I'm based in Canada. When i got my htc desire the telus rep said that htc was doing a $50 rebate, but knew nothing about how or where you go to get it. Anyone know about this mail in rebate? what is required? where to send?

I have a hotmail.co.uk account set up on the HTC mail app with a widget on my home screen. The only problem with this its that i receive emails straight away i can access any attachments and view the majority of them which is great, however when i try to send, it attempts then after a minute or so it comes up unable to send mail. i have tried changing the priority of these emails for high to low but have no luck. My settings are:
incoming
Protocol: POP
POP server: pop3.live.com
security type: SSL
server port: 995
Outgoing
SMTP server: hotmail.co.uk
Security type: SSL
server port: 465
I have just received my HTC desire, and setting up my email settings. I have three different email accounts, and set them all up. I set up the incoming server settings all fine, but when I put in the details for the outgoing server settings, and press NEXT button, I get the following each time: 'Cannot connect to the mail server to verify your account information. Your server is not responding.' This happens on all three accounts. I have used the same settings as on my computer which works when sending the emails on my computer. I finish the setting it up, but ofcourse I can receive emails, but can't send any.
View 10 Replies View RelatedYahoo Mail. Looks pretty but wont download attachments and has no way to log out so there's no way to secure the account. Worst of all it screwed up the on-off switch and incoming calls wouldn't turn the phone on.(how I don't know) and required a hard reset to fix.

What you need?

- WIFI Tether for Root Users - link android-wifi-tether - Project Hosting on Google Code
- SDCard WIFI Access - Available on market
What others need?
A Phone with WIFI

Computer with WIFI
This is how you do it.
- Start WIFI Tether and ask the other person to connect to the Adhoc connection.
- This person should show connected to your phone now.
- Open the app SD Card WIFI Access, this will show you two IP addresses. One would be an IP for the Mobile Network and another for your phone. Provide the phone IP address (should be example 192.168.xxx.xxx:8180)
- Ask the person to type the IP address in the browser and ensure they put the port number 8180
- If you followed the steps correctly the person will now see your SD card contents on their phone or the computer browser.
A click on any file will send the file to their phone at >1MBPS

When I do this, the chooser comes up and gives all kinds of choices, for anything that can handle text/plain i assume, because there's stuff in there that doesn't support "e-mail". How can I make it so that it will only show applications that support email (gmail, mail, yahoo mail, etc...) and not stuff like "Bluetooth", "Facebook", etc...
Is there an app for my Droid X that will allow me to send mail with my alias?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a brand new Desire HD. Up until 2 days ago, everything was working perfectly with my Outlook Exchange Account on the native Android Mail application. Running Android 2.2
Since then, there is something wrong with our Outlook certificate, and when I launch Outlook on my PC, I get a message that the name on the certificate is not valid. Ok, fine. So on the PC, I press "OK" and I am off and running.
On the Desire, I still get email, but if I try to SEND and email, it neither reaches the recipient, nor does the email end up in the "Sent" mail folder. When I go to "Accounts and Sync" and look at the Exchange account, I also see that i have a sync protocol error on Contacts syncing.
Now, I have installed Touchdown, and I CAN send email from here. Also, I have a friend who has an older Android phone that does not seem to be affected in a similar fashion connecting to the same exchange server.
Problem: The Touchdown app is kind of a pain from a user interface standpoint when you try to edit a contact. and it costs $20. And, I really prefer the native Mail widgets and stuff.
I am stuck using Touchdown at the moment so that I can send and receive emails, but I am hoping to find a workaround. Our IT people are working on the certificate problem, so maybe that will help. HOWEVER, I cannot afford to be without email every time there is a certificate problem.
My friend just lost his Desire at an airport. The pattern lock is active, but that does nothing but protect the data on the phone - Not SD. The first thing they would do is to switch the phone off and replace the sim.
Now here is my question : Is there an app that will send an sms to a preallocated number if the phone is booted up with a different sim? I know some Samsung phones can do this. But having an app that requires your own sim to be able to find it if stolen is quite pointless.
a couple of my apps on the market say manual update required. i try and update it, it starts the download but then it says installation unsucessful all the time. I can easily download and update most apps its just some where it says manual update required.

