I was wondering how these apps work. I was looking into Pandora. Seems pretty cool but then I saw that in order for these "streaming" apps to work, you're basically paying for internet time the whole time you're listening to the music, right? If this is the case, why use this type of app vs. simply downloading the music files to the phone?

I am a current iPhone 3G user, but after having lost all my contacts, text message history, and Safari bookmarks when I updated to the new OS, I am ready to be done with Apple. But, before I switch, I'm trying to get a handle on what apps Android has. My favorite apps are radio stations across the country that stream over the iphone. Does Droid have these? Is there a list somewhere that shows what ones are available?

View 3 Replies View RelatedPrior to the 2.2 update if I was streaming music (Pandora or similar) or listening to MP3's (HTC's music player) while I was using the Google Navigation feature to get somewhere, my music would fade out when Google Needed to give me driving instructions, then fade back up afterwards. This was a brilliant feature to me. Yesterday, I found myself using music and navigation for the first time since my late Friday 2.2 update. Now, it appears I have to choose what I want to hear. If music is playing and the navigation needs to give me instructions, it just stops the music altogether - it doesn't start back. OR I can mute the navigation instructions and just listen to the music. But they are working together the way they used to. I haven't received a phone call while playing/streaming music to see if this issue goes with that too. I'll check it at home tonight and see and report back.

I'm looking for something that pairs with the phone and a PC app that will keep track of how many times a play song and sync between the two and such. Sorta like Ipod software is an extension of the Itunes library. I realize that Itunes doesn't sync with the phone like that, nor the phone keeps track of such things.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using Google Calendar and syncing it to my Eris, and for some reason it's damn flaky. Half the time it works, but then if, say, I delete one event out of a recurring pattern from the phone,com.htc. provider. calendar crashes every time the phone tries to update its calendar! It will continually do this until I force stop it, reset the calendar storage and re-sync manually from Google's servers. That, and I've deleted a few events on calendar.google.com and have re-sync'd the phone manually a bunch of times and it won't seem to affect the data on the phone. I mean, it's nice to not have to pay for push calendar sync (like Apple asks you to with MobileMe), but c'mon Google & HTC. First the YouTube app never works on mobile network, Google Maps won't let you arbitrarily pick a location to map to, and this calendar syncing bs? These are things that should just work on a phone with the Google logo on the back.

View 5 Replies View RelatedIs there any way to play Streaming radio stations other than apps built for specific services (like Pandora/last.fm/slacker/imeem).To clarify, I mean online radio stations, that use .pls files to play streams. Some also have plugin players, but since Flash isn't on the Droid yet I'm not too worried about them. But it seems like it ought to be possible to play streaming .pls files.I tried to download one and it said it couldn't be downloaded because the size could not be determined.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have the car dock and love how the charging cable plugs into the dock so your not always plugging and unplugging it into the phone itself. You can just set it in the dock and go. Now the perfect scenario to me would be to be able to stream Slacker or MOG music from the X to the car stereo using Bluetooth. I currently have factory Bluetooth in the car, but is only for calls. I would like to get a new stereo with Bluetooth that would allow me to stream music to it in addition to using the X for Navigation. What I would like to know is how the sound quality will be? Is there anyone here currently doing this that can comment on the sound quality and let me know what deck you are using? I am REALLY hoping for success here so I can just drop the X into the car dock and go, without messing with any cables and still have very good sound quality.

Right now I use the application streamfurious to stream internet radio from shoutcast.com's website, an excellent source of thousands of radio links, to the droid. Now it would be sweet to be able to relay this again to another audio device. I have an auxiliary 3.5mm jack on my head unit in my car and I was wondering if anyone knew of any other device to convert that so it could stream through bluetooth. Theoretically I could just plug that into the phone but I hate wires. One other question... I know they say the data plan is unlimited but streaming music 24/7 would have a ridiculous amount of data usage. I think the cap is 5gb is this true??

