HTC EVO 4G : Data Network Unavailable - None Of My Applications Get Internet Aceess And Mobile Network Status Says Turning On

Jul 5, 2010

I seem to be seeing an issue with the data network access on the EVO. When it happens none of my applications get internet aceess and my mobile network status says "turning on". The only way I've found to fix it is to pull the battery. Any one else seeing this? If so is there a better fix than pulling the battery?

HTC Droid Eris :: Mobile Network ON - Can't See That Have Any Network Traffic Or Any Apps Running In Background That Are Syncing Data At All

May 29, 2010

My eris has always has pretty alright battery life, what I would expect out of a smartphone, if unplugged at 9AM it usually was running on its last leg around midnight. I've had it for over 5 months now, I've always had it activated on alltel, I installed the 2.1v3 leak before the official OTA was out and just lately it seems like there something very wrong with my battery life...

If I unplug my phone at 9AM within the past week and occasionaly check and respond to a text message, my battery had been down to almost 30% by NOON... what?..

I have noticed that if I disable Mobile Network (3g/1x data), the thing lasts all day and some... If I turn mobile network ON, I can't see that I have any network traffic or any apps running in the background that are syncing data at all... I've had google account sync mess up on me before and have to reset my google account because it gets stuck in a syncing loop, but its not doing that, already checked. Very weird.

Anyone thing it could be something wrong in my ##PROGRAM#/##778# provisioning menu, maybe something got changed?.. Maybe it could be do to Alltel's AT&T merger that's happening right now, maybe some 3G tower's radios are turned off or something...

HTC Hero :: Data Network Wi-Fi On Off

Nov 22, 2009

I have had some issues concerning turning data management back on. Since I only have 250 MB included in my plan, I would much rather have the phone on wifi only when I'm at home Problem is, when I turn data network back on, it says "network not available". The only workaround seems to be turning the phone off completely and rebooting. SLOW.By the way, this happens both with the excellent app Quick Settings and the normal Parameters Phone App.I saw someone having similar issues regarding Wifi On/Offwith a Sprint Hero.

HTC EVO 4G :: Is There An App To Turn Off Data Network?

Jun 22, 2010

My dad works in a secure building and needs a phone without a camera. He's with ATT and uses a dumbphone. He wants an android phone he can swap his sim card into while not at work. He has neither a data plan or a texting plan because he doesn't use them. He's considering an unlocked Legend or N1 if he can find an app/widget that will disable the data network radios on his phone, so he can only use the wifi. Would this work, or are there better apps/widgets you guys know of?

General :: Forcing 2G When 3G Not Available

Dec 10, 2011

I'd like to know is there some android application that can control my 2G/3G settings based on a rule (something like AutomateIt, which does not do that) so that it stops my phone from trying to connect to 3G network when signal is low or lost?

Let me explain - I go twice a week to a gym which is actually in the basement of a building, and my carrier's network is very weak there, mostly no signal at all. During those 2hrs period I've noticed that my battery drainage is larger than when I'm in the reach of the network.

Since I know that cell phones tries to log-on to the network using maximum power, and that 3G uses more juice than 2G, I concluded that my phone is trying to reconnect to 3G network when it looses signal instead of doing nothing.

Now, I don't exactly know how phones in general behave when they loose signal alltogether (I think they go from 3G down to 2G and then should go into some passive, listening-only mode, waiting for the beacon from the cell tower), but I guess that in such cases it would be better for me to force the phone to go to 2G (and keep reconnecting/listening on 2G) and later on, when it detects 3G, switch back to it.

Unfortunately, Automate It does not have radio control and I can't use it like I do at night to turn off sync and data and turn it on in the morning. Also it does not have a rule related to network signal strength/type/whatever.

I can't use some timer app that would simply turn on/off airplane mode during that period, because I might not go to the gym sometimes, or I might simply be late or leave the gym later, so I'd still have larger battery drainage, even for a short period of time.

HTC EVO 4G :: Sprint Data Network In Houston

Jun 7, 2010

So I've been using my phone for a few days now, both at home, at work and a few other places around town. So far Sprint's network has been unusably slow.Is this normal? For instance, 3G seems to be capping out around .5mbps, often closer to .2mbps, with tons of packetloss. By comparison, on AT&T I was consistently getting 1.5 and 1.8 in the same areas. For anyone that had Sprint before the masses of early Evo adopters deluged Sprint's network, what was your experience?Does .5mbps seem about right?Am I just expecting too much?

