HTC Desire :: Enable Youtube Player Instead Of HTC Flash Player
May 4, 2010
I recently upgraded from a G1 to a Desire.
One feature that's bugging me on the Desire, the default application for Youtube videos seems to be the HTC Flash Player, but I don't want to use this. I would prefer it if it opened with the Youtube player so I can get high quality video when viewing Youtube clips on WIFI - the HTC Flash Player has no settings or option for video quality improvement.
On my G1, every time I opened a link for Youtube (from e.g. the browser or Seesmic), it opened up the Youtube application as the default viewer.

Just tested data receiving on both, a 57 second clip (of King Crimson!) used only 0.6 mb on the YouTube app, the same clip used 2.3mb on the flash, that's nearly 4 times as much. what reason is there for using the flash player at all? not running 2.2, locked to Orange network.

Seems as if half the video's I try to watch lately will not play in the built in youtube app. And when I attempt to watch it through the browser. It states that I need an upgraded version of Flash player.

I was on my Vibrant looking for highlights for a soccer game on youtube. When I clicked on a user's channel, the actual youtube flash player loaded. Not the phone's youtube player, but the actual in-page youtube player. That is flash, right? My phone is still on 2.1, how can this be possible?
This is the channel:
YouTube - Freddyazulful's Channel
I haven't been able to recreate it with any other channels, but I can do it with this one every time.

Now we have 2.2 we should have access to Flash Player 10.1, correct? I can't seem to find it in the market... Searching for "Flash Player" doesn't find it, and com.adobe.flashplayer claims not to exist. Am I being ******ed, or is it not there at the moment?

Today I carried out check to see if any updates were available. Much to my excitement I noticed that 2.2 was there so I carried out the download. I now have WiFi hotspot, flashtorch, 720p camcorder and applications sharing available in my apps list. The problem stems when I go to view just in TV or BBC iplayer and I am told that my device does not support flashplayer. I have checked and adobe flashplayer is there when I go to manage applications. When I click on it takes me into it but all options to click on are shaded and I cant do nothing about it.

Basically I was trying out the appbrain app the other day which suggests apps to download. One of these recommendations was to update my flash player 10.1. I did this as suggested but it ate up about 10mb of my internal memory! Leaving me with that dreaded 'low on space' message. Anyway I uninstall the update and all was well. But now when i go on the market it downloads automatically and its really annoying me. So... do I need it? What's the benefit? And how do I make it go from downloaded apps tab in market?

Do you think that the this app is useful? I mean it takes up 14mb and for non-rooted users its Difficult. What can you do and what can you not do with adobe flashplayer? And where do I reinstall it if I were to unistall? I'm really fighting for memory even when I'm using the install apps to sd.

Am I right in thinking that the Music Player on the Desire is HTC's own?
Is there a default Android player?
I only ask as I think the current one that is default installed on the phone is poor, very poor. I use another app to play podcasts and even with the 'hide podcasts from default player' option ticked, they still show up in the music player.

I have gotten both the Flash Player and Flash Lite APK's, and I have been trying to install them on the Droid. Flash Player refuses to install on stock 2.1. Flash Lite installs, but after install I can not connect to the internet (Nothing connects, Skype, market, random app, browser.)
So I wanted to know if anyone wanted to do some testing with them, to see if you can get them running on the ROM you are running. Maybe we will be able to make fun of iDevices earlier, because Droid Does what iDont
Flash Lite: FlashLitePlugin.apk
Flash Player: FlashPlayer.apk

How do you get the Incredible to open up the youtube player when you tapping on a youtube vid on a webpage? Right now mine opens up the HTC flash player to play it.. I would rather have it open the youtube player for the full screen high quality experience like my moto droid did.

I've created an app that plays kids videos from YouTube that I've found to be appropriate for children (hasn't been published yet). I've currently searched and found 60+ videos that would be ok and the list would certainly increase over time.
The app doesn't use the YouTube player so that the child cannot find inappropriate videos after watching their selection. Using the back button will only get them back to the app and when the video is done playing it will also return to the app. The app wouldn't have ads either. So, it is a little safer way to turn a kid loose allowing them to watch videos.

There is an issue i am having with the youtube app since my froyo 2.2 install on my HTC Evo. Not only does it randomly drop videos in the youtube app, i does the same thing when i navigate to youtube on the web. also, I tried to connect when on my Wifi at home, and i get the same errors.
The error occurs while loading the video, then it says there was a problem loading the video. Some videos will load, then error out during the vid.

I have code that will bring up a Youtube video on their webpage and the user has to then tap the play option to play it:
CODE:..............
This works fine but what I would really like is to have the video come up in the player on the phone immediately without the user ending up on the webpage and having to tap the play option.

Just tried out xscope for the first time last night, the best browser out there! Its pretty awesome, however I cannot get it to launch the YouTube player to play YouTube videos OR download them, any workaround for this? I only get a "play video or download" dialog when trying to play a YouTube clip and neither work.

I've seen an issue now on both Chevy's and Pete's ESE53 ROMs.
I play a video using the youtube player, and the video locks up, touchscreen and phone buttons non-responsive, and then the phone reboots.
I did a full wipe/reset and installed all apps from the market when I installed Pete's ROM, so it's not due to a messy setup...
Doesn't happen every time, but very frequently. Last night I played some or all of three videos, no issue. This morning tried one and my phone locked up/rebooted within the first five seconds of the video.

I'm a Flash developer trying to run Flash apps inside Android/HTC Hero. AFAIK, there's no official Adobe Flash Player for Android and I know the Flash player that is in the Hero is HTC's, but the information out there is really scarce.
I've managed to create an app that runs SWF files following this tutorial:
http://www.flashmobileblog.com/2009/08/12/flash-development-with-andr...
I have a some technical questions (why it only runs on landscape mode, any chance to test Flash apps in the emulator, how can a Flash app communicate with the Android app it's embedded in), but I'm not sure this is the right place to ask.
To wrap up, has anyone on the list any info regarding Flash and Android? Is this something the Open Handset Alliance could sort out with Adobe (via the Open Screen Project) to release a Flash player within all Android devices and not only HTC's?

I was browsing the android market and I found that Flash Player 10.1 was one of the apps for download on there. I was wondering if this was different from version of flash that came with the 2.2 froyo update. Is this download necessary or not needed cause its the same as the flash update with froyo?
