HTC Desire :: Stuttering During Playback
Oct 19, 2010
I use MP3's imported to 320kb quality. Lately my Desire is stuttering during playback, the song will stop for anything from a fraction of a second to 2-3 seconds, then carry on. I've reformatted my card and put everything back on but it still does it. Has anyone else encountered this? I'm sure it didn't do it originally, but lately it's happening a lot. I've read about the headphone socket occassional problem, but this stuttering occurs even if I use the phone speaker. Do I need a faster card if my MP3's are at this quality? I'd be surprised, because most MP3 songs available to buy are now offered at this quality.

I was just wondering how people play their video files as I cannot find a media player on the Desire. I am currently using a file manager app and then selecting the file, but I would have thought the phone had some kind of standard app installed that would let me browse and play my content.

Been struggling with this since receiving my X. Seems like no matter what player I use the playback is jerky. It's very subtle, almost as if the video is dropping a frame or so every second. I've tried the stock player, Astro, Rockplayer, mPlayer, Zimly, Act, and the list goes on and the problem still persists.
I've encoded (using handbrake) with all of the settings suggested on the boards and have tweaked things on my own trying to find the proper setting, but still no luck. The strange and frustrating thing is that the exact same files play just fine on my 1st gen iPod touch (clearly an inferior piece of hardware) and on my wife's incredible. These encodes are of standard def DVDs at average settings (a full movie is about 1.3gb, all h.264 mp4 files.
I was able to improve playback by rebooting the X and then playing the video, but this doesn't seem like an acceptable solution every time I want to watch something. I tend to encode and watch a lot of stuff on my commute to/from work, and I'd really like to replace my touch with the X, but the media capabilities are falling way short. Considering switching to the Inc as I know it's able to play my media properly, but I'd prefer to keep the X for the larger screen size (though the Inc does seem to feel better when using one-handed). I'm on the fence right now, but if the X can't function as expected then it might be going back. Unfortunately I only have until the 1st to return it so I don't think I can hold out and see if 2.2 fixes this issue.

How can I stop personal ringtones (like custom message tones etc) to stop appearing as a song in my song list, as they are considerably louder than a song and when they come blaring through my car stereo (bluetooth) its rather annoying.I use TuneWiki because the standard player will not accept my car stereo' skip forwards button, it sort of fast forwards, which is a bit crap, but oh well

Anyway I have a couple of video's I'd like to watch and the only way is through photo's widget/program I know there are other players on the market, so what I need is one that has good functionality like being able to playback with repeat similar to windows media player. Don't need a player that needs a browser open to function or using up system resources.

Just got my long awaited Desire. US Cellular CDMA Desire Version. When I playback a video the picture quality is terrible. The movements lag, big time. [B]With being new I have a couple of question, as to why this is happening or is it normal?
1. Do I need a different software (app) for playback of videos?
2. Do I need to download some sort of plug in?
3. Is it because, I don't have Froyo 2.2 yet?
As most of you have had the HTC Desire for sometime, as we just got them in the USA; I was hoping someone could chime in and help me.

Just wondering if anyone had managed to get the HTC desire to play nice with a Bury cc9060 car kit. In relation to music playback (it handles voice calls wonderfully) But I assumed as they both use a2dp it?d work with music playback, but no joy. Just wondering if it?s something I?m doing wrong (the desire is not listed by bury in the compatibility list but as I said it works fine with voice (although it can?t read back texts like it could with a nokia)

I'm in the process of wring a music player that can play SID tracks (music from the Commodore 64), and everything is progressing nicely, except that I sometimes get audio stuttering. The stuttering only happens when the player is in the background, and another application has focus. It's most noticeable when a cpu heavy app(like Google Earth) is running in the foreground.I have tried adjusting the priority of my thread and increasing the AudioTrack buffer size, but nothing has solved the stuttering problem.I believe the problem is that generating the audio takes quite a lot of cycles (I'm at 15-30% cpu load), and that my audio thread is being starved and cant keep up with AudioTrack's constant need for data.I'm must be doing something wrong, I can't imagine that gui threads should be able to starve a high priority audio thread.I hope someone have some ideas on how to get my player stutter free, as I'm at a loss :)

