HTC Desire : Suggestions For Bluetooth Headset - Earpiece
May 18, 2010
Not as obvious as you might think. Hubby is deaf on one side, and is looking for a music/phone bluetooth headset.
I don't really mean a headset, i guess i mean an ear piece.
Probably going to be used mostly for music, so good controls and sound quality is most important.

Been looking at some for few weeks now and wanted to see what people suggest for the Desire. Saw a Jabra one for around 25.00, Is there any that won't work with the phone at all?

On my winmo device, I was able to use my laptop as a bluetooth headset. Unfortunately my Desire does not not seem to recognize my laptop as having the functionality.

Hope someone on the forum can help, as I don't know anything about the possibilities with bluetooth. I need some way of answering the phone while driving. Existing car stereo has external jack input, so I use the Desire as my sat nav / ipod, plugging it into the stereo via two 3.5mm jacks. Thinking of buying a bluetooth headset to let me answer phonecalls. My question is, would this work with the above set up? Or would it try and send the output via the "headphones" jack to the car stereo? Car stereo does not have bluetooth. Just the aux input from the phone (sat nav / music). I don't want the music / sat nav to play into my ear, just phonecalls. I know this is expecting a lot - but is it possible to do?

I recently aquired a HTC Desire froom T-Mobile UK and one of the first things i did was to pair the headset with phone. All went well up to the point of using it to liten to music and video(a2dp), alas that did not work.
Making phone calls work, and strangely enough controling playback of media via the headset (avrcp), but no other audio routed through the headset. I tried a second a2dp headset and it was the same issue. They work perfectly on my other phones for years, the Desire is the first to have this problem.
- So could it be T-Mobile or HTC forgot/screwed-up the a2dp profile?
- Do i have a faulty handset? everything works well.
- Am I doing something wrong somewhere? I went throught the user guide a few times just to be sure.

Have just purchased the Jabra Clipper to use with my Desire as it is deemed compatible. It paired instantly and the sound was awesome. However, it is diving me mad as the headset keeps loosing the signal, sometimes totally and it is supposed to have a 10m range. I look like a plum holding my phone in front of me I am sure it is not the headset.

Have tried to get to the bottom of the Desire's poor FM but am thinking of giving up and getting the Sony MW600's. Wondered if anyone has experience of these - mainly just want them for FM radio (Radio 2 in the main) in the UK.

I need to use Bluetooth headset for FM radio when in the gym, but we all already know that you need to plug in wired headset to use as antenna.
Problem is, as soon as you plug in wired headset, music goes to the wired headset. You can only choose to route music to the speakers by default.
So, the question is, does anyone know how I can route FM radio music to the Bluetooth headset instead of to the speakers? I don't mind leaving the wires attached for use as antenna. This must be possible through some fix or 3rd party software that I am not aware about.

I've uncovered what could be a serious problem with the Desire. It's only affected me in one way so far, but who knows what other problems there are that I haven't found. I've noticed on several occasions that when listening to music via Bluetooth, my headphones disconnect for no apparent reason. However I've found a pattern now: if WiFi is turned on and I come within range of a /remembered/ hotspot, the WiFi connects and BOOM, disconnected from audio. I can reconnect straight away. There is another poster here (sorry, can't remember your name or the thread you posted in) describing another problem with WiFi and Bluetooth working - or conflicting! - together so I don't think I'm the only person suffering. Who else can reproduce it and how could I submit a bug report to HTC?

I've paired a Motorola HS820 with my Desire. It all seems to connect and will even dial from the phone if I hold the button down but it doesn't seem to pass the audio through to the headset.

Anyone else having an issue with a bluetooth headset cutting out on the Evo. It started on a call and got so bad I ha to switch to the handset. it also did it playing MP3s right off the phone. This was a $90 motorola unit. So I took it back and picked up a nice Jabra for about $80 (just showing these aren't cheap units). I have not used the Jabra for a call yet, but the music cuts in and out for a few seconds every minute or so. Phone was in the holster on my hip so it wasn't a distance issue, the music is stored on the phone so it isn't a bandwidth thing.

My Plantronics BT earpiece has been working flawlessly the last several years but all of the sudden I have been having issues with it when used with the Droid. What is the BT earpiece of choice that seems to work well with the Droid? For some reason, people say they couldn't hear me (as if the BT muted itself out on its on); Its been disconnecting itself from the phone but it still shows its connected in the Notification window. Today it kept going from BT to phone and vice versa in the middle of a call! I was like the what in the world is going on! LOL! It has a good charge so I know thats not the issue. Maybe its time for a new BT earpiece! What should I consider?

I have my earpiece paired... I would like to be able to map - push the button on the side of the earpiece to activate the voice dialer... and then when finished another push would end the call.

