I am really psyched about going from a Treo Pro to an Evo. I realize this is probably asked alot, but after a number of searches, I still cant find what I am looking for. And yes, I am an android n00b.First of all i LOVE this freaking phone. Yesterday (the day I got it) was perhaps the single worst performance I've ever had at work for a single day.I am in THAT much in love.But there's one persistent problem.When I bought the phone at a corporate store, the CSR tried 5 times to sync my contacts from my old samsung omnia.Every time, the incredible said that the sync was successful but the contacts never showed up.My only recourse is to manually reprogram all my contacts.I'm in the "b"s now and I have work at 6 AM.I know I can sync my winmo contacts to gmail, but I don't use gmail primarily and would like my phone contacts to stay phone contacts.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently switched from the Touch Pro 2 with a 6.5.3 ROM to the Moment. I grew tired of the instability of WinMo and decided to jump ship to Android with a hard keyboard, so the Moment was my choice. I do miss the hardware of the TP2, but there are some software features I wish I still had, which are from HTC mainly, but maybe there are some 3rd party (preferably free) that will get me by until I can get the Supersonic (I know, no keyboard, but the bigger screen fixes that ).
1. Panoramic camera mode mainly, but also more camera features. seems bare (and slow!) with the Moment.
2. Vibrate on Long Press End Key. I have it set to Silent, but I just want a quiet notification, not nothing at all!
3. Automatically set to vibrate during appts. I think this was an HTC feature too, but it was really handy! Saves me from the embarrassment if I forget to set to silent or vibrate during a meeting. I've read that Locale does this, along with some other cool stuff, but it's $10, plus people say it causes instability.
Is there an app that anyone knows of that allows you to restore your call logs from a WindowsMobile format, or is there a format that I can transfer them into to be able to restore them on Android?I searched and searched and could not find anything on this.I have many cases where there are SMS threads going back several years, some containing invoicing information, and I would like to not lose them.Same with the call logs the history may be important.I've transferred them from several WinMo phones in the past, so have built up quite a history.Don't worry about size or having to put them into a format, I can worry about that, but how can I load them into the Android?Is there maybe a forum or thread that has the file formats for Android? An application that "merges" the data into Android?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI like how in winmo , you can click the top right icon area and pull up all open apps to quickly switch between them. with android, i have to hit the home screen, swipe left (usually one time) to find my app and "re-open" it again. it's a hassle. maybe android doesn't have this option, maybe it's just a winmo thing, but i'm still getting adjusted from winmo > android.

I am writing an application in which i need to handle messages between the main thread(the deafult UI related thread) and the user created Gamethread.
The requirement is like this.
An activity(say "Activity_X") is setting the view by "setContentView(some "View_Y")". In "Activity_X" i have implemeted "onCreateOptionsMenu()" and "onOptionsItemSelected()" fucntions for creating menus & a switch case for action to be taken on selecting those menus.Menu has items like "resume/pause/zoom/" .
All action to be take on selecting these menus are implemented in "View_Y" in a separate Gamethread by extending "Thread" class.
So whenever a menu is selected in "Activity_X" i need to send a message to "View_Y". And on receiving this ,a particular action/method should be called in View_Y(GameThread).
How can i achieve this using Handlers?Is there any other way of doing this? Please do share with me some code snippets for these.
I have a separate thread running to get data from the internet. After that, I would like to update the ListView in the main thread by calling adapter.notifyDataSetChanged(). But it does not work. Any workaround for that?

View 3 Replies View Relatedi have been an avid WinMo user for 3 years now, and i'm through with it.i've purchased an Evo 4G, and am obviously enlighted to the pleasures that come from an Android phone.I have 4 gmail accounts, and an additional POP3 account, and email syncing is no problem. my main concern is being able to sync everything from MS Outlook 2007 to the Evo.I need contacts (both regular contacts as well as the contacts located within my Business Contact Manager database), notes, tasks, calendar, etc.I have read that google syncing works for the most part, but isn't there a program that will give me more of a feel like WinMo Pocket Outlook for my mail, as well as a task application that syncs with MS Office?i don't like reading/responding on "gmail" on the Evo as i lose my signature, formatting, etc that i get with a regular mail client like WinMo Pocket Outlook.

I think she might be the last person on Earth with a Sidekick. Now I really like the HD2 BUT it has the usual HTC BS issues with a buggy frontend and generaly, like all HTC stuff, being excellent in principle but rushed out and becomes major fail. So, this brings me to a Milestone (i'm in the UK).I'm very tempted by this as its similar in form factor to my current Acer M900 - large screen and slide keyboard. But before I do, i'm a little confused by some stuff and was hoping you guys can help me please?
- I'm looking at a Milestone being a UK person, can I use ROM's for a Droid and still retain the multi-touch feature?
- I have read over the past few days that some Droids can auto-reboot. Does this also affect Milestones and have the new 2.01 updates fixed it? Do we know if the 2.1 will defo fix?
- I am a hardcore Office user on my WinMobs, can I get full office functionality on the Droid? I need full outlook sync including tasks. I need to be able to edit Excel and Word and at least look at PowerPoint presentations.
- I also need OneNote or something VERY similar on Android that will sync to my PC as well, can this be done
- I have read that the keyboard can be akward, sadly I have no idea where to try one in the UK so, honestly, is it useable or too cramped
- Battery life - i'd need full push email for 7am to 10pm, can the phone battery handle this
- The HTC HD2 has the usual issue where when locked it will require a reboot to "wake it up" again, does anything like this happen with the Milestone? Its highly embarrasing and VERY frustrating to go to take notes in a meeting only to find I need to reboot before I can....

I developed one small application to display some text at defined intervals in the android emulator screen.I am using Handler class, small snippet from my code...
When i run this appication the text is displayed only one time.Please any one knows how to run a thread using Handler.
In my android app i have an ui-update-thread that keeps all my views up-to-date.

within onStop() to prevent the thread from running all the time. if i don't do this, it would keep running even if i close the app!
problem is: how do i bring this thread back to life when returning from some other activity to this one? run() doesn't work, calling the initial start() in some other method like onResume() crashes the app.

There are so many different roms out there right now. Not only is that confusing for new users. But the fact that there are so many different versions of each ROM that i cant tell which one is the latest version of each. For example. Bugless beasts latest version is 0.4. But their is 1.1, 0.3. I have been following the Droid/Milestone since it was but a twinkle in it's Motomothers eye, and for the most part was absolutely more than impressed with it's specs. Lots and lots of pros. very few cons other than the camera and the keyboard.The keyboard, ahh yes, often such a subjective topic. I see it mentioned in threads here and there, a couple of opinions but nothing hugely specific. So I thought I would make a thread DEDICATED to opinions and discussion about the thing and try and figure out once and for all, short of playing with it (hasn't come to my country yet), if it is any use for one such as me.*So, if you can, please answer the following:
*Do you like the hardware keyboard?
*Do you find tactile response and accuracy sufficient?
*Do you find it comfortable with your size hands?
*Do you use it more than the software QWERTY?
*Likes and dislikes about it?
*What other device would you compare it to positively and negatively?
Hopefully we can get enough people answering to build up an idea of common opinion on the thing. I'm looking forward to the Milestone hitting here with it's multi-touch. Hopefully it won't take too long before Sense UI is ported over and then it really will be the ultimate device.
Being that its now 12:01 A.M. here I went to Menu->about phone->System Updates and checked for updates.. Its currently pulling down an update as we speak! It looks like our update has finally arrived! I am non-rooted so Im not sure how you root users are doing!