How can I minimize the stuttering of my graphics?I am using MANY ImageView's in my program (and JUST ImageView's). I change their positions directly, when I need to change them without using "onDraw" to redraw everything. Is it ok, If I do not overwrite onDraw? I have in average 10 objects which I added to the mainscreen-layout.These 10 objects are 5 trees and 5 flowers. The trees and flowers have 5 different states and therefore 5 different ImageViews which I all added to the layout, whose just are invisible. So I have about 50 ImageViews added to my main screen When one of these objects changes its state, I just make its ImageView invisible and the ImageView of the new state visible. Is it ok to do it like that?I realized that if I just use one ImageView for every object and change the ressource of it when its state changes, all objects, which are currently added to the mainscreen-layout, change their position to (0;0). That was the reason, I have so many ImageView's added to the mainscreen-layout.Is there a better solution for that?

I've taken a few vids on my Desire, but the 3gp format is pretty limited and what I'd like to do is play it back on my PS3.
Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations about what software to use and what format to convert the 3gp file to in order for same size same quality playback on PS3?

we all know there are problems with stuttering and skipping in Pandora. Here's some proof of what's going on when it happens. I hooked up my phone and grabbed the system log as I started Pandora and easily got it to stutter and skip. I added notes as to what what happening at each step.Perhaps this log will raise some awareness of the problem and if we're lucky all this will make it back to Sprint and Samsung and get fixed soon.

Surprisingly I can't find any other threads about this. Does everyone here experience some sort of lag or stuttering when flipping through homescreens? If so, have any of you figured out a way to make it smoother? It also happens with the slideout trays on the homescreen.

I was playing some music today while doing some yardwork and i noticed it was stuttering at the beginning of just about every track it played. I listened to about 12-14 songs and it stuttered in the beginning on about 8 of them, somtimes it would also stutter a few seconds after that but would be fine after that until it went to the next song. Anyone else have this issue? I've got all the apps closed with advanced task manager, so nothing is running and eating up the processor or memory. Any ideas what would cause this or a remedy for it? Any help is appreciated.

I am having issues with the music player, the music was crackling badly, I thought it was the headphones so I tried 3 different pairs and the same thing happened, it kept stuttering in the middle of songs. I am not at all happy about that. My mp3 player worked perfectly with the same music files, they are WMP files not mp3 because to me mp3 sounds compressed to shit. I said to because the sound quality blows away any mp3 player and when it isn't stalling and breaking up. I am considering flashing with Odin today and swapping it for number 3. I have not spilled anything on my phone or dropped it, I am so careful with it and I am curious if anyone else has this problem or does mine have a defect. I love this phone and really want to stick with it. I would like to use it for music because the sound when working is amazing. If it is a defect in my phone I will swap for another.

What is the best format to playback video through the HDMI onto the tv? It claims you can stream it in 720p to the tv, but I can't get any better than 480p. I'm using the old iphone 3gs format. mp4 480x320.

I have some videos that I have encoded for use on my iPod. I'd love to get them working on the DI; however, only the audio works when they videos are going. Tried it using the stock video player and the Act 1 player. I converted them using Handbrake as mp4 videos. I have been poking around with different settings for about an hour now and nothing has worked.

One issue that I can't seem to remember being a problem on my G1 is that I can still hear notifications while music, video, or the FM Radio is being played back. Obviously, I can't really test the FM Radio bit on my G1, but I'm certain that this wasn't an issue when playing music or watching videos (including YouTube). It wouldn't be much of a problem if the notification didn't completely mute the sound of whatever else I'm doing for however long it plays. Anyone else notice this? Is there a work around I'm not seeing in the settings?

That would be nice video player if you could play compressed divx movies without encoding them in a program to h264 or mp4.One way I know you can play divx on a G1 Phone is to take your Divx movie and convert it using a program called XvidforPsp then put the video settings for the screen resolution for the androids phone or just select apples iphone presets and encode the video in h264 or mp4 then move the file to your memory card and open it in video player.I did this and it works great for watching your divx movies on a G1.Just whish i didnt have to do the extra steps.

Question about video playback. Do you have to convert everything to .3GP ? I drop some movies onto the SD card and play them just fine. Then went back to play them it was REALLY choppy. Not exactly sure what is causing this. I would rather not covert everything to a different codec.
