with the cable company... so now I'm exclusively relying on the Evo for internet. My question is, is there any way to tether at 4g speeds? Either wired or wireless? I think I've read that the wireless tether app has not really been coded for 4g so the speeds do not come even close to typical 4g speeds. I also would rather avoid pdanet and easy tether because I don't want to pay in order to get full access. I've done some research in the matter but still have things kinda muddy in my mind.

Jun 29, 2010I Tether using the easytether app from the market. I at times I get download speeds of 19.00kb-20.00kb, but at times I some how get 100.00kb-400.00kb. Why do I get the higher speed only for a few hours on random days of the week? And Is there a way I could speed up tethering so I can get at least 100.00kb download speed most of the time.

Oct 5, 2010I've noticed that lately, my download speeds on my rooted Droid (running BB 0.5 most recently, though this "problem" occurred with BB 0.4 and LFY 1.6 as well) have not been stellar, though my upload speeds seem fine:
Could this be caused by the baseband? Im running C_01.43.01P. Prior to that, I was running (I think) 3E, which came with the phone, and worked fine with BB 0.4 but when the updated one came out I updated it since, hey, it's newer right? Anyway, (1) is this certainly the problem? and (2) if I choose to, how can I safely roll back to the 3E baseband?

Oct 9, 2010I just got an Ally and so far am happy with it. I have a hunting club where I only get cell phone service, no internet connection, so I downloaded Easytether and am actually using it right now and it works great. My question is, I only get service in one of the rooms to use it and would like to use it in the living room. Is there anyway to do this? Do they make a longer usb/ally charger so I could leave my phone in the room and take the computer in the living room? It doesn't seem like easytether offers bluetooth. I tried bluetooth on pdanet but cannot get it to work b/c it's too confusing for me. I can get my device pair and connected but it only connects for media/phone and won't connect when I try to dial up from computer. Ok that's long enough and confusing enough for yall.

Nov 17, 2010I've just noticed that I no longer get a notification of "Charge Only" in the top bar when I plug my HTC in to my PC via the USB cable!
I've gone into the settings for "Connect to PC" and it doesn't matter what I select, I still cant connect to use "HTC Sync" or "Disk drive" and yet the orange light comes on and the battery indicator says it IS charging!
I used to have it set to charge only and if I wanted to sync or copy to the SD card, I'd just drag down the top bar that lists widget locker and my mobile internet usage and I could select it and choose what I wanted to do - only now there is nothing there to select!
I've today replaced the trial power widget with the "Widgetsoid switcher" - could that have something to do with it? - I've tried adding USB connection and USB tethering and they dont seem to work either!
Motorola Droid :: WiFi Tethering / No Steady Internet Connection
May 22, 2010I've had WiFi tethering for awhile now, but I have never got it to work properly. The problem is that I will have, say, my laptop, or any device for that matter, connected to my Droid and I am able to maintain a steady internet connection for about a minute. After that, the tethering application reports a download speed of 0.0kbps. If I disconnect my laptop (or other device) and reconnect it, it'll start to work again, but only for about another minute. Any ideas as to why this is happening?

May 31, 2010anyone else having this problem? using 2.1 under caulkin's kernel. it seems like I can kind of overload the phone doing too much and the mobile network connection on my phone will disappear completely. this is while downloading something that may download too fast, sometimes it happens loading .GIF images too. I'll have to restart the phone to get the internet back. this happens no matter if I'm using wireless, USB or bluetooth tethering.

May 6, 2010I have a rooted 2.1, it's been working perfectly since I rooted and updated and all.I love how fast and responsive everything is now.BUT one of the main reasons I rooted was so that I could take advantage of the wifi tethering.It works sometimes.sometimes great.BUT if I try to go to facebook.it'll work well sometimes, then others it won't even load the page.then eventually just kills my connection. gmail seems to have the same reaction.works sometimes, other times, nothing. i dont seem to have much of a problem surfing other sites.HOWEVER if i try to download anything over like 4MB big...my connection just gets killed all together, and nothing works. a friend of mine sent me his bands new demos...the zip file is like 35MB.it only gets a little ways before just dropping down to 0.0kbs and then it just sits there, not loading crap. I can re start the connection, and it will start downloading again, but after about 30 or 40 seconds.the connection gets killed again. Same goes for a torrent...if I try to download a torrent, it'll work and get pretty fast, up to 190kbs.but after just under a minute, connection killed. why is this? does verizon kill data connections that come in to fast or something? i have a friend who tethers with at&t with his iphone, he got the demos downloaded in like 12 min on his iphone tethering app. do i need to do some tweaking to my phone so I can download? im not trying to go crazy, but I'd like to atleast be able to get large attachments and such.