First, my specs: I have an HTC Evo 4G LTE, software, firmware is current. I am using a Plantronics M50 earpiece. The problem: I have it in a Sprint car dock while driving and I make a couple calls on my way home from work using my Bluetooth. It started about 2-3 wks ago. I'll start a call and while the phone is ringing on the other end, it goes silent in my ear and I can hear it through the normal ear speaker on the phone (speakerphone doesn't kick on). I have to turn my Bluetooth off then on again to re-establish a connection. Then it stays on through the call. It happens when I answer a call as well. Happens when not in the car dock too. It doesn't do it twice in the same call, after reconnecting the Bluetooth, the call stays connected. I have already unpaired the Bluetooth and did a simulated battery pull (battery is not removable) and hard reset to clear data then pair it up again, but it still does it. I have a feeling that it's not the Bluetooth, but something in the Bluetooth software in my EVOLTE.

I am a new SE user and am still getting to grips with using the phone's features. Could anyone advise how to transfer a call from a headset back to the phone and phone to headset? Whilst I am asking inane questions, is it possible to use the phone i.e. return to menu when in a call?

How is Bluetooth audio quality with your Evo? I'm using a Jabra Extreme earpiece and am experiencing poor audio quality. One person with whom I was speaking said that I sounded like I was running or was in a windy location (I was calling from a quiet hotel room). On my end there was noticeable static. As a test, I hung up and paired the Jabra with my Blackberry 8830, and the person with whom I was speaking said that I sounded a little distant, but otherwise clear. On my end, the audio quality was good.

We have tried everything to get a bluetooth earpiece to work with the HTC Droid. The only thing that works is answering a call and the quality is questionable.
You cannot use voice dialing at all. Last call redial doesn't work. Nothing that we have come to take for granted on cell phones for years works. If a 3 year old Motorola flip can do it, it can't be that hard.
Anyone have any idea if this is going to get fixed in the next release? I didn't find it even described in the release for December 11th.

My speaker isn't loud enough - when the phone is ringing/when in speaker in a phonecall / when listening to music. Same goes for the earpiece volume - and the volume is at the maximum level.

Android Version: 2.2 (Recent update)
Network: T-Mobile, UK
Taskiller Used?: None
[Optional]Are You rooted & which Rom: No rooting - stock ROM
Issue: Since updating to Froyo, I've had trouble with my earpiece - it seems to not have any sound at all when making calls - only when I'm turning 'speaker' on, when making calls can I hear anything at all. 'speaker' is rather prone to distortion whilst in use. But I'm more concerned about how I can't seem to get any sound to come out of my earpiece.
This seems to be directly following installation of Froyo - my phone definitely worked a day or two ago, prior to the update. I've tried to toggle the 'in call' volume up and down, but have had no joy - it's just silent. Haven't done any resetting as yet, but have powered off/removed battery.
I've seen a few threads which suggest possible hardware fault, but I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to how to verify this? Seems a bit of a coincidence that it's ... well, at least as best I can tell 'since froyo'.

Haven't seen a recent thread on this lately so I'm curious what Bluetooth headsets you guys use out there? Rate 'em 1-5, link 'em too if you can! I currently use:
-Plantronics Discovery 975 5/5
-Plantronics Discovery 925 4/5
-Aliph Jawbone2 4/5
-Plantronics Voyager 520 3/5
1. Plantronics Discovery 975. I've got 2 of these actually one for my PlayStation 3 and one for my Droid. It's the main Bluetooth headset I use these days. Sound quality is excellent. It sticks in your ear with no hoop, is comfortable to wear for long periods of time. It comes with a little leather case with a battery built in so that you can recharge the headset up to 3x when away from AC power. Has a little LCD panel to show you charge of both devices. (Infinitely easier than deciphering how many blinks equals what battery charge!) Best voice. You may see them on this seasons "24" as it's the headphone of choice at CTU
2. Plantronics Discovery 925. Earlier version of the 975. Great for call quality, battery life etc. Comes with same little case. Design is a little different but it gets the job done. No LCD screen on the case. Mainly used with my work Blackberry. Uses MicroSD charger, so you get an extra for your Droid!
3. Aliph Jawbone2. Much smaller than the original. Very tiny and chic. Great sound quality (it uses a little nub to detect vibration in your jaw to know when to isolate outside noise (using it's patented NoiseAssassin) so you could be on a crowded street and still be pretty clear. Only downsides are the battery life isn't amazing and the proprietary charger plus it only comes with a USB. (Becoming less of an issue these days as I'm starting to acquire a ton of AC USB chargers)
4. Plantronics Discovery 520. My original work Bluetooth headset. Does a decent job but is a little bulky. The ear hook makes it a bit uncomfortable to wear for long periods and not quick to get on. Has a proprietary weird shaped charging port. Battery life was average if that.

So I got a new Evo on friday and it is my first experience with android and I am loving it so far! The only problem I am really having is keeping my bluetooth headset paired with the device.
I have a plantronics explorer 230 and it is the only bluetooth thing I have. It continually disconnects and reconnects from the device at random even when I am on calls. I am not very techy so I really have no idea what to do. It disconnects on its own and then reconnects again a few seconds later.
