I got the Droid yesterday, and I'm trying to use Google Voice *just* for voicemail. However, it seems like I never get notifications about new voicemail, unless the app is open. Also, recorded voicemail is very soft when it's played back, almost too soft to hear.

In my notification bar at the top of my screen it says i have 1 voicemail. This notification also pops up when i turn my phone back on from being locked. However, when I check my voicemail, I do not have a new message or any saved messages either. Whats going on and how do I get rid of it?

I use google voice for voice mail. I have it set up to send me a gmail when I get a voicemail, and it usually works great. But on my train commute, there is one section that is underground and does not get any voice or data service. This is followed by another section that gets voice service but no data service. When someone tries to call me when I am in the no voice/data service area, I do not get a voice mail notification until I am back in the full voice/data service area. Due to the train being stopped in the voice but no data service for some time, I did not get the notification for about 20 minutes.
My question is, if I set up google voice to SMS instead of email voicemail notifications to me, will I then get the notifications as soon as I am back in voice service territory? That is, does SMS use voice while email requires data service? I have a limited text message plan, so I was hoping to not use up text messages with voicemail notifications.
Also, I never received a notification from the Missed Call app. Is this because google voice picks up the call before it even reaches the phone when I am not in a voice service area?

Assuming the "Better Terminal Emulator" selling for $3.99 in the marketplace works, are there any other terminal apps that work with the Eris that people are using? I tried the free "Terminal Emulator" but it appears a virtual keyboard does not work.

Whenever I get a new voicemail, I get two simultaneous notifications. One, the standard voicemail notification that stays in the tray even after clearing notifications. The second is an SMS notification and it goes into my text messages.I have no need for the SMS notification if it's already giving me the standard VM notification, but have been unable to find out how to turn it off.My phone isn't rooted, and I don't plan on doing so in the near future, in case that has any bearing on potential solutions.

I am currently using Google Voice for my Visual Voicemail. When someone leaves a voicemail, I get about 5 notification sounds in a row! It's so annoying. I bascially get a couple of email notifications, a message notification, etc. Is there a way where it only makes one notification sound and just shows that you have a new voicemail? I don't need a bunch of things going off at once.

I recently purchased my new Desire and although I love it, i've noticed two annoying faults! 1. When i send text messages to some contacts, the phone decides to send them not as an sms but as an email or sometime even an mms! 2. My voicemail notifications are being received under one of my Facebook contacts instead of just plain Vodafone! Very weird as my contacts list isnt set to display Facebook contacts even though its an option! Is anyone else having the same problem and been able to fix this? Im sure its just the settings that need to be changed but ive had a play and just cant seem to stop it happening!

So, I had I think a free version or something of Visual voicemail before on myBB. Of course thatjust transferred over to my Eris when I got it last Dec. But, that voicemail service would alway send texts when I recieved a new VM and it got annoying so I turned off the notifications. When I did, I just stored the voicemails # to dial in my contacts. Unfortunately I must have done it as a phone contact rather than google because when I reset my phone the number was gone. therefore I have no way of checking my voicemail... any ideas?

I'm having a problem that just started today for some reason (maybe I messed something up).I've been using Google Voice for texting as well as sending/receiving phone calls. Up until today, whenever I got a text message it notified me through Google Voice app on my phone. The same thing with voicemails. But what happened today is that it isn't notifying me for some reason. To actually "receive" the text messages and voicemails through Voice, I have to go into Google Voice app and hit "refresh".Under "sync and notifications" for settings in Voice, I have "synchronize inbox" checked as well as "inbox notifications" so that I'm notified in the status bar when new items arrive. And like I said, up until today it was working flawlessly, but now I have to hit "refresh" to receive them in Voice.

Just downloaded the Update, now you can use speakerphone or earpiece to listen to voicemails. Also, it works even if you are on wifi, so no more annoying error messages while using wifi. It tempararily activates 3G to get your voicemails while you are on wifi. It works great so far.

I have the Eris and I signed up for the Visual Voicemail through the widget (?) on the home screen. When I listen to my voicemails, they play through the speakerphone.I have tried to turn off the speakerphone by pushing the menu button when I am in Visual VM.I looked in options and preferences and can't find a way to set the phone so the voicemail doesn't play for everyone to hear.Any ideas? Also, what exactly are the benefits of paying an extra $2.99 a month for this service?