The ipv6-test gives 10/10 (perfect score) for IPv6 readiness for your phone, and you can access e.g. [URL] ..... using the phone itself
You want to tether to a PC using USB
Device is rooted
Is there a way to give the PC access to the phone's IPv6 internet connection?
I'm assuming that we can't give the PC a public IPv6 address, because the phone is probably only allotted one IPv6 address from the carrier; plus they might treat your plan differently or something if you try to claim another IP address (it's an unnecessary complexity)
So what we actually need to do is, to create a NAT IPv6 space on the device, just like we do for IPv4 when we tether, and provision an IP to the PC that way. Then we have to do something for DNS; I guess we can use OpenDNS's AAAA servers.
Do any of the existing tethering methods support this at all, or is this something I'd have to do manually? Also, is it possible even in theory on Android 2.3, or is it known that a newer version of Android will enable it?

Based on what I read about the reason for the extra $10.00 fee for premium service, I went ahead and purchased the phone, even though I don't have access to 4G at this time or maybe never have I have been checking my 3G speeds with Speedtest.n##. I have never used a phone with wireless data, so I was not just sure what to expect. I live in Tulsa, OK and this morning I went for a drive around the city and took speed reading at various points. My 3G results ranged from 0.36 to 1.93 Mbps down and 0.36 up. I decided to stop in at a local T-Mobile store and run a test there and compare it with a T-Mobile phone. It just so happened that a friend was there with his Google N1. So, we both ran the speed test on the same server. The best I could get was 1.93 Mbps and he got 3.95Mbps down. This got me to wondering if these speeds are typical for Sprint and why pay the extra $10.00 per month for a phone that was billed as providing an enhanced wireless experience. It may be enhanced, but it sure is a slow experience. By the way, at home my Wi-Fi speeds are 10.08 down and 3.00 up. Now, I know that speed varies by area and that Sprint Tulsa may just be a poor service area. Of course, all of this in is anecdotal. But, I wonder how this compares to your real time experiences. Please don't flame me, I am total new to cell phones with data plans.

Scottsdale AZ: 1.08Mbps Down, .28Mps Up
Flagstaff AZ: .47Mbps Down, .81Mbps Up (279 ping)
Las Vegas, NV: .49Mbps Down, .87Mbps Up (139 ping)
Albuquerque, NM: .51Mbps Down, .66Mbps Up(163 ping)
San Fran, CA: .57 Down, .89 Up
Truth be told, i expected at least twice the DL speeds (at least one megabit/s). Am I dealing with a weak network here, or should i be looking inward at a phone issue?
HTC Desire :: Increasing Speaker Volume?
Oct 28, 2010I use my Desire in the car quite a bit, and as I don't have a bluetooth hands free kit, my old one got smashed in the boot when I dropped a big tool box on it. Dumb ass, I'm using the inbuilt speaker on the phone. While for the most part, this is fine, I would like to increase the volume slightly. Obviously not enough to blow the speaker. I know there's an app/mod for the headphones volume, but what about the speakers volume? Anyway of increasing that?

Jun 11, 2010I had my HTC EVO 4g for a week now and loving it. I always make sure I have a sufficient enough of space on my my phone's memory.. It frustrates me knowing that the application with the most database size is the contacts storage! (13.54mb ) What really bothers me, it gradually increases by the day.. When I first got the phone it was 9mb.. and as the we days go by it would increase. I don't even add any new contacts. What's the root of the problem?! Should i disable syncing facebook / gmail?