I have a full page (4x4) to fill, and would like something that shows either a scrolling list or a collection of thumbnails of the sites. The stock Android widget only shows 6 thumbnails (non scrolling) and the HTC Bookmarks widget will only show 6 bookmarks, 5 of which are links to Orange webpages that STILL show after I deleted them! I have a fairly short list of about 10 bookmarks, stored by Dolphin, and I want quick access to them from my homescreen without placing individual icons.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm new to these forums as I'm very new to using an HTC Desire Android phone. As a previous iPhone owner I was a little nervous to port over but, I've been extremely pleased with my new android handset and OS. However one thing has been driving me crazy. The other day i decided to ring my voice mail and found that I had 3 missed voice mails. No where on the home screen of my phone or settings screens or anywhere else I looked on my phone was I notified of my Voice Mails. I rely quite heavily on accessing my Voice mails as the building I work in has terrible reception. In the past using my iPhone I could enter an area of the building that had better reception and the notification would arrive. I need this functionality, especially as at the moment I'm trying to get a new job, I'd be a little upset if I were to miss a golden opportunity due to no voice mail notification. I tried a few tests with my handset to make sure I wasn't loosing the plot and sure enough I do not receive any notification for my missed calls or as I mentioned earlier no reception problem straight to voice mail. The idea of having to phone 901 every time i need to check my voice mails seems a little absurd, this is 2010 surely as it is primarily first and foremost a phone I would suspect that you would be able to have this functionality. I've searched the net and there's not much talk on how to fix this problem. Sure there's talk on use an App but I'd like that as my last resort really.
This may or may not have been mentioned on these forums, I have done a search before hand and results were blank so I apologies if this has been covered. Please Please Please any one here with infinite wisdom on this matter would be a breath of fresh air.
My environment is:
1 Exchange Account - Push
1 IMAP (Gmail) - 2 hourly
1 POP (Hotmail) - Once daily
My issue is that I am receiving alerts for the same new mail repeatedly. Here's the gist:
11:50 - New mail hits my inbox.
12:00 - I receive a notification of the new email.
12:05 - I check my inbox, but choose not to open the email at this time.
14:00 - I get a notification of a 'new' email, yet on checking it's the one received at 11:50, but still haven't opened.
15:00 - Rinse and repeat. Now, I'm not sure how many times this is happening, or even if it's everytime, but there's something definitely glitchy with mail notifications.Has anybody else noticed similar behaviour? If not I may try removing/adding my accounts back in again.
I cant send emails from my phone! i have asked this question a coupple of times and no-one will help. i can recive my emails via the htc mail app but i cant send them, i am using hotmail, and i am on vodafone please can somone find me some settings that work because i cant.

I have been using my old and faithful HTC touch for the past 3 years and just 2 days ago decided to get the HTC Desire. So far i am very pleased with it and getting through the initial adjustment phase very well. I will like to ask a few questions:
First, i have a few useful work documents on my old HTC touch that was opened with tomeraider, are there any free apps that can open them on the HTC desire?
Secondly, i have already added my gmail account to the HTC desire but i would like to also add my main yahoomail account too . This is my most frequently used email account and it contains a zillion emails that i would not want to synchronize to the phone each time . I guess they will just take up valuable space in the phone so is there a way of only allowing new email to enter my phone.
Finally, i have ordered a new 16gb card from ebay, when this comes, can i just directly copy the data from the current 4 gb card to the new card via my PC and everything works fine after that?
Having some problems with a pop email account - have set up so that it will receive ok but when I try and send I get the message "non local ip cannot send from this phone.

A colleague got one before me and one thing that he reported was that after the Froyo update he could not send pictures in the stock Mail app. I have replicated this. No matter the picture size, it will not send through the Maill app. Gmail works fine for this. My colleague says it worked before, but has broken on 2.2. Has this issue come up before? I couldn't find any threads for it. It's very annoying, because one of the main uses we have for the phone is to snap pictures of machines in the field and send them back to the office. Any help would be appreciated.
View 6 Replies View RelatedSo I emailed myself a few pictures the other day and I received an error message saying 'can't send email, account settings are incorrect' in the notification bar. I send a test email from my phone to another email address and i got it just fine and I send an email to my phone and got it just fine as well.. The frustrating part is that I get that 'cant send email' notification every 30 minuntes and it sounds just like Im getting a text so its even more annoying and I cant stop it.
Anyone have this problem or know how to fix it?
Javamail is not compatible with SDK 1.5. Do you know other ways I can send mail automatically?
View 2 Replies View Relatedso today my htc desire has decided that it won't send any text messages.phone calls work, signal is fine, but whenever i send a text it just buzzes and says it's unable to send. i last successfully sent a text yesterday (20th may) at 23:39. haven't installed any apps since or anything like that.i am very frustrated. this is basic stuff here that a phone should be able to do. anyway, eventually it gives up and tells me:"Unable to send message after multiple attempts."

View 4 Replies View RelatedYesterday my Dinc started to post a message that it is "unable to send mail" via my Hotmail account. It has a script that you go through to check the settings and I have done that and all would appear to be OK. But, as soon as it checks for mail the message pops back up.
I have shut the phone off and have pulled the battery to no avail. The truly odd thing is emails are coming and going just fine, I'm just getting this dumb message with a tone/vibration warning.
