HTC Desire :: Optical Track Pad Lags
Apr 11, 2010
If you use the optical track pad and move through homescreens really fast, it becomes extremely choppy on my desire. But when using the nexus one live wallpaper its totally smooth and not choppy at all.I would have thought it would be choppy with the nexus one live wallpaper and not choppy with an ordinary one.

Basically my track-pad will sometimes have no effect on the cursor in the keyboard. I dont think its a hardware issue.

How do you change the direction of the optical track pad on the Desire and Legend? Has anyone else noticed that it functions the exact opposite to the touch screen? I find this annoying and would like to reverse it. Anyone know how?

Okay so I know you can turn the screen ON with the Track Pad. Using a custom ROM. I have my phone set up this way, but is there an app out there that allows you to turn it OFF again, again using the track pad?
It seems weird that you can do one, but not the other, and I'd rather just press the button facing me, than have to pick my phone up to use the power button. Just to kill the screen.

Can someone tell me if the optical track pad is backlit? Ie the Droid Eris track ball is and can be setup to flash (pulse) for missed calls, sms, emails, etc. Just wanted to make sure that feature wasn't dropped.

I think my optical track pad is not calibrated. Sometimes (often) when I unlock my phone, the screens start automatically shifting to the right. If I manage to open an app, the selection keeps going to the right. For example, if I am in a text message and am trying to move the cursor to a previous work to correct spelling, the cursor keeps moving the right and down on its own. Is there a way to calibrate the optical trackpad? Anyone else having this issue?

Does anyone know of an app or setting to allow to phone to wake upon clicking the optical track pad? I'm so use to doing this with my ipod touch that i really wished the DI could do it too. Wake the screen from the power button is sort of annoying

Last night I was hammering out some emails while watching TV. The only light in the room was from the Inc and the TV. I could not get the track pad to register my motions. I attempted to angle the phone to face the TV but still got no response.
I'm thinking this is a design failure. An optical device shouldn't be on a phone if it can't be used in the dark. Seems to me that the light sensor would affect the track pad's sensitivity based on the ambient light.
Is there any work around to getting the track pad to work in the dark?

Sometimes I feel as if my optical track pad moves and responds too slowly. Does anyone know if there's a way to adjust track pad movement?

I am still experiencing phantom swipes (only to the left) on my Incredible. Putting a piece of duck tape over the optical track pad seems to resolve it. This has been ongoing for about a month and a half. I have a warantee but really don't want to wait for my new phone/get one of the newer LCD phones. I have been able to recreate the phantom swipe by moving the phone under different light sources. This is so annoying.
I have tried everything, there isn't dust on my track pad and its not a matter of grounding. I really hope this is not a hardware issue. I got my Inc by pre-order (original with AMOLED). I have been able to toy with some of the newer Inc builds (with the LCD screen). I have noticed the trackpad is more flush with the unit, this leads me to believe they reworked the hardware to fix an issue. Anyone else with the original AMOLED Inc builds experiencing this?

The trackpad in my desire is a bit "leggy". I don't know if this is normal but in menus it only moves 1 tile at a time even if I drag all my finger over it. I have seen blackberry trackpads and they are supper smooth Sometimes when editing text I have to move it 3-5 times to get to the right position.

The optical mouse is actually quite annoying. Is there a way of turning it off?I just swipe to move screens and select on screen - I haven't yet found a use for the mouse. Usually I am on a webpage and I move my hand slightly and the screen will move to where I don't want it because of the optical mouse..

I have used my HTC desire for a month now and I am very pleased with this ultimate android phone.I have only one issue with the phone/system though. The optical trackball is hyper sensitive. Whenever I use the phone ouside and the sun is shining, then the track ball activates due to the light and the phone/system uses the input to always scroll to the right. This is pretty annoying because this means that I cannot use the phone outside. Resently I also discovered that a small lamp next to my couch can activate the trackball as well.Does anyone know if its possible to disable the optical trackball or am I the only one who has this problem? If so then maybe it's a hardware error and I will try to return the phone. As a temporarily solution I have placed a sticker on top of the track ball.

Does anyone have problems using the optical trackpad to edit text? If I'm (for example) writing a SMS and then want to navigate back though the text to correct a typo, I find it very difficult to get the cursor to the required position. Sometimes it seems too sensitive and jumps more lines / positions than I want; and sometimes it seems not sensitive enough! Is it just me, or do others have problems using the trackpad?

Can you use the optical trackpad to move the cursor when writing text? So if you realise you've gone wrong you don't have to place your finger in-between two letters. On my existing very old touch scree phone this is a big issue as i can never get the cursor exactly where i want Another trackpad question - what purpose does it have when browsing, does it highlight links allowing quick navigation without using the pinch and zoom?
Final track pad question- do you use it? The battery- with moderate to heavy use will it ALWAYS last a long day 7-11 for example? Hows the froyo update, is sense still as smooth as ever?

I have now got Genres working in the Music player on my Desire but have hit a new problem. Track Order.
All the tracks in the folders on my SD card have track numbers, copied from the PC folders. This means that when I play an album on my PC it plays in the track order; essential for symphonies!
However in the Desire Music player tracks are sorted alphabetically; Astro shows me that the track numbers are there as part of the file name. I do not wish to created over 100 playlists.
Is there a way to get the Music player to sort tracks by track order?

Earlier, I received a facebook message, and my Desire started playing a Bruce Springsteen track (needless to say I have Springsteen in my Music app). The thing is, my music app wasn't even open (in Task Killer) and when I did open it, I could still select another song and play it on top of the Springsteen song - so it wasn't a Music app bug. The only way to stop it was to open the task manager (swiping to home screen down) to identify the message. Is there somewhere where this particular track has been selected as a Facebook notification tone?

I have several complaints from Moto DROID users who experience lags while touching. In my app I implement the recommended workaround with two threads and Thread.Sleep( 35 ) . It worked and works perfectly on my G1 and on some other Google devices. But for DROID I hear many complaints. As I don't have a DROID, could someone please tell me if there is still a need for this workaround? Or shall I have to do anything else?

I use Handcent to text, and it seems to lag alot. I'm not the fastest typer in the world, so I'm not sure why this is, but it always takes a few seconds to show up what I've typed and it used to be instant. Is there something I can do to make it quick again?

Since yesterday I got an idea running around my mind but I donīt know first if it would work, and then how "hack" it would be.
People who develop audio processing/recording/playback apps for Android know how hard it is to maintain GC away from our critical paths: playing and recording audio. Processing must be as optimized as possible not only to save battery and use less CPU, but also not to create new objects/allocate new memory spaces ... this all to avoid GC at all cost. Well, we have knowledge and this we can handle (mostly). But what about all the other processing that happens from and for user interaction? Media players display images, some apps display ads, ... and sometimes we have to avoid releasing features to the users just to maintain our critical paths free from GC.
Yesterday I stumbled upon an article about remote services and this led me to a doubt: if they can run as a different process, would a GC call from my activity impact the performance of my remote service? I really donīt know how GC works on the Dalvik so this may be a dumb question. If so, I apologize.

Recently, i got myself an HTC Wildfire. It's great, except one thing. Some of the games lags, but the lag gets less and less the more i play the game. It does'nt disappear totally but it gets smaller.
Its not the processors because i tested the games on an Xperia X10 Mini and they worked perfectly fine.
What cam it be?
