HTC Droid Eris :: Workaround For Syncing Facebook Photos Only
Apr 19, 2010
You'll have to manually connect some of your contacts if their names don't match. This syncs their photos, but NOT the rest of their info. It does NOT bring all of your Facebook contacts into your phone and SMS apps.

Has anyone figured out the difference between syncing Facebook for HTC Sense in the account syncing section vs. plain Facebook? I am trying to figure out if the one I'm using (Facebok for HTC Sense) is using up too much memory.
My phone memory is around 33% whereas my husband's memory is 64%! He has very few contacts and I'm wondering if the syncing with Facebook is taking up all my phone memory (vs SD Card memory which is fine).

I searched but couldn't find what I needed.I made the mistake of syncing my Eris with Facebook. I would rather use the photos I have for contacts in Gmail but now that I've synced with Facebook I can't get the photos to go away, short of going to each contact and choosing to sync the birthdays but not photos. Even then, would i really have to add each of their photos to the SD card and change each one individually in their contact file? More simply put: How can I unsync Facebook photos with contacts? I tried logging out of Facebook and uninstalling the app but, disturbingly, it continues to show contact photos from FB and, more disturbingly, gives me updates on them. I'm definitely logged out and I definitely uninstalled the app.

I just set up my Droid Eris to sync my contacts with their Facebook profile so that their photos would show up in my contacts. I synced them all and them matched up properly, but their pictures are not aligned properly. When I first did it, their faces were aligned and everything looked ok, except some pictures were pretty pixelated. But after a few minutes, the pixelation went away and the quality of the pictures was better, except a lot of my contacts have their head not in the photo or just misaligned. More than half are off.I thought at first it was that they didn't set up their picture properly on Facebook, but I looked at their mini pictures (like the ones that show up in the news feed) and their faces were showing up properly. Even their mini pictures on the facebook app are correct. And these seem to be the same size as the pics in my contacts. Why is it that my contacts photos aren't aligned right on some of them and how can I fix this?

I can't stand the fact that the Facebook app automatically adds my Facebook friends to my contact list, but they don't show up when I open the People icon, only when I'm choosing the contacts to send or forward a text to.I want to be able to sync the contacts I have with their Facebook profile, but I don't want Facebook automatically adding contacts to my phone. And I can't just diasble auto-sync because there are programs that apparently need it running. The only other option I can think of is to completely remove Facebook from my phone and that's bullsh*t.I know it sounds confusing, but does anyone have any ideas on how to get around this? It woulddn't be such a problem, but now when I go to pick my contacts to forwards to, I have hundreds of contacts instead of the 95 or so I had before.

Alright, so I'm pretty terrible with birthdays and other important dates so I started adding some of them to the calender. Suddenly I thought to myself, "Hey is there a way I can do birthdays, anniversaries etc from my people contacts and facebook and link them in one shot to my calender." Is this possible? Is it possible to have it send daily reminders as the date approaches? I see the option to send a reminder a day to a week in advance but does it send out reminder every day from the reminder point to the day of the event?

I've searched for threads/answers about this issue but I haven't found any...and I'm a noob to the forum (and 2.1) so bear with me / don't eat me alive.
I enjoyed the Facebook syncing on 1.5, but I don't really have any interest in bringing over my Facebook contact photos as caller ID pictures (it's annoying when someone posts a picture of a car, for example, as their default picture -- my friend is not a Toyota). I do like seeing status updates in my People app and having access to a unified "updates" panel in People.
I've gone into the "link" settings and changed the photo manually to the Google Contacts photo that I specified, and that works fantastically -- until Facebook for HTC Sense does its hourly sync and overwrites that preference with the contact's default Facebook picture AGAIN.
I've tried syncing, un-syncing, removing the sync option, etc. in the past 2 leaks and this problem remains. Am I missing something or is this just another annoying beta bug that HOPEFULLY will be gone in OTA?

How do I make my contact photo stay as the google photo.I have several contacts who are linked to facebook contacts and have selected the google image are their main photo. Unfortunately some of the contacts seem to keep changing back to the facebook photo after a short while, whilst others remain OK.I have been struggling with this for quite some time, each time I change the selected image back to google but it always changes itself back.

Ok so I just flashed JRummy's remix last night and since then I haven't been able to get my Facebook account to sync... I do the Settings>Accounts and sync>Add Account>Facebook and all it does is go back to the add account page... I had this problem before I used JRummy's so I don't think it is the ROM... (that time I just kept hitting facebook and it eventually worked).

I have had my Droid since January and when I began to update my contact my friends that did not have facebook I would just go under an album and assign a picture off of facebook to their contact. When you go to the facebook picture from an album there was an option that said "set as". Well today I went to go try to set a picture to another friend and the "set as" option no longer shows up? Was that taken away with an update? Is there anyway to set a facebook picture from an album to a friend?

A decent number of my contacts are syncing with facebook but there are no photos associated with them. When I click on their facebook account through the contact card their profile doesn't show either their profile picture or any of their photo albums. Most of my other friends are syncing and properly showing pictures, but for some reason a fair number won't display any pictures. Anyone else having this problem?

I have the Samsung Moment on Sprint and I gotta say I do love everything about it, but on thing is troubling me. When I go to: Settings>Accounts>Add Account>Facebook
It just takes me back to the "Add Account" screen. There's no option to even input my information to sync the account. Does anyone know what could be causing this problem?

I've read the constant threads where people say, just find the friend on facebook, hold press their icon and it will do whatever. doesnt work at all, the only thing happens is if i quick press i get the chooser to email them, or view their facebook profile. what im trying to do is manually sync a contact on my phone with a facebook contact. on my friends droid eris he can open up a phone contact, hit edit and actually has a field for him to type my facebook name in and it will sync. there anyway to do this? im tired of only having like 10 peoples profiles actually syncing with my phone contacts and another 100 not synced..

I'm having some difficulty with sending photos to facebook. If I take a photo using the option in the facebook app, the photo will be a thumbnail size when it gets sent to facebook. However, when I take the photo through the camera app and then do share to facebook, it will be full size. Is this just me or is there a way around this?

I have done what most of you have done, 2.2 root, blah blah blah!!! Thx to all the hard working, talented devs!
I removed some bloatware using TB and removed the apk responsible for updating my facebook contacts profile pics. I notice this yesterday as my wife had changed her profile pic and status they have not updated in my contacts. This has been going on since the night I 2.2 it and rooted and removed the bloatware. Does any body know the apk (system app) that needs to be re-installed. I have downloaded the system apps.rar file and have all of them, I just don't know which one it is.
