General :: Turning On USB Storage Mode From Computer

Apr 18, 2013

The screen on my wife's phone (Samsung Epic 4g) died and so we are trying to move the data off the phone. Normally, you press the "Turn on USB storage" button to see the storage when connected to a computer. Since the screen is dead, that is not possible.

Is there a way to initiate USB storage mode from the computer?

General :: How To Force Mass Storage Mode On Non-booting LY-F1

Jan 26, 2013

I have a generic LY-F1 Allwinner tablet which was working fine until a week ago. Now, however, it won't boot past the glowing Android screen. I've left it for five or six hours with no progress, so I guess the ROM is corrupted. Is there any other way to fix this other than flashing a new ROM?

However, the main problem with this tablet is that it does not automatically enter mass storage mode when plugged into a laptop, so I have no way to rescue my content. I can see the drives in Windows (one for the internal SD, one for the SD slot) but they are not usable (they result in an 'insert media' message)

Is there a way to force mass storage mode so that I can remove my data in preparation to reflash it? I'm sure I read of a command line method to get into the internal SD card? Or was I imagining it?

I really want Mass Storage mode, as I use my phone as a memory stick for various educational purposes, including running various executables directly from the Mass Storage.

Is it possible to create a 1GB, or so, FAT32 partition from the normal ext4 space and allow that to be mounted as Mass Storage?

Motorola Droid :: Turning On USB Storage Removes Few Applications

Jul 15, 2010

I have this weird issue with my newly rooted Droid, whenever I turn on USB Storage, five apps that I have (ShootMe, Factbook, Dictionary.com, TTS for google translate and Battery Gauge Widget) remove themselves from my phone.

I did some searching around my phone and realized that all five of these apps are in a folder called ".android_secure". What can I do about this annoying problem? Can I move them into another folder where all my other apps are or something? Anyone else have a similar problem?

Or if I power on I can slide it to the right which mutes the phone. Side it left and it powers on. My gf has the HTC Desire Z I cant seem to find it. Only way I found out was to adjust the volume to lowest setting but this takes time there must be an easier way.

KitKat 4.4 :: Turning On / Off Airplane Mode As System App

Mar 13, 2014

I've encountered a very strange problem for programmatically turning on/off the airplane mode.I'm aware that it's one of the secure settings, and my app is a system app that is correctly signed.

However, I'm not able to correctly turn on/off the airplane mode.I have the following codes: (checked value is from onCheckedChanged callback of a check box UI)

int isAirplaneModeOn = checked ? 1 : 0;
Settings.Global.putInt(mContext.getContentResolver(), Settings.Global.AIRPLANE_MODE_ON, isAirplaneModeOn);
Intent intent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_AIRPLANE_MODE_CHANGED);
intent.putExtra("state", checked);
mContext.sendBroadcast(intent);

The line where it calls Settings.Global.putInt(....) works, because we can see that the airplane mode's check box in the android's settings app will changes as we change this value from our app, so we know that our app is indeed a system app. Otherwise, it will throw a SecurityException at this line.

However, we're getting "Permission Denial: not allowed to send broadcast android.intent.action.AIRPLANE_MODE", at the line where it calls mContext.sendBroadcast(...). I have no idea why this fails while Settings.Global.putInt works.

One last note is that we're using Android 4.4.2 (KitKat).

HTC Hero :: Privacy Mode Or Way Of Turning Off SMS Notification Display Bar?

Dec 28, 2009

I just got the Hero today and I am very annoyed by the SMS feature of displaying the text message on the screen. It seems that I can either have absolutely no notification of a new text message or I can have this major intrusion of privacy by having the message displayed for all to see. I hand my phone to people constantly to use at my job sites. I trust they are not fishing around in my phone, but when it just shows up on the screen, how can they help but read it. Is there a privacy mode or a way of turning off that display bar?

Samsung Galaxy S :: Mass Storage Mode And Windows Vista / 7

Jul 16, 2010

When I connect my new Galaxy S to my computer using the usb connection, I can see both the internal and external SD card (I use a sandisk Ultra 16GB card). However I cannot open these disks. Windows refuses to open them. The right click on these disks in order to get their properties gives 0GB! So what is going wrong. Do the SD cards use a special format (linux ?) that windows can not see correctly.

