I went to use my Eris as a music player for the first time. I plugged in my headphones and tested it out by playing a song. The song plays loud and clear through the headphones, but also plays loud and clear through the phone speaker/earpiece. I could not figure out why it would not just play through the headphones. (I have tried a pair of apple earbuds, as well as basic Sony ones).

The Eternal Speaker plays forever. I never noticed it before today, but my Eris is definitely not disabling music playback through the eternal speaker when I plug headphones (or an adapter, or anything) into the headphone jack. Sound still comes through the earbuds or headphones nice and crisp, just the speaker is ALSO playing the same sound, at the same volume.
This sort of defeats the purpose of one of the main reasons I use headphones- to mute sound for everyone but me. I tried different music players, different headphones, made sure the phone knew they were non-mic headphones, everything. I can't find a setting to tell the speaker to disable when headphones are in- isn't it supposed to be automatic?
My captivate external speaker plays music while I'm listening to the headphones, am I missing a setting to turn this off? Shouldn't the phone's external speaker not be playing music while I'm using my headphones? Sometimes the external speaker will remain silent while my headphones are working (as I would imagine should be the case) until I receive a text message, and then the external speaker will play music along with the headphones. Anyone think this could be a problem with my device? My 30 day period expires on Sept.5 so I am wondering if I should return it for an exchange?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just activated replacement Eris number two. Upon plugging it into my PC, the phone started playing a loud music track at maximum volume. When I went to adjust my volume, I found that this sound was being controlled by my ringtone volume and not media volume (interesting). I did a reboot of the phone and was greeted by the sound as soon as I plugged it in. The sound's duration is about thirty seconds.
I've plugged it into the other computer here and had the same issue. I've had it plugged into my computer for about an hour, and I have heard the music start up without notice twice so far. I did a google search as well as a search here and haven't found another user with this peculiar (if amusing/irritating) issue. I can upload a video/soundclip if wanted. I was considering rooting but I don't want to have to go to the trouble if I'm going to have to send this phone back to Verizon.
Would love a good music app for my captivate which bypasses everything and immediately goes to the last song played and begins from there. Bypasses the unlock screen and any "last apps" I was using. A true "plug and play". Is there such an app? Right now I have to plug in the phones, unlock the phone, back out of my messenger or email program, select the music app, select the album or artist and then the songs. Its all a bit tiring if I do it somewhat frequently like in and out of the car.

When I plugged in my earbuds from my Ipod tonight to go for a walk, the music continued to play through the speaker and not the headphones. I can't seem to find what I have done. I am using Isynch for my music and the preloaded music app. Do I need special headphones?

I have sound when Bluetooth headphones are connected. When no headphones are connected music does not play thru speaker either.

When listening to music via the music player through headphones, any movement of the headphone input in the headphone jack causes tracks to FF it seems. i.e. If you spin the cord while in the jack, or even if you just push it in farther to see if it is fully seated tracks will FF. Not a showstopper, but I wanted to put this out there and see if anyone can reproduce this or is my phone just weird?

I got an S3 clone and the phone works fine but when I woke up this morning, I come to find out the audio stopped working. I lost my headset and plugged in these expensive headphones with no mic and the mic on the moment does not activate. It thinks that I'm using a full headset with a headphone and mic on the hero when I plugged in a headset it showed up an icon with headphones and mic, but when I plugged in regular headphones, it didn't show the mic and allowed me to use the hero's mic. Is there a way to get the ring/notification only through the headphones? Well the problems started 3 weeks ago when i noticed whenever i move around the headphones inside the jack, the music stops or one of the ear buds stop working. so i thought it was the headphones since skullcandies don't last long. i got a new pair and listened again but it STILL HAPPENED . (btw, the phone is not rooted)
The Phone still plays media fine without the headphones, so i thought no big deal. NEW PROBLEMS started to occur. The phone would NOT PLAY Media files whatsoever. (games, music, notifications, APPS ) every time it happens i have to restart the phone.
Yesterday I exchanged my Eris for a new one because the screen brightness on my old one was too dim. Now I notice that when I plug in the phone to charge, the phone stays awake. On my first phone it would just go to sleep when charging so my awake time was usually around 15-20%. When I took my new phone off the charger this morning it was up to 58% . My gf's Eris also sleeps when being charged so I'm thinking mine is the exception now. I'm thinking of calling Verizon tech support later but wanted to see if this happens to anyone else here.
