HTC Droid Eris :: What My Uploads Task Is?
Aug 15, 2010Does anyone know what the My Uploads task is? Can it be killed?
View 1 RepliesDoes anyone know what the My Uploads task is? Can it be killed?
View 1 RepliesI know this was talked about before at different times but I still have 3 questions.
1. what is the difference between a task killer and a task manager?
2. should we be using one of these apps or not?
3. when you look at the awake time if it is like 70% or 80% and you aren't using the phone a bunch I take it that means something is running, how can you find what is running.and is the awake time that big of deal?
I currently run TasKiller because I find my phone gets SOOO SLOW. I back all the way out of apps but I still have trouble.
Is this still an issue for those with some form of 2.1 or am I doing something wrong? Is there maybe a better way of managing my system resources without killing apps?
What is the best task killer. I was using ATK but it would start out at like 60 know free then with in hours be down to 30 with no running apps showing and with the phone just sitting there. Also how do they work and why do some apps keep reappearing like footprints.
View 36 Replies View RelatedI tried some searching and was unsuccessful, so I apologize if tis has been covered before.I just recently decided to start posting pics I take with my droid onto facebook and am noticing tht I can only figure out how to load one photo at a time and having to repeat entire process for each photo. What I am curious about...is there a way that I am missing since the 2.2 update, or an application I can download to where I can select and upload multiple photos at once without having to repeat process for each picture.Any help from you guys is greatly appreciated.I enjoy all the discussions on here as tey have helped me many times in the past.
View 7 Replies View RelatedShould I get a task manager/killer app? I have read good and bad about these apps. My phone works pretty darn good without one.
View 7 Replies View Relatedmy eris is slow....i've got task killer pro and use it often...texting just one person takes forever..to the point where i'd much rather hook up to pdanet and text from my computer....when i try to load it up..it takes a minute to load up...try to type..it takes a minute to fully load so i can start typing..which normally ends up in all caps or symbols and i have to erase and type it all over again..cause it finally caught up...then sending it..it has loading...that takes forever..then for it to finally pop up on the screen takes another long time...
My eris normally runs with 64 memory when i do task killer..thats about the average...this is like my storm all over again..without the battery pulls..
I am looking for a good To Do / Task program to help with organization. I have tried the open loopz but it is VERY buggy and doesnt work. Any thoughts?
View 8 Replies View Relatedfor some reason ever since i installed this its been sucking my battery dry.. this shouldn't be happening should it?
also - how do u find out what applications are running and how much memory you have (or is this what advanced task killer tells you?)
Ok after seeing the somewhat heated threads on here about whether or not to use a task killer to help mange memory and improve performance on the droid Eris I decided to run my own little unscientific test.
So just a bit of background, Ive been in enterprise wide IT for 10 years now. I will say that my O/S knowledge is not exactly current but that may not be a bad thing for this. I will also state that what I report is just my own experience and I have not repeated is several times to validate anything. YMMV!
About four weeks ago my Eris was running like poo. Slow, lag city and getting almost unusable. I had been using Advanced Task killer quite liberally during this time trying to keep the device usable. Short term it seemed to help restore some of the response issues but it didnt take long before I was trying reboots to get the phone working well. Here is a list of apps I had installed at the time.
Pandora
Weather Bug
Shop Savy
Google Sky
Daily Dilbert
Bloom County
WiFi Analyzer
Silent Mode Toggle
Taskiller
SpareParts
battery Widget
Robot Guitarist
keyring reward
tv.com
NPR News
Movies
Shazam
Zedge
ip-calc
aldiko
JogTracker
UnitConverter
Backgrounds
photoshop mobile
plink art
Weather channel
Radar now
Last.fm
Plus a few others that had been removed.
That quite a few apps but not overboard in my book, and most seem to be pretty stable.
Anyway I decided to wipe the device and start over again, but with the debate raging I decided that I was not going to run any sort of task killer or other memory manager. And that I was going to run for at least four weeks and report the results. I will say I trimmed some of the redundant apps (weather bug replaced all the other weather apps nicely)
I have to say that over all I dont feel like I need a memory manager or task killer. It would be hard to say that the phone is a zippy as it was right after I wiped it, but as of now its no where near as laggy as it was before I wiped it. I feel my battery life is just fine, but I am not one who thinks that battery is an issue anyway. If there is 10% left when my head hits the pillow at night then I am a happy camper.
So this does beg the question what does using a memory manager really do for your experience on the phone? I cant for sure state that using a task killer caused my lag issues before, but it was not helping at the time either. My apps and usage have not changed very much other then not using a task killer and as of now my phone is running pretty darn well.
For me I am pretty firmly in the do-not-need-a-task-killer-camp for now. And before you flame or argue with me I challenge you to try it both ways for a while (with a clean wipe). I am sure that others have had a different experiences and maybe using one works for them.
I have used both Taskpanel and Advanced Task Killer. Both re-boots the phone after closing all background apps.
Anyone have another good one I can try?
I just noticed that Astro has a built-in task killer. (Please no more about if we NEED a task killer) What I like about the killer on astro is that it lets me see how much memory and cpu a task or process is actually using before I kill it. I rarely use a task killer. Only when a task seems to be hanging up. It looks like Astro has the functionality I need, so I will remove Advanced Task Killer.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI downloaded atk a couple days ago and everything worked great! Last night my phone died. When I charged it and turned it back on this morning I went into task killer to clear out all the apps that turn on automatically and then I hit home. Whenever I did this before, it took me back to the home page, no problem. Now I get a black page with HTC on it and then it resets the home page and I lose my weather. Eventually, it comes back, but why all the sudden am I getting the black HTC screen?
