View 7 RepliesFor no reason it losses signal and refuses to connect to internet! I then close it down which takes 15mins and sometimes it still don't work! Why is this happening? Should i go back to T-Mobile?

Also when i try to watch a vid on the bbc i player app im getting a msg saying that im connected via edge or gprs and i need to view via wifi or 3g. Im in a 3g area as the people beside me in work can get a good 3g signal via O2 also.

My signal strength fluctuates wildly just sitting in the same spot. With the Hero I got a constant 5 of 6 bars, but the Moment will vary between 0 and 5 of 6 bars. But it's more complicated than that.
It seems that whenever the EVDO data kicks in, it causes the signal strength to drop to 0 or 1 bar. Once the data is idle, the EVDO indicator turns grey and then changes from EV(^v) to EV(D). At that point the single strength will return to 3 or 4 bars.
At times, though not as consistently or often, the EVDO connection will fall back to 1xRTT and will switch between them every few minutes. This will occur even when the signal strength bars are in the 3 to 4 range.
So, the my questions are...
Does the signal strength apply to the data signal or just the voice signal?
Is there any legitimate reason for the signal strength to vary wildly like I've described, even when sitting in the same recliner where the Hero had a constant 5 bar connection and data service that never wavered?
Is anyone else having signal strength and/or data service issues?
Should I exchange the Moment for another Moment or will I likely experience the same issue?
My Desire has started acting strangely today. Wifi works OK, phone signal works OK, what doesn't seem to work all of a sudden is the data signal. Any data signal, 3G, HDSPA or even GPRS - there is no icon in the notification bar and no access to the mobile internet.
I've tried:
* rebooting my phone
* turning APN and on again with and without Wifi
* checking my APN settings (OK)
* reinstalling the newest radio (one that ends in 20 - was working fine up to now)
* reinstalling my version of 2.2 (Defrost 2.5a)
* checking my carrier's site to see if there are any probs (Virgin Mobile)
* Oh and I've travelled about 50 miles today on my commute from outside London to central London with no signal at any time so I assume it isn't a local antenna problem.
All to no avail. II first noticed it at 0700 this morning - so it has now been like this for nearly 12 hours. The icon and connection remains stubbornly off. If I wasn't getting wifi or signal I would be really worried, but the fact that I can fills me with hope that it is either a setting or user error.
So my Desire's been working perfectly since I got it on Saturday. Today I've noticed that it's not using mobile data. Not an issue at home with my wi-fi or at work* but it's irritating. I haven't changed any settings and triple checked that every box that should be checked is. Anyone else with a Desire having this problem? Is there a T-mobile hiccup today?
Though I can't see how it would make a difference, today was the day my old number got ported over. Oh. They mentioned there would be connectivity problems during the transition period.
Even when wifi is turned off, the mobile network gives this message "Use phone for data connection when wifi is unavailable".
My wifi is turned off and the 3G connection is also strong. With this issue, I cannot access the internet as the browser or the app says that there are connection issues
I am using my HTC Desire on virgin mobile and quite often find that it reports an HSPDA connection but no data appears. I checked the APN settings and I did not have proxy or port number, I now put in 193.30.166.4:8080. So I have 2 questions
Firstly what are the correct complete set of setting for virgin internet and MMS on Desire?
Secondly will these settings help solve the intermittent data issue, if not what will?
anyone else on O2 unable to get any data connection this morning?my APN says its connected, but I cant use the internet, market, email etc this morning?I have done several reboots and tried putting it in and out of airplane mode.It was working fine when I went to bed last night. I turned APNs off overnight.
View 16 Replies View RelatedTook my HTC Desire to Italy and since then have lost all mobile data connections - though works fine on WiFi. Switched on airplane mode for flights, and switched off data roaming to reduce overseas costs. But when switched back on to use internet couldn't get any network connection. Now back in the UK still same issue - no internet, and cannot send MMS picture messages - even when in strong 3G signal Tried all the options I can find but no joy at all.
View 4 Replies View RelatedUnbranded, fully updated (2.1-update1), Desire. Three months old. No task killers installed. Just this past couple of days I've noticed it has not been showing the data connection symbol in the top bar, next to the signal strength bars. Try and connect to the internet or the market and get a 'failed' pop up window asking to either retry of cancel. Retry never works.
I go into settings > Wireless & Networks and disable Mobile Network, then enable it again and it flickers on then goes off again. Repeat this and it stays on for a while but always goes off again after about 20 minutes even though the Mobile Network is ticked green. Why is this happening? I'm missing emails because of this and it's a bit of a pain.
Does it use data connection or can it be used offline?

I downloaded it the other day and first thought it was great, certainly improved my battery life, but after a while i noticed that i kept losing my data connection even with the screen switched on, and also as soon as i finish a phone call, i loose my data connection and it takes ages for it to reconnect! anyone else had experience of this, or does anyone know of a similar app i could try?