Does anyone know how to get the number "1" to be your voicemail speed dial? I've done the 2.1 update, and saved the *86pXXXX# as the password, but the dialer won't got to voicemail when I actually press "1" on the dial pad. Does anyone have a fix for this?

Is there a program application that I can download that will provide a better alert for 'voicemail'. The HTC Droid Eris gives me tiny symbol up at the top. I would like an alert that rings periodically. Any suggestions ?

I have an issue where occasionally a call will go straight to my voicemail without ringing or otherwise notifying until there suddenly appears a voicemail. And I don't think it even shows up as a missed call. Anyone else have this happen or know what the cause may be? My phone is set to ring & vibrate, and is usually just sitting there asleep. I'm not on another call or otherwise using it. But I can test call it right after and it's fine. Frustrating.

So I just got my Google Voice invite today, and rushed through the setup process. I now can't for the life of me, figure out how to NOT use my Google Voice voicemail and just use the standard Verizon voicemail.
When I go to Settings>Call>Voicemail Service and toggle it back to "My Carrier" and then dial *86 instead of getting my Verizon inbox choices it gives me my Google Voice voicemail greeting and prompts me to leave a message.
I've toggled the "Google Voicemail" and "My Carrier" setting back and forth a few times to no avail, tried to reboot, unlinked and uninstalled everything and still can't seem to figure out how to get back to the normal Verizon voicemail box. I know I'll eventually get comfortable with GV that I'll just want to use that, but for the time being I'd like to use my Verizon voicemail. Not to mention that there were 4 messages in that inbox that I hadn't listened to yet and now I cannot find them or access them anywhere.

I got a Google Voice invite about a week ago, and while I mainly just wanted the voicemail perks, I went for the new number, just so I could have all the bells and whistles when I eventually need them.
In the meantime, however, rather than let the account sit idle, I really wanted to figure out how to use the Voice visual voicemail for my Verizon line. I was on an iPhone for almost two years--I'm never going to go without visual voicemail again. But I'm not paying Verizon for it, the third-party apps I've tried all had enough annoying traits to drive me away, and hot damn, inaccurate as it may be, I want voicemail transcription if only for the comedic benefits of reading the mad-lib transcriptions of friends' voicemails.
So, anyway, I finally stumbled across this post on the Google forums, giving a step-by-step procedure to redirect your missed/ignored/busy calls to your google voice account. (Basically, you make three calls using prefixes and your google voice number to set the redirects... the instructions also include all of the codes to undo all the redirects if/when you decide to go back to normal.) I tried it out, it took all 60 seconds to set up, and it works beautifully.
Depending on how your voice account is set up, you may need to adjust some settings (so you don't get an email, text, AND google voice notification every time you get a voicemail, which I quickly discovered was quite annoying).
Again, this only works if you have a Google Voice account, with a new number (but then, if you got GV for an existing number, you wouldn't have to go through all this).

When I use the phone to check voicemails, why doesn't the keypad come up automatically with checking them? My HTC Touch and phones before this did. If you put a number in for the password, it should pop up to enter it without hitting the keypad icon.

So I just called Verizon, my original Eris was returned because I couldn't answer calls before they went to voicemail, and now I have the silent speaker bug, I can't hear anyone on through the speaker and they can't hear me on the other side. Has anyone had luck with the replacements? Maybe I'm just getting bad ones.

Is it still possible to make your password part of the voicemail speed-dial #, so you don't have to dial the password every time? I can't seem to find that option since the OTA.

I've searched all over the internet, and all over my phone trying desperately to figure out why I can't listen to my voicemail anymore. I installed Fusion Visual Voicemail a few weeks ago, and didn't really use it that much, so I uninstalled it. My phone crashed and I had to hard reset it, but I'm still getting those texts from the App when I receive a new voicemail. They don't make sense, it's all a bunch of numbers. When I try to call my voicemail it's another answering service. I can't find it under the "Manage Applications" tab.
I'm sorry if these seems redundant or ridiculously stupid.