View 11 Replies View RelatedMy Droid Eris still lags very bad even when clearing cache and adding a task killer. Anything else that can be done?
View 18 Replies View RelatedI finally deleted Advanced Task Killer. Ever since getting my Eris, I have been dependent upon it. I have in fact been obsessed with it, making sure I clicked the ATK widget to kill all programs before ever putting my phone to sleep. I was obsessed with battery life and the Messages App issue. Now, I am giving it a shot.
My two biggest concerns are phone speed and battery life. My battery life has been fine, mostly because I shut my 3G off when I am at home or work. My phone speed has been lagging considerably, and I am hoping that deleting ATK, along with deleting some unused Apps and clearing the cache, will help keyboard lag and general app lag. I will keep you posted to see what happens. I am excited, I know that a lot of you have highly suggested not using Task Killers, and I am excited to not be bound by it. However after a week if I notice considerable battery life loss, and no considerable difference in device speed, I may reinstall it. We shall see!
Is there any real reason that I should have the full .99 version of advanced task manager as opposed to the free version?
View 11 Replies View RelatedI set my screen to use HOME versus Sense UI. Well, I put the ATM widget on my screen for single click app ends...when I do this, though, it kills home.
Anyway I can exclude Home from this. It doesn't appear to be an option in my Apps list when i open Advanced Task Manager
I have YET to receive a single email from androidforums.com when I use "Instant Email Notification" for thread replies.
I have an HTC eris and lately I've been having an issue with atm. Every time I have it kill my tasks it takes me to the HTC screen (the one that appears during start-up) and then "please wait" appears with my wallpaper in the background. It does still kill the tasks however it has never done this before and it seems abnormal. Ive heard that task managers can be bad for your phone?
View 10 Replies View RelatedWith Advanced Task Killer, which apps should I exclude to avoid poor app performance. For example, I realized after reading another thread today that I should exclude the Weather Channel widget. I could not figure out why the weather conditions did not update automatically. Excluded the widget and now it updates. Any other apps that are similar?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just downloaded this Android System Information free from teh Market, and I thought I'd let you guys know about it. It's pretty damn awesome. It basically tells you everything you wanna know about your phone including every spec, every task running and how much CPU it is eaiting in real time, it has logs and everything. I highly recommend getting this app.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm sure its been covered somewhere but does anyone have an explanation as to why when I open advanced task killer it tells me a bunch of apps, that I didn't open, are running? Doesn't really slow my phone down too much, just annoying... Running Eris Root KaosFroyo
View 2 Replies View RelatedHas anyone used both. Ive heard that that Advanced Task Killer, still drains the battery. What about the Automatic Task Killer, which puts everything to sleep when not in use.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI saw a post today and was wondering if there is any truth behind this:"Task killers are pointless. Android powered phones have one built in, dont use one on my rooted nonsensikal froyo. Runs better then when I had it."
View 5 Replies View Relatedperhaps it is just me but my phone, wife's phone and the phone in the Sprint store all have the same issue. Take a movie or a photo doesn't matter and try to share regardless of option and anything under 3mb goes it seems. Anyhting over gets "queued waiting for WiFi connection".Little upset with this as the Sprint peeps have no clue I'm not completely stupid and I can't figure it out. And frankly I'm paying for the hotsopt ability plus the extra charge for access to 4g, i live in a 4g market, Austin Texas I should be able to upload anything any size any time.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I'm uploading the pictures I take through the share function to picasaweb.Unfortunately they are not completely uploading. It says they complete successfully but when I view them online the bottom 5% is a gray bar instead of the photo. It is like the whole jpeg didn't upload.Anybody else experiencing this? Know how to fix it?Evo is non-rooted and has all recent updates.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIn our app we're doing background photo uploads. The current implementation works using a combination of a Service and an AsyncTask. The former will trigger the latter, which will do the actual network I/O.
My question is: since the user can trigger many uploads in parallel, is this the correct implementation pattern? The problem is that I can never call Service.stopSelf() from an upload task when it finishes, because those tasks don't know anything about each other or the service that triggered them (because of the very nature of AsyncTask).
Do I even need a Service here at all? I always thought services were meant for long running background tasks, but their documentation clearly states that one must execute blocking operations in a separate thread. What's the purpose of Services then? You could just fork an AsyncTask from an Activity, it would make no difference at all.
this will be a fix in Froyo, supposedly due out by christmas for all us EVO owners. (unless you have rooted it already). YouTube App won't upload Multiple movies. I take several clips when documenting my friends and family. then I like to upload them all at the end of the day off the phone. This seems like a normal practice, but it is something that the YouTube app seems to have a problem with.
Here is the scenario:
I'm in Videos.
I click Share.
I choose YouTube from the Pop-up.
Then I choose my videos (plural).
Now they are all in the Que.
First video in the que uploads slowly, and then randomly stops at 40 or 50 or 60% saying "Waiting to retry"
This is the case for every single Multiple Upload I do. So I ran tests with: Gmail - no luck cause it get's stuck on "Sending" with no progress bar. Browser - upload disabled on Mobile devices over browser. What works is - Uploading 1 video at a time.
Uploads from Evo videos are no longer going though, keep getting waiting one minute to retry messages Also the youtube widget doesn't work anymore since froyo, any fixes.

View 3 Replies View RelatedAnyone know how to unclog stalled uploads to Facebook? I've tried to upload vacation photos but they don't get through + remain somewhere between the cloud + my T-Mobile MyTouch phone. I've tried clearing the cache as well as logging off + relogging. Nothing seems to work.
