HTC EVO 4G :: People App

One of my contacts in the People app exhibits a strange behavior.
When I open the People app up and press the users photo, I'll get the normal icons like Call, View contact, text, email. But for this single user I also get another call icon. If I press this second call icon I get the 'Complete action using' dialog with apps listed.
Selecting random apps to use to open does nothing more than open the app.
I've tried deleting the contact and re-adding it and the second phone icon continues to appear. Sometimes it doesn't though.
There is nothing out of the ordinary with this contact either. Just a phone number, email address, and picture.

I have an app where I want to list all phone numbers and the associated contact name.I see that there is the Contacts.People table for the purpose of getting all phone numbers and that there is a PERSON_ID to allow me to lookup the contact in Contacts.People.Great.Now I see that all the columns I want are already joined to the Contacts.People.Phones table. But that seems lucky in this case.How could I do the equivalent of the above statement in general if the implementer of the content provider hadn't been so nice as to join for me?

I have all of my contacts linked to their respective facebook accounts, but the pictures that show up when I go to my People never update with the facebook pictures, they have stayed the same since the day I linked the two regardless of how many times the person has changed their default picture since then. Is there any way for me to change this so the pictures in my People update with facebook? Since they are linked I assume they should be able to do this.

My phone has been acting up lately...Force closing every ten minutes or so for the past couple days, and I've been able to deal with it; however, one thing that is bugging the hell out of me is that I can't edit my contacts without it force closing on me. Does anyone know where I can get the People app so that when I uninstall it, I won't lose it forever? I know I'm not supposed to uninstall it, but I don't really know what else to do.

I've got a friend with an Evo, and both the Sprint store and his home show to be in a 4G service area. Home is supposed to have the 'best' coverage, and the Sprint store is supposed to have 'good' coverage.Neither location has ANY usable 4G coverage on the Evo. It cuts in and out with barely any signal at all, confuses the phone and never gets data easily until you turn off 4G. BTW the 4G adapters for computers work in both locations, albeit with low signals. The Evo, unusable.My friend went to Evo training and asked about the non-existent 4G coverage. The trainer said that all they can say is 'we can't guarantee 4G, 3G or 2G coverage.' WOW, that sounds just like AT&T when I had the iPhone 3G.

Transfering 4 AT&T numbers to sprint and getting 4 EVOs is a pain! It's been over 2 and a half hours waiting for the AT&T service to go down so I can power up my evo. I bet most of you guys already are enjoying your EVOs?How many people have not been able to get service for their EVOs yet?

On the Nexus One and I guess non-SenseUI, I could change how my contacts were sorted, "last, first" or "first last". On the EVO, I can't seem to do that. But on Favorites in the 9x grid, it sorts them "first last".

I recently flashed my Hero to have SenseHero 2.2. Before that, I had a stock Orange Hero on Android 1.5.
In my phonebook, by that I mean the People app, I used to only show my Phone contacts and hide the SIM contacts.
Since I've upgraded, the only options I have in the View option in People is Google or Phone. But my SIM contacts are also shown, and I want to hide them.

I use my gmail contact list on my phone. Ever since in synced up with gmail I have my contacts. If i use the "search people" icon I see all my contacts. If I use the "People" icon. I only have a fraction of my contacts in the list. What is the difference between the two sets?

Does anyone else find that certain contacts in Gmail do not appear on Andriod in the People app?I have some contacts which are in 'My Contacts' on gmail but try as I might I can't seem to get them to appear on the phone. One of the missing contacts only appeared after selecting 'Show auto gmail contacts' and when I unchecked this option the contact still appears on the phone.This problem also manifests itself when pulling in gmail contacts to Mozilla Thunderbird on the PC so presumably there is gmail setting I have missed - could this be 'display random contacts'

Is this a common troubleshooting step for a lot of Android users or do you go right to the factory reset?
I do tech support for a carrier and along with the calls I get daily from frustrated Android users and some of the threads that I read in various forums, it just seems like this isn't a widely known or used option. Personally, before I have someone do a factory reset, I always have them put in in safe mode. Only once has the original issue they called about reoccured while in safe mode, so out a replacement went. Just seems so much easier to do a little self troubleshooting rather than calling up a carrier or ranting on a message board about how bad or faulty a device is. I'd hazard to guess that 95%+ of the issues these devices run into is due to end-user error.

my new employer gave me an evo 4g. i synced it with my google account. had a very organized list of contacts, with groups... it created dups even 3 or 4 copies of each contact... i immediately went to Phone settings > applications > manage applications and removed data... it appears my "People" contacts list and groups are no longer duped...
However... on the home screen, when i click on "phone" above the dialpad, there is a list of my contacts... it's duplicated, but i think it's somehow cached... how do i clear this in application data so it reads from my actual synced people list (which is still no longer duped; only unique entries)?
It's weird why it populates duplicates... John Smith will appear twice.. example

I'm not sure why some are dashed and some aren't.. referred back to my google contacts.. they all have dashes... is evo creating the duplicate with non-dash? ugh... so confusing.

