I have had my Desire for about 3 weeks got it over the Iphone and I am so happy I did. One question I have is with Google maps I see that you can voice search I was wondering if you need to get an app for this or does the latest version of Google maps come with the phone. I love the options I have but still can not find how to use the speech options?

I'll be gettin a Desire in July when US Cellular gets it. I've read that the Desire does not have voice search like the Nexus One and Moto Droid. Will GMN still have voice search for finding places?

The other thing as well I dont understand the lack of a Compass? No Orientation of Google Maps they did it with the new Iphone why not with Android?? we have a Compass.Bad Google! did they only give the USA the Search VIA Voice? View 1 Replies View RelatedIs there any way of changing the voice on these, the synthesised voice is AWFUL. Apart from not being able to pronounce English words correctly (E.g. Kew <queue> said as koo - I can't imagine what is must be like if I had to drive down Gloucester or Leicester) it's soooooo grating and harsh on my lugs.I've tried both English and American English settings but both are as bad as each other.Is there a download for new voices or one in the pipeline?I'm shocked this passed Google's quality control!

1) how do you enable voice activation so you can search by voice rather than typing stuff in?
2) how on earth do you modify routes so that you can avoid motorways for example? i cant find any way to drag points on the map in the same way you can on the normal PC version of maps?
I would like to create a search in my app which acts like the map search in the Google Maps app. I have creates an an auto complete text view which updates dynamically based on the results of the Geocoder.GetLocationByName() Method. However the results retrieved from this function are really bad and not at all consistent with the text I pass to it. Is there a better method of doing this to achieve accurate results?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI use to be able to search for categories of things in my area by opening google maps and then clickin 'menu' and then 'search' and immediately a list of categories would pop up and i could click on 'restuarants' for instance and then select by sub category such as 'chinese'. Now, the search button only opens a search box. I've seen the places icon but that's no more than a macro to search for broad words like "bars" or "restuarants" in google maps. It's not a full categorization.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with Google Maps. Everytime I start searching for something in Google Maps, the search box will disapper while typing like I hit the back button. I don't recall this type of behavior happening in any other application. I'm using a Spring HTC hero with Fresh 2.4 (Andriod 2.1) and I'm running the latest version of Google Maps (4.6). After some quick google searching I have seen other andriod phones with similar issues, so I don't think it's related to Fresh. THis issue also happened with the previous version of Google Maps.

At this time we were still at the airport, so I couldn't just say "map of nearest haircut". So I got the map to display the embassy suites, but then couldn't get it to ALSO display places to get a haircut. It was one or the other. I worked on it for about an hour but couldn't figure this one out. Is there a way to display multiple results?

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhats everyones take on both these applications? I've just started using the new google voice actions and think its amazing, and actually interprets my speech quite well! Voice actions I think provide a bit more robust actions over vlingo, as they can be used to get directions, navigate you somewhere, call certain businesses etc.
I do like the idea of Vlingo's, text to speech, reading who's calling you or a new email or message. I use handcent and that has text to speech although its extremely quiet even if i turn it up completely. I also can't understand it most of the time as it speaks too fast in its funny computer voice!
Another plus, Vlingo is now FREE! I haven't downloaded it yet as I'm just enjoying Googles new voice actions, but I would be interested in a comparison with accuracy and speed in both these applications!
Ok so google just announced the new Voice Search and Google Search apps, that work only on Froyo (2.2). I'm on that OS (yeah!) but can't install the apps? Anyone have some clues? View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Galaxy S5 with 4.4.2. I dont recall if this happened when I had my S4 but this is my issue. When I am in my car and connected to the cars bluetooth, whenever I want to speak to google to do a search or something it goes through the bluetooth of the car. This would be fine but sometimes it waits like 2-3 seconds until the bluetooth in car picks up and messes up my train of thought. I would like to make the voice search not use the bluetooth when connected.

This has been a rather annoying issue for quite a while. Whenever I use the commands like "Listen to (Artist or Song)" or "Play (Artist or Song)" it never seems to recognize it. Instead it just does web search of what I said, I'm not sure where the problem is in it though. I have Poweramp and Play Music installed with plenty of music on file.
