The last couple times I have tried to download an app from the market, it gets stuck on starting download no matter how long I wait. Internet browsing still works though.

I got to deleting a bunch of Spring stock apps using Titanium backup and now my marketplace won't download apps. :/ I was reading somewhere that Google talk might be the culprit (i did remove that)?

I can browse the internet fine, i can use any app that uses the internet like facebook, youtube, etc. I can even browse the android market fine. Its just stuck at "starting download". I really dont want to reset my phone.
I've tryed:
- restarting
- Turning off and on data connections ( both 3g and wifi )
- Clearing any google cache
- google talk
- deleting apps ( if its a space issue )
- canceling and restarting downloads
- have it attempt to download for 24+ hours
None of these worked. it seems reseting the phone is the last option. I have the Sony Xperia X10. Has anyone with that phone resolved the issue? Is it even the phone that's causing the issue? maybe the market itself is buggy.

I got my new Galaxy S one month back. I have no problems with any other functionality but Android Market. I can browse apps, but when I click install each get stuck at "Starting download..." screen, and never starts or fails. I had kept it for 3 days and still the same. Market / Google Apps / Download Manager clear cache / data does not help even. Phone restart also does not help.So far the solution is do a factory reset and lose all current apps, then install 5 to 6 apps again. Then the same story begins. No more apps can be downloaded. Stuck @ "Starting download..."."Samsung Apps" application works fine.

Now I know this has been brought up before and I've followed the advice: tried turning on Google Talk, rebooting etc. In fact I can rarely get GT to sign in either but even when I do, it makes no difference to the apps I'm trying to download. When I first got the phone, I managed to download a couple of apps without problems but now I can't. Everything gets stuck on 'starting download' whatever I do. I'm trying it on a wireless network as it's rare I can get 3GS up.

I know this problem has been covered ad nauseum here on the forums, but I'm having a trio of problems on my Droid1, and I'm betting that they're related:
- Market freezes download
- Low on space notification (almost 19MB free)
- Google Talk won't load on my phone
I'm running the SimplyStunning 4.8 ROM. I reflashed the ROM last week and it seemed to resolve the problem for a while, but now it's come back.

I have had one of those "Starting download" errors in the market for almost 3 months now (!) and I'm starting to get tired of it.
I'm using a Desire with android 2.2. My problem is this: I can download from satellite network, but not via Wifi at home. However, it seems to be a 1% chance (or close to that) of successful download using the Wifi.
I have logged in and out of Talk several times, did a couple of factory resets, formatted the SD card, cleared cache from HTC checkin service, market, google talk and downloader (if thats what its called in english). I tried to set the network as only WCDMA, only GSM and both auto, still no results. Everything else seems to work using the Wifi at home, except market. I called HTC for some help, and the only thing I got to know was that it wasn't my mobile operator, or other settings on my phone that caused this problem, and they also thougt it might be the network at home, which I too thought before talking to them. So I did a little research about that, and tried to open port 5228, even though that seemed weird, as it sometimes worked downloading. I also read about the change from googlemail.com to gmail.com, but I never had a "googlemail.com" address, so I hope this isnt the problem. Now HTC wants me to tell them if I can fix this, and how I did, so they probably have no clue either:S
I have also tried other things, which I don't remember right now, but if anyone can list up something to try, I'll see if I have done it or not.

I'm rooted and just flashed Super Clean rom from Rom Manager. When I go to update current apps or download new ones, it says "Starting download..." and never stops! After looking this problem up and reading other people's posts who have had similar problems, I've tried clearing all cache and data related to any Google-based app. I've done multiple nandroid backups over the past few weeks and have tried restoring back to them. I've tried factory data reset both from Settings-->Privacy and also from recovery mode in CWM. I'm out of ideas.

I posted this last night in the regular Sprint HTC forum, but it may be more root related and I thought those of you that frequent this forum may be better at coming up with the fix. Had to RUU back to 1.5, then re-rooted and restored back to a nandroid of ZenROM. Market has always worked fine, until after this process yesterday.I am able to search the market, it says the app will download, but never does. All my contacts are there, web works, email works, I have rebooted, restored to a different Nandroid still hangs at starting download. Googling turns up a few responses regarding British users having their gmail adresses wrong "googlemail" vs "gmail" but that isn't the issue here. One possibility.when I RUU'd back to 1.5, I MAY have accidently typed the gmail address incorrectly...(I have two that are similar except for one digit) But when I restored back to the ROM I'm using, it shows the correct address in the accounts and sync area. This is the only thing I can think of.

Is this possible? I have a free and a paid version of an application. From the FREE version I want to provide the ability to for the user to "PURCHASE" the paid version. I want to make it as simple as possible. I am thinking of Starting the market app and passing the identification of the PAID so that the Market app will take them right there. I am trying to make it as easy as posible. No searching etc. No I have no intent of doing the purchasing from within my app. I want to have them press [Get Paid Now] button and then I start the Market app which would then take them to my Paid Application in the store.

While opening my application from application launcher. Sometimes I am getting blank screen for long time (almost 3 min). If I perform some key events then I am getting ANR. Log is as follows.
I/ActivityManager( 57): Starting activity: Intent {
action=android.intent.action.MAIN categories ={android.intent.category.LAUNCHER} flags=0x10200000 comp={com.test/com.test.MyScreen} }
E/JavaBinder( 57): !!! FAILED BINDER TRANSACTION !!!
After this I am getting activity launch timeout and Idle timeout. Is there any design issue with my activity or problem with android environment.

I have a call blocking application. It has 3 files:
1) class BlockMyCall extends BroadcastReceiver
2) class SimpleClass1 extends Service
3) PhoneBlock extends Activity
I start "PhoneBlock " Activity to call Service "SimpleClass1 ", which eventually calls "BlockMyCall" intended to block outbound calls (by setting result to "null").
I want to know if I can run the class1 from service without starting activity. If so , how?

I have created the meat and guts of my application but I want to add a different activity that will be the starting point (sort of a log-in screen).
Couple questions:
1) I have a fairly decent handle on how to switch between activities (based on this article: http://www.linux-mag.com/id/7498) but I'm not sure how to go about creating a new one (with eclipse).
2) once I have a new activity created, how can I set it as the default activity of my application? I presume I could just change the name of the classes...but is there a more elegant way to handle that (maybe within the AndroidManifest.xml)?

I am using 2.3.4 and facing critical memory outage (in my galaxy S plus), reason being most of those applications I install keep on running in the background, when i kill them using some (Task Killer) they automatically kicks off and restart themselves again.
Is there anything like services (the way we have in windows) which i need to stop to restrict them to run automatically and at startups. I am new to Android.

I have a Service which tracks the location of the user. Currently, the Service boots when the application starts and stops when the application terminates. Unfortunately, if users keep the application in the background, the Service never stops and drains battery.
I would like the Service to stop when my application is not in the foreground. I was hoping the Application class would let me Override onPause and onResume handlers, but it does not have them.