HTC EVO 4G :: 'Messaging' App Always Forcing Close / Fix This

Jun 20, 2010

Randomly the messaging app from HTC (the one that comes with the phone) forces itself to close and then deletes all my texts. It happens when I'm not using the phone or using the phone, and at any given time. Sometimes I get an error that says 'Force Close' or 'Wait' and sometimes I don't get any error.

Does anyone have some insight on whats going on here? I've reset/turned off the phone numerous times, but did not fix this issue.

HTC Desire :: Connected To WiFi Network But No Data?

May 28, 2010

I've had my desire for around a month now & had no real problems with it, flashed it with a stock ROM initially & then rooted it a couple of days after the root was released. When I woke up this morning I was connected to my WiFi network but when I tried to load a webpage, nothing happens, it comes up with the stock 'Web page not available' page. I tried a couple of web pages but got the same response, I thought it might be my WiFi network but when I got to work, exactly the same thing happens. I can connect via GPRS when I disable the WiFi with no problem. I've been using Y5 Battery Saver for the past two weeks, not sure if that's relevant. Is this a standard error / known bug, how would I go about fixing this, not having WiFi is obviously a bit of pain!

OK, installed a Terminal emulator over 3G & ran a couple of commands, including dmesg. From the output of dmesg it looks like the WiFi connects but then something goes wrong, here's a brief transcript:
pfn: set ssid = ******
Link event
Link UP
Enter set packet filter
start to add pkt filter 101
wds: 0021 @ 01
qmi: wds: network stopped
rmnet_stop()
wds: 0022 @ ff
qmi: wds: DISCONNECTED
If this is any use, I'm happy to try other commands.

Android :: ActivityList - Loading Data From Network Best Practice

What is best practice for:

Displaying a loading indication to the user.
Threading the networking stuff so that the user can cancel the loading of the data if need be / move to the previous activity.

Example/source code would be greatly appreciated - I've used http://www.helloandroid.com/tutorials/newsdroid-rss-reader as an introduction, however it doesn't display a loading indication.

General :: Mobile Data (3G) Not Working After Network Registration Fix?

I'm a SGS2 owner on T-Mobile and a university student. Yesterday morning my phone anomylously deregistered itself from my network, displaying the error message "Not registered on network" whenever I attmpted to make a call.

I phoned Samsung and T-Mobile and resolved the issue by a 'Network Refresh' and manually registering the phone to T-Mobile. I registered manually and had the phone working hours before I got the text from my NSP telling me that I had recieved a network refresh. About which time I noticed that my 3G was not connecting, and has yet to establish a connection today.

General :: Forcing Android Orientation?

May 11, 2012

I'm working with an ARM based development board running Android 2.3.3, that's connected to a monitor via a VGA cable. Due to a lack of a touchscreen I'm controlling the device via keyboard and mouse.

The main Android desktop displays fine, however when I open certain apps, the orientation is wrong. It thinks its in portrait mode when it should in fact be displayed in a landscape mode. Since the development board lacks gyroscopes, this has me craning my neck to navigate the app. It wouldn't be so bad but on top of that, the mouse cursor doesn't go down beyond about 75% of the screen, leaving the bottom 25% of the app inaccessible.

Is there any way I can force a system-wide landscape orientation, either via some settings, or some adb command?

General :: Forcing GPS ON / OFF For Root User?

Oct 20, 2012

Ok, right now i own a Galaxy Player YP-G1, rooted it with SuperOneClick like a week ago looking for a way to make battery last for longer time. Actually i've got good results after installing SetCPU and doing some reseach about how to config it.

However i still have a problem related to the GPS radio. It keeps turning on even if i disable it in the status bar and in the device's configuration menu. I've realized this GPS thing drains battery too much and haven't found a way to force it to stay off. Always turns on by itself whatever i do.

Tried to disable autorun on all apps that used GPS localization with Gemini App Manager, still turns on...

I'd like to know if there's a rooted way to keep this off. Yesterday it turned on in the morning and even having used the music player for less than an hour the battery died extremely fast! and another days that it has stayed off battery has lasted until late night. It has to the GPS.
