Not yet got my new Desire but I've watched several youtube clips showing fast and smooth browsing performance; I'm guessing these clips were showing phones connected over wifi. What's the browsing experience like on normal 3g when out and about? Is watching streaming video feasible for example?

When playing music or watching video using the headphones that came with it, there is a lot of crackling and hissing. If you go back to the home screen, there is a high pitched whistling sound (almost as if you've placed a microphone next to a speaker and are getting feedback as a result.) I can't seem to get any FM radio stations either. I've tried three different sets of headphones as well as the set bundled with the Desire and all have the same problem. Is this a known issue or should I phone O2 and get it replaced.

I notice there are a number of apps for dealing with turning off apps that are running in the background and using memory
1. Which is the best task killer app out there?
2. How much memory should you generally as a rule of thumb keep available at anytime?

I was trying to watch a live world cup game on my Desire today via the BBC website but had no joy? I also tried to watch highlights from a previous match and highlights from Rockness music festival but still no joy? Adobe does not support this was the warning i got but i thought the Desire supported this with its Adobe flash player? Very unhappy indeed as i wouldnt mind watching the world cup at work even if i shouldnt be ..

I watch quite a few .mp4's on my Desire, and I'll really like to turn off the the backlight behind the physical buttons if possible, not so much to aid battery life but for the factor they are a bit annoying if you're watching something in the dark. Is this possible? My device isn't rooted.

I search through the youtube app and search for random crap in HD but when I watch a video it comes out to be all grainy and crap. Is that what its suppose to look like? I'm using myPlayer to download videos to watch during my commute. Even though the myPlayer app recommends arcMedia to play the downloaded videos, I've found that the default Videos app works just fine, and is a bit better thanks to the Dolby Mobile sound.
However... after downloading the video to the phone, the video takes an age to show up in the Videos app's list. I can usually prod the app into re-scanning the SD card for videos my unmounting and remounting the card, but that's a bit of a pain. Does anyone know of a way of just getting the Videos app to have another look for new files?
(I know, it's not a major hassle to remount the SD card, but I'm an ex-iPhone guy and used to the 'it just works' way of doing things...

Watching a 30 min episode of a tv show, uses 25% of my Desire's battery life. Watching a 90 min movie uses 75% (funnily enough!)
Obviously, powering the lovely screen uses up a lot of juice. Just wondering whether there is any particular type of file that is more CPU intensive to decode and run, than others?
I currently use Mpeg 4 format. The program I use to convert my avi's to mpeg4, gives me different quality level options.
Would it make a difference to power consumption if I was to convert the avi's to a lower quality mpeg4 file?

So i have the Droid Incredible.I also have a 16gig class 6 MicroSDHC.I have movies at home. Avi's, mp4, mkv, etc.I created a "videos" folder on the root of my 16gig and place different types of video files there.I know the incredible can't view avi's, but it should be able to view MP4 as is, correct? Mine won't read them. I need to convert them with an app (forgot the name) and convert them to 3gp. They videos always end up so crappy and pixelated.

Yamb is a program I've been using to be able to change the .mov container of videos to .mp4. Basically, what I use it for is to download movie trailers off the iTunes store, and make them compatible to watch through my PS3 (or Xbox 360) on my 50" HDTV and my surround sound system. You can convert 720p or 1080p trailers to watch on your HDTV with absolutely no loss of video quality or audio quality. Not to mention the conversion process usually lasts anywhere from 5 to 10 seconds. Now, what do movie trailers have to do with my Samsung Vibrant 720p videos I recorded you may ask?Well, this same program makes your .3gp videos (the format the Vibrant records in) compatible to watch on your TV, via your PS3 or Xbox 360.

I did a search and did not come up with too much. But I was wondering if you can set up " watch in high quality " as the default setting when watching youtube videos? Had the Hero for over a week and mine is not laggy at all "swipies"and still loving it. Loads great no major issues at this time.Except always mis-spell words.

So here is the story. I'm at my local Sprint store fondling the new EVO and contemplating when I get an upgrade and maybe I should get one or should I wait or.Anyway, the phone was fully functional and on 3G, so I thought I would check out YouTube. I brought it up and searched out a video I had watched before and cued it up. When it played, and for whatever reason, it had super resolution and looked great, but it would not play more than a few seconds without stopping then starting, stopping and starting again, etc. I thought this was pretty weird, so holding the EVO in my other hand, I pulled out my Hero and cued up the same exact YouTube video. When the vid played on the Hero the video guality and resolution were not as good as the EVO's, but it played perfectly and seamlessly all the way through, no starting and stopping at all.

I am a bit of a novice but have managed to work a lot of things out about my HTC desire through this website but I am struggling with playing online TV and videos as well as downloading films onto my phone. Firstly I am a fan of channel 4 on demand and I tried to watch something a box comes up which says- 'shockwave flash- there is not enough free memory to display this flash content' -
Does this simply mean that I need a bigger micro SD card as I have only got the 4GB one enclosed with the phone, if it is as simple as that then could get an 8 or 16 GB microcard? Next problem is watching online films (for example from blinkbox.com), I can watch these on my laptop but my phone wont play them- do I have to install a special player to get these to work?
And finally I am right in thinking there is not an app like the iphone in which you can click and buy movies on the HTC desire? If not how do I download movies onto my phone or maybe download them on my laptop and transfer them to my phone?

This just started happening recently: ill be watching videos in high quality, then all of a sudden ill click to watch another video and go through the menu to set it to high quality and only get home page and settings (high quality is supposed to be the third option).
I have connection, etc but the option just decides not to show up and the only way I got it back the last few times its done it is by turning the phone off/on. Anybody else run into this or am I missing something?

So lately, I've been converting some videos to mp4 so that I can watch during my travels. I'm just using the generic player and access my video files through "Photo" I sorted the files by Name, but when i go to Photo to view my videos i realise the Videos are not sorted. So it doesn't go in number like 1,2,3, instead it's a jumble. Is there a way I can sort this? Also why does it do this?

I use a little application on my computer called iPlayer Downloader. Basically it lets me download BBC iPlayer programmes as either mp3 or mp4 files. However when I copy one of the mp4 files to my Desire it plays but without audio. I've tried other mp4 files - one downloaded direct from YouTube and another via ZamZar and they work (as do the mp3's it produces of radio shows).I assume it's something to do with the audio format, but on the above the only difference on the non-working one is the Stereo format

I've travelling soon and plan to bring some anime along to watch. What is the max resolution of videos I can convert to? I saw that the max resolution of the Desire is 480 x 800 but my video conversation software(any video converter) does not provide such an option. I googled and read on somewhere else that its 720 x 480. I am planning for MP4 format as I need to save space since my Desire only came with 2 gig and i want to maximize the amount of videos I can get. Would MP4 be the best choice? or like WMV or 3GP?

I have just upgraded from an iPhone to the HTC Desire. I was looking forward to being able to play flash videos, after trying to play a few (from entensity.net) I can see the player, but pressing play results in only a yellow exclamation mark... Is there a solution to this or is flash support not quite there yet on android? (Btw according to the settings menu on the phone all software is up to date.)

When I transfer HTC Desire videos from phone to computer, I can view the video but with no sound. This also happened with my old Touch HD. The sound works fine on the phone but the problem seems to be with the video. Has anyone else experienced this? It happened on both Windows 7 and XP. I have noticed the file type is .3gp. Does this need converting or something?