View 2 Replies View Relatedwhen I want to stream one particular song I noticed that the Google Play Music app downloads and caches the previous/next few songs for quicker access. How can I prevent this? It uses a lot of data and I usually only want to listen to the one song I chose to stream.
For example if I play a 6 mb song i noticed it uses about 40 mb to stream just that one song. Then I selected a different song to stream and immediately went into settings > download queue and noticed it was loading more songs than the one I requested. I only want to listen to the 1 song I chose, so how can I prevent the other songs from loading? As far as I can see there is no way in the app's settings but there has to be another way to stop this inconvenience.
P.S. I have a T999 galaxy s3 running on stock rooted ICS
So I use my X to stream pandora/slacker and the droid media player through my ford sync bluetooth system. I am having two separate issues I am hoping someone can comment on.
The first is that pretty much every other time I try to stream music I do not get any sound. I have to reboot my phone for it to work. Everything is paired correctly and volume it turned up etc. This is my 2nd X and they both did the same thing. Happens on 2.1 and 2.2 leak
Second is that my steering wheel controls randomly work. Sometimes the music player doesn't skip sometimes it does. Also recently if I have pandora or slacker playing and I press the skip forward button on my steering wheel the droid music player starts and I get both slacker/pandora and the droid music player playing at the same time. I should also mention i am on the 2.2 leak.
I was looking for a bluetooth device that I can connect to my Home theater receiver. Size is not an issue as it will sit in the closet and will be running on AC power all the time. I would like to be able to stream a particular fm station (wbgo) on my eris. It's an NPR station that streams on the internet, but requires either realplayer, winamp or windows media player (it's also on itunes). All of the radio players I've seen or seen discussed here carry commercial stations (for example, iheartradio has Clear Channel stations).
View 7 Replies View RelatedI use StreamFurious pro to stream online radio to my Eris and love it except for two things. It takes awhile to buffer and start playing is one. But I consider this to be the nature of the beast. Since I am listening to Internet radio over a Cell network, I gotta take what I can get.
but, it is annoying that when I am listening and I get a call or a txt, the sound dies out and so I can hear the notification. Then, when I've ignored the call, (which I usually do), the stream has to re-buffer. Is there anyway to avoid this happening? It's esp. annoying with texts which don't require sound at all.
I have google voice and use it for every phone call I make. I heard that there were issues with several gvoice updates, so I haven't updated google voice since 0.2.8 and it is working just fine- every call connects, no problems. Is it worth updating to the newest version of google voice with push? For those of you with 2.1 on your Eris- does google voice work for you?

For other users that have switched from a Blackberry, what sorts of things should I be aware of that might have been something I took for granted on a Blackberry that might require more of a work around on a Droid? I'm trying to get fully integrated to google apps for simplicities sake. I know there's the Push email thing, but I'm hoping just using everything through GMail will help that problem. I transferred my calender to Gmail from my Blackberry by exporting it to a Yahoo in syncing, and then going to Yahoo and exporting it to Outlook CSV, and then importing the CSV to Google.

I have a vista machine that has about 400 gigs of music. we are a pc family so my media folders are shared via the wireless network. Is there an app/player that would allow me to browse my shared pc folders and playlist and allow me to stream this music and video? The closest I could find is an app called subsonic. Its not quite what im looking for. samsungs allshare is very basic. subsonic can be a bit complicated for folks that dont know how to set up port forwarding and static lan ip's and also, any apps that would let your phone control windows media player?

View 6 Replies View RelatedThe base radio on the Venza dominates. Toyota's new dedication to advanced consoles and tech is right on point. There's even a built in holder in the dash that secures my EVO upright, with a connection for my USB power cord. I even got the bluetooth music streaming to work. Awesome. I get into the car, and right away, it starts streaming my music right to the bluetooth stereo. That's where my brain melted.
I seem to only be able to play the album that I was currently listening to in the music app. I can switch tracks, but that's all I can seem to do from the car controls. The most frustrating part is, I have NO idea where to go for information. Toyota? They give simple instructions on how to get it started, but that's about it. I'm there already.
It's really an android thing, but it's kind of a fusion between the two. What functionality does Android expose for BT streaming, and which of those functions does the Toyota interface have a "hook" into? For that matter, it could be my inexperience with the EVO music player. Does it support playlists, linked playlists, random playlists, etc, etc. For that matter, can I download a different/better media player that will help me facilitate streaming better? Too many questions, and shockingly, Google isn't coming back with the detailed help I was expecting..........
I like to listen to live streaming radio (shoutcast) using different apps available. I want to know how I can make a bluetooth connection to my car bt system. I remember I did it once to my bt headset with my Hero but I don't remember how I did it. Also, a few times, my ringtone and keyboard clicks(with Hero) played through my car bt system but I have no idea how it happened. I didn't try to connect it. It just happened on it's own. If I remember correctly, to hook the streaming music to a bt headset you had to dial a pause (P) or dial ## and send it. The phone would make a connection and hang up right away. After that you were linked to the bt. But after the Hero update, that method didn't work anymore, the call would go through and you get a message saying "Can't be completed as dialed". So does anyone know a way of doing this with the Evo?

View 9 Replies View RelatedSo I had 2 versions of Gallery and Music Player when I was running 2.0.1 and downloaded the apk's for the 2.1 Gallery and Music apps. When I upgraded to 2.1 OS I figured the 2.0 apps would be wiped out. It appears that they have until you look deeper. I have only one icon for the stock music app but noticed that when I press the button on my headset it would start and pause music other than what was qeued in the music app.
When I go to 'manage apps' I have 2 music apps listed (both say ver 7). One is 580kb and the other 4kb, giving the impression that the 4kb version is nothing really, but there are definately two versions running at times hence the whole 2 different songs playing at once deal when I press the headset button. I'm reluctant to try deleting anything as I am not sure how I can verify that any of the files floating around right now for the music application are the current version and don't wanna complicate life if I delete something that causes a problem.
I tried running the ported HTC music app from xda yesterday on my BB v4 and got FC's. I'd love to have this on my phone since it plays genre's. Anybody have any success with this or have an updated version ready for froyo? Also, is there a way to get the CyanogenMod volume up/down music controls when the screen is off onto BB v4? It's really the only thing that I miss. I don't know the "rules" of ROM's sharing, etc. certain scripts or whatever.
