HTC EVO 4G :: SD Card Loading Times
Aug 18, 2010
I think this issue is correlated directly to the SD card that comes with our phone... but it seems to be quite slow. I say this, because I notice quite often that my music has short to medium pauses between tracks (off the SD), and if I do anything else while it's playing back, like say.... downloading something through the browser (I use Dolphin, everything is set to save onto SD as well as the cache) my music will skip and jump mid-playback. It's been like this since I got it, and it's been getting worse the more stuff I put onto it. I know that it's normal for any storage drive's write/read speeds to drop proportionately as the free space is taken up by data, but it's starting to become an issue with what I would consider 'normal' usage. The SD card we got with the phone is only a Class 2, but I've yet to have these kinds of problems with any other class 2 cards. Should I get a Class 4 or 6 and see if it fixes the problem? (money isn't really an issue, I just don't want to be paying $115 for an SD card. Hell, I could get a 500gb HDD for my computer at that price!)

Is is possible to load/install apps by simply putting the APK file on a SD Card?
I'm trying to figure out a way to preinstall apps (prior to handing them out i mean) in a large corporate environment without the need of going though Marketyplace.
I know I can point the device to an APK file on the web and do an install that way, but I'm looking for a way to preinstall the app in a more expedited way. Ideally, writing this onto SD and poping in the Card into each device is ideal in our setup. Is this possible? Any suggestions?

I would like my users to develop their own routines for image manipulation. Lets presume that a third party has written a class which implements one of my interfaces; public abstract class PixelBinaryFilter extends BinaryFilter{protected abstract int generatePixel(int p1, int p2);}

I just picked up a new 32 GB micro SD card for my infuse and at first I had trouble getting anything to read it, but it turned out to be something with the directories (specifically my mp3 player).
But now half of my apps won't get past the "loading" status and I imagine it's because some of the data is on the old SD card. They do load just fine when I have that in. I tried copying everything over to the new card, then tried formatting the card and copying everything over again and no luck. If I re-download one of those apps, it seems to keep my settings. I wouldn't mind re-downloading them all except that I can't even see the names of the apps on the home screen (just says loading) and I can't remember everything.

How to load simple html file present in sd mmc card from web browser. It is mentioned in the net that due to security reasons this is not allowed. Is there any way to access the file from sdcard? Tried modifying private String homeUrl =
"file:///sdcard/index.html";

My question is can you load the digital copy movies that come with dvds onto windows media player on your pc then copy onto your sd card? Is it mp4 format or an unsupported file type? Or are the digital copies strictly for itunes and psp?

I want to display a fancy 'loading' image at my app's startup time.
The problem: my startup code is mostly GUI related, hence needs to run on UI thread.
Is there a way to do both - that is run UI-related code on UI thread while an image is displayed to the user?

Well I've been using a class 6 microSDHC card, and it seems like the "Loading SD card..." time that appears when doing such things as opening albums to view pictures is still the same - several seconds. That leads me to assume that this sd loading time has a lot to do with the properties of the device itself (i.e. processing power, software efficiency).
With that said, will we ever see a reduced "Loading SD card..." time in the future? Perhaps from the coming Android 2.1 update? Do you custom ROM/Gumbo kernal users also have a several-second "Loading SD card..." time even with a class 6 sd card?

I've looked through the documentation and I can't seem to figure out how to have the screen blured/greyed when I select an activity that may take a while to load.
This seems to be an Android standard (both the Camera app and the Camcorder app do it when first selected), but I don't see any documentation on it. I even tried looking through the source of these apps on git, but couldn't seem to find it.

my wife evo rooted w/ s-off, its been rebooting alot today. she's on baked snacks 1.8. I just moved her files to the sdcard and uninstalled the hack adobe player for hulu and put the original on. I then rebooted the phone and now it shows the HTC EVO white screen, it then vibrates quickly 5 times, go to a black screen and w/ a green flash. I then went into recovery and clear the data, reboot but still 5 vibrate and nothing. I tried going into recovery again to do a nandroid, but it doesn't go into there either.

Over the last couple of days my EVO has been changing time 1 hour ahead, then back, then ahead. I thought at first it was because of the time change coming 11/07, but we are setting clocks back, not forward.

This in regards to its vibration function. due to the rather soft tone of its sound (to me at least) sometimes when my phone is ringing from a message, i tend to NOT notice that a message comes in. so i use vibration , but the thing with hand cent vibration is the vibration is a one time thing only. a message comes in, it vibrates once, and thats it.. but the ring tone goes on and on.. fiddling with the vibration settings in hand cent did not help. what i want to do is make my desire vibrate a lot more times than just
once.. is this possible?

Can anyone find the (real) NY Times app? Or how about an app called Free Caddie? I received an OTA update on my LG Ally last night, these apps wouldn't work after the update, and I can't find either in the market.

just downloaded this yesterday and it really has potential! powered by the golf channel, this thing will search for deals for you. just plug in the state, day you want to play, # of golfers, and the kind of discount you want and it'll find it for you. this app is still young so i think it has lots of potential. only has south jersey for right now.

When using the Google Maps even in car mode the screen still times out. Best I can do is set the timeout for 30 minutes but I do not like that solution, often it takes me longer then that to get where im going and i dont want to have to switch the phone back on in the middle of driving. I have used HTC phones for years and the screen timeout always did not apply when using GPS. Also, is there any way to get the map to rotate to the direction of travel like tomtom and garmin do?

I am finding myself flashing my phone several times a day. Tweaking roms moving ring tones or other things that one rom may not have. I am wondering am I going to burn out my phone doing this???? LOL I just can't settle on the perfect combination. The most consistent ROM for me yet has been Evil Eris 3.0 but the GPS doesn't work. I loved White Widow but a day after install it started lagging badly. I want KaosFroyo but I have to have a working camera. And my favorite keyboard is the HTC_IME_mod!!!! And all the roms don't have this one.

For some reason, whenever I receive a message it says the message arrived an hour earlier, screwing up the order that the messages are listed in. How do I fix this? I bought the phone in the UK and am using it in the U.S., so I had to change the time (although I had to set the time zone to central time, while I live in NY, as the phone doesn't account for daylight savings or something...)

Does anyone know what happened to the New York Times app? It hasn't updated a story since December 1st. The app no longer appears in the market place and before I uninstalled the app, it no longer showed up under "downloads" within the market place app.

I can't seem to find the answer so it probably is a no. Is there anyway to keep ABC default at all times? I use the phone keypad and it kinda gets annoying when it puts itself on XT9 all the time and I have to turn it off before I type.

I know there are apps that can set the ringer to mute during certain times of the day. However, I am wondering if there is an application that will allow me to tell the phone to not ring for the next hour (or any set amount of time). The problem is that periodically I will go to an unscheduled event in when I want to mute the phone, but inevitably forget to unmute later. I'd like to quickly choose to mute for an hour and then it automatically unmutes after an hour...

I figure at this point everyone that hasn't got root yet need as many tips as possible and will try just about anything, so here is another tip. I've got into ADB 3 times (initial root, remove apps & install WirelessN), and each of them was on my first try after rebooting my computer. I'm using the pny sd card(for me it's the 4gb class 4 but 2gb works great as well), which seems to have been by far the most successful card, also I have SDK installed as my driver. The method I used was pretty standard, no clicking in & out the sd card, I just left it in the whole time, I didn't even use loop.bat. I know it's annoying to restart your computer after each attempt, but it worked for me.

I've searched the list and the documentation but have not found anything that tells you how to tell how many times a song has played. Is there something in the OS that provides that information or would it need to be done in the individual application?