I have had my phone since June 14th and today noticed my camera lens is cracked. It's a very small crack that goes right across the middle and you have to look hard to see it. Doesn't seem to impact image quality as far as I can tell. It has never been dropped so I'm not sure how it happened. I don't use a case but I'm very careful with my phone. Not sure why HTC made the EVO with a raised camera lens, anytime you set it down that�s the piece that makes contact with whatever you put it on.

When I click on the number the dialer opens.
I don't want to call the person but add them to my list.

I would search to see if this was already asked... but I don't even know how to word it, or what to call it, so I must just ask.
On my Droid Incredible, if I launch the People app to view my contacts and hold the Menu button while viewing the main contacts list, a keyboard will pop up. Type on the keyboard, and the typed letters appear in a smokey overlay over your contacts... but it doesn't do anything.
Does anyone know what this does? Without rebooting my phone, I cannot get rid of the *banner* I guess you'd call it. I've done this twice-- once on accident (thought the keyboard would allow me to search contacts), and once just now trying to figure it out!

in my "People" list, I have several individuals that have multiple phone numbers - work landline, home landline, work cellphone, personal cellphone, etc. When I tap on such an individual in People, I'm presented with a list that looks like this:
Call home
[home number]
Call mobile
[mobile number]
Send message
[home number]
Send message
[mobile number]
.
.
.
I would like to be able to remove the "Send message" option for all numbers except for their personal cellphone number. It obviously makes no sense to try and send a text message to a landline, and I certainly want to avoid texting to a work cellphone.

I have a new htc desire and I want to:
1. Understand the difference between Contacts and People in the phone? What I mean by that is under the list of programs there is one called " People " if i click that I see I can add people with ( phone, email and birthdate )Yet I also see on my 2nd screen a widget called " Favourites " which says Add contacts and when I hit add contacts it already has a list of names and emails that I totally dont recall adding but I do recognize. I believe it pulled them from my gmail account, So i have deleted them in gmail as I dont need them, but is there a way to delete them all in one go in the phone?
2. What is the best way to add peoples phone numbers in the htc desire? what steps should I take

I can't get bettercut to launch the People app or the Camera. It says "This program is no longer installed on your device." I'm using a Droid Eris, and can't quite figure it out, although all other programs work fine.

I understand that Android Marketplace is not available on the internet, just from the phone.I would, however, like to point people to my application if possible. If the person receives their emails on the G1, what type of link can I give so that clicking on it will take them to the app in the Android Marketplace?

Im seeing quite better scores with vanilla based roms which I have switched back and forth from (CM6, Jager, etc); understandable. However my main gripe with all those is that they dont offer the great UI for the HTC camera and a way to integrate Facebook contacts with your address book like the HTC People app. Has anyone found something that works very similiar to it so I can rid myself of sense forever .

Got a Desire last week, and it's my first smartphone so am on a bit of a learning curve, but the phone does rock.
Anyway, I'm a little confused with regards to the People Widget.
I have it configured on one of my home screens and its linked to my Gmail contacts account. I have set my favourites (grouped as 'Starred in Android')
and synched the favourites to go to that group when you first set it up.
Now, the phone also has 3 duplicate contacts in the list - all of the duplicates look like they've come from Facebook, but I can't get rid of them from the list.
At first I thought that the phone was trying to synch my gmail contacts with my facebook contacts, but then it hasn't done all of my Facebook contacts that match the contacts in my Gmail.
I'm a bit confused as to how they've got in there.
I've tried resysnching Gmail and Facebook, removed the People widget and re-added it, I've checked everything in my Gmail contacts but can't see anything un-toward, I've tried having background data sync enabled and disabled whilst trying to remove these to no avail.
I still can't seem to remove these 3 duplicate entries.

I've had my HTC Hero for a couple of months and finally think I've got to grips with the majority of its features. One of the things I really liked when I originally set it up was the fact that my contacts in People would sync up with anyone it recognised as having a facebook account and therefore provided their profile picture and birthday info etc. However, a couple of weeks ago all these pictures suddenly disappeared and I've no idea why - I can still get onto facebook fine and my contacts all seem as they were except they're all pictureless and it's really starting to annoy me. Has anyone else experienced this or is there any setting I'm missing or something I've done wrong??
On a completely unrelated note (although I may well post this seperately), I've recenly downloaded Handcent SMS from the market as I'd read that this was a good alternative to the original messaging application, but I don't know how to set this as my default SMS app and to get rid of the original off my home screen.

I can't seem to figure out how, but I recently met this girl, and we've been talking on the phone in the evening, and sometimes, I'll hear her voice coming from my pocket, and I'll dig my phone out and she'd be (at 2 am mind you) on the other end laughing at my horrible singing or whatever I was doing in the car. I called her 6 times yesterday from my pocket! Phone is locled and everything, 3 days ago, it was my mother. It's always the last person that called.so I can't understand how a locked phone is calling people like this!