I take chance of this message to give a short feedback of my first week with my galaxy S here in France. I got it from virginmobile operator. I have to say that this phone is amazing. What a screen ! My wife just purchased an iphone 4. By far I prefer the samsung's screen. Concerning the battery. One can go for one or two days without recharging. My feeling is that it is not shorter than the iphone's battery.

Motorola Droid X :: Cannot Open SD Card In USB Mass Storage Mode

Sep 25, 2010

I was able to move a few files to my X from my computer earlier tonight, but I unplugged it from my computer to do something on the phone, and when I plugged it in later, the computer showed the phone storage (drive F) and SD card (drive G). However, I can't open the SD card, and when I go into the SD Card settings on the phone, it keeps going back and forth between Mount and Unmount. The stuff on the card is there and everything works fine when I'm not connected to the computer. But I can't move anything to my phone via USB since I can't get the computer to recognize the SD card. I also noticed that there's no option to format the SD card (well, it's there, but grayed out).

General :: 2 Small Internal Storage - How To Swap SD To Be Main Phone Storage?

Aug 23, 2013

I've bought this chinese clone of the SIII, it's a MT6575. It's great except for the internal storage, which supposedly is 500MB but there seems to be an invisible SD storage which is 2GB. It's really confusing... When I go to Settings -> Storage there are 3 memories: "Internal Storage" (claims to be 4GB but it's fake, it's actually 500MB), "Phone Storage" (claims to be 16.5GB but it's probably 2GB), and finally my SD, "SD Card" (32GB).

The thing is, I'm having problems downloading big apps because apps go to "Internal Storage" which is 500MB only, and which files are stored in the "Phone Storage" (maybe internal & phone are actually the same?). However when I go to Settings -> Apps, on the "Downloaded" tab, the apps are in "Internal Storage" (500MB), and on the "On SD Card" tab, it shows that apps are in "Phone Storage" (the ones I moved to SD). This means my 32GB SD isn't being used by the system when I send apps to SD probably.

Also, my 32GB SD card is found in /mnt/sdcard2, and the /mnt/sdcard... I don't know which storage is that.

So basically all this is happening because I tried to Link2SD with my 32GB SD doing all the 2 partitions stuff and so, but Link2SD never detects the "secondary SD" which is the 32GB SD, as this fake SD card, "Phone Storage", is probably what the programs thinks to be the SD card.

Motorola Droid X :: Reboots With Custom Notification / Mass Storage Mode Steals SD?

Aug 17, 2010

So...I am currently using a custom sound for my notifications. Since we aren't allowed to access the internal storage, the sound file is stored on the sd card by default. Today when I plugged my phone in (which is defaulted to USB Mass Storage) it started to play the sound from the card, but Mass Storage mode steals the SD and blocks it from the phone, so halfway through the sound, the phone rebooted. When the phone was almost restarted, it recognized being plugged in (still) and tried to play the sound again...reboot. I unplugged it and changed the default notification to one of the pre-installed ones and tried again. Notification played and everything was fine....wtf? So.....can I either disable the sound when I connect to USB mode or is there a way to put the sound file in the folder with the factory installed ones? (I am rooted)

Android :: Unique Uses For Locale - Turning The Ringer Down - Turning GPS/Bluetooth/wifi

Nov 17, 2009

I see another thread on Locale, but it seems to be focused on it technical shortcomings. I thought a thread about how people are using this app would be helpful.

Now... I use Locale for the following:

- Turning the ringer down when I get to work (obviouse one)
- Turning GPS/Bluetooth/wifi on when I plug it in the phone (think car dock)
- Turn on Wifi when I get near my known hot spots.
- Turn off GPS/Bluetooth/wifi off and turn down brightness when my battery is low.

And the last one is a good one for me...

- I have a GV number. When I call my phone from that number, it turns the ringer volume all the way up and it turns on wifi and GPS. This is my "lost phone aid". It turns on the locating features so I can see where the phone is using iGoogle and Latitude, and I can hear the phone if it is "in the cushions" on vibrate.

Anyone else get creative with Locale?