Do you guys leave mobile internet on then use a data connection toggle like on switch pro to enable disable as and when you like? Or do you use a toggle like curvefish apn to rename and automatically connect to the network? Or do you turn it on and off via settings or the power button as and when you need it? Bit lost on the subject to be honest. Also when I go and turn mobile internet on in the settings under it it says something like connect to mobile internet when WiFi is unavailable. Is this the default setting or can it be changed to only connect when I want it to?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI would like advice from those with 2.2 on Orange. I've had my Desire for 2 months now and love it-apart from one thing-the damned Internet connection. Quite often, with a strong 3G+ (HSDPA) signal, my internet connection fails to load data. Then, a few minutes later, in the same location, it works perfectly. I know for a fact that this is not a network only problem. The reason I know this is because I previously used the exact same SIM in my iphone for 6 months in the very same locations and it always worked perfectly.
Therefore, my strong suspicion is that the problem is a result of the combination of the Orange branding on a Desire and the network itself. I'm sure I read of a couple of posters here who had the very same problems and when they moved to 2.2 the problem disappeared. Can anyone confirm? I've been waiting patiently for the Orange update to 2.2 but am getting fed up and I'm concerned that the Orange bloatware may still cause an issue after this. Hence, I'm considering a debrand and update myself.
My HTC Desire (UK) has been find ever I had it, no issues whatsoever. Recently updated the Android software and ever since then I can only access the web/market etc when connected through wifi.
My signal bar simply shows bars whereas in the past it had either a G, 3G or H next to it, and I'm guessing this is linked into the problem.
Is anyone else not getting a mobile internet connection right now? This has happened before on Orange but it's different this time because my phone doesn't seem to be searching for a network to join (before in the settings it would say "searching" or something and be greyed out but not this time)
Hopefully it's just a network problem, rather than my phone
I've managed to fix it i think. It would seem something I installed (im thinking SwitchPro Widget) changed the APN name in the settings to orangeinternet_off.
What's the technical term for being able to have voice connection and data connection simultaneously? Like AT&T was promoting heavily for a while.Apparently, the new T-Mobile Vibrant has this capability. A friend got one and was accessing the web while talking to me, double jealous now.I have benn lusting after the Verizon version, Fascinate, and wondering if there is any chance it will as well.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have used my Hero in 2 different countries and I get the same problem: Regardless of signal connection, I miss half (a guess) of all calls made to me. People tell me it finally dials after a few straight-to-voicemail tries. This didn't happen with any of my previous phones (Nokias and Motos), in both of the aforementioned countries. I really hope my rubber case has all to do with this because I bought the phone from eBay (i.e. no warranty).
View 17 Replies View RelatedNew to Eris and have set up Wifi to connect to home router (Verizon FIOS Actiontec). Successfully connected (accepted WEP) but get very weak signal and then lose connection. I've turned off "Mobile Network" but still have this problem. I am one room away from router and receive full signal on iMac and printer but only a dot under the Wifi symbol on the Eris. Exchanged a Motorola Droid (which received and held full signal -- as did my prior iPhone)) for Eris. VZW tech support clueless and immediately sent me to HTC support. While they tried (had some not very good explanations -- battery not pushing enough power) still nothing working. Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated -- this is the only downside right now.

I got a big problem cause every time i turn my phone into standby i loss my connection to internet and also i loss my mobile signal. after unlock my screen i have 2 enter my pin , i can only phone emergency. when i enter my pin, the phone reconnect and i got signal. i tried nearly every update, i flashed stock ROM and re-flashed cm10, nothing better.

My N1's been working perfectly since I bought it from Google in January... until today. I have a good signal and can make / receive voice calls and texts. However, I'm not getting any data and no 3G / 2G etc. icon is showing on the bar next to the signal strength icon. I've tried going in and out of airplane mode, going to 2G only, rebooting, removing battery and reseating the SIM and SD cards.
Vodafone have confirmed there's no issue on their side (other Vodafone users nearby have aren't having problems) and have even swapped my SIM with no effect. I phoned the HTC help line (very quick and helpful BTW), who tried setting up a new manually defined APN. Nothing's worked.

I have an app that downloads some images and I have found that on GPRS or on 3G with weak signal that this download process slows up the app unacceptably. What I want to do is say that if you have either WIFI or a strong and fast data connection then download; otherwise display a default placeholder image.
I'm writing an app to monitor detailed radio data coming off the phone that I'm sending back to my own server that is collecting this information from a number of different devices. The purpose is to analyze the data from all devices, and generate a kind of "real-time network coverage" pattern.
The data I'm looking for is "Eb/No". From what I understand this is interchangeable with the term "Ec/Io". My first approach lead me to the new Signal Strength (http://developer.android.com/reference/ android/telephony/SignalStrength.html) support in Android 2.1. This is great, however you can only get Ec/Io values for "CDMA" and "EVDO" networks. My problem is that I'm on ATT, where I'm "WCDMA".
I was hoping Android would give me the "CDMA" values from Signal Strength changes (since "WCDMA" is somewhat similiar to "CDMA"), however the update has the gsm flag set to true, and it's giving me values for the gsm signal strength and gsm bit error rate instead.

I've noticed that even when I have 3g or 4g, certain apps never connect to the Internet. The apps I've noticed that have this problem are sound Hound, Google now search, spotify and words with friends. These apps will fail to connect to the Internet and say I have no signal, yet I can open Google Chrome and open a Web page no problem (even pages I don't visit that aren't stored in cache) or use the Chive app.

Any reason why i would no longer have network/data connection? The 3g icon is missing. my mobile network is in fact enabled and it was working fine about an hour ago. any ideas on how to fix this?
