HTC Desire : Google Maps 4.6 - Unable To See One Of The Main Features
Oct 29, 2010
I updated Google Maps to 4.6 yesterday. And I am unable to see one of the main features of the new version i.e. to filter results by open times and neighbourhood etc. When I click on the places icon in my maps, it just shows me the two search filters that I had before - 'Distance' and 'Rating'. Am I the only one who is having this problem? I am on T-Mobile in UK.

I'm running Cyanogenmod 6. I just noticed that I can't find Google voice or Google maps in the market. I do have the apps installed, but can't see them int he market to get updates. I tried out LFY1.7 and Ultimate Droid 1.0.0, and see the same issue.

I updated the firmware on my HTC Hero some time ago from Modaco to Firmware 1.5.I just got an N1, so I restored the Hero to give to my wife, and the next thing I noticed is there was no Google Maps. I went in to the Market and again...I couldn't even pull it in a search even though I pulled it in searches on my N1.
Does anyone know what's up here? Do I need to upgrade my firmware? If so, does anyone have a link to the install?

This has been posted under the sprint htc hero forum, however i know there are much more people posting here that can help with this problem. Maps works fine, but when I open the app a pop up shows "unable to load the url", its pretty annoying. How can I get rid of this....clearing the cache and defaults did nothing.

Every time I open Google Maps, a little pop-up window says "Unable to load the URL" The program works fine, it's just kind of annoying. Does anyone else experience this? Is there a known solution? I cleared the cache and data and force-stopped the ap, but it still happens. For what it's worth, the same exact thing happened on my Moment (well, on the Moment Google Maps didn't work at all due to the POS GPS)

I have started using Waze for my GPS navigation needs. The problem is, I had previously told my phone to use Google Maps Navigation (or simply "Navigation", the one with the blue arrow icon, instead of the other option at the time which was TeleNav GPS Navigator), but I can't seem to remove that default app setting.
I have gone to Settings->Applications->Manage Applications->All to look for the Navigation app and clear "Launch by Default" setting, but it does not appear in the list of apps at all.
Is this a thing about Google apps, that they are kept hidden and forever locked into being your default app once you tell it so? I thought maybe it was part of the regular Google Maps app, but the setting there says there are no defaults set to be cleared.

Is it possible to store Google maps to my SD card so I wouldn't need a data connection when navigating? If yes how much free space would I need? If no, are there other alternatives?

I'm currently running the latest version of leedroid and I am having issues with google maps. About a week ago after charging my phone google maps just vanished from my phone, its no longer in the application manager and I am unable to install it via the market (it fails each time) I really do not want to wipe my phone again, as I've just got it the way I want it.

I have a Desire and have Google Maps installed, but when I want to go somewhere, it doesn't tell me my turns and what street to turn on. I only see the map and that's it. When maps was installed I had a popup that advised that I should download text to speech as well, which I did. I've watched on utube and the videos show turn by turn speech happening on the videos. I live in Canada. Is it not available here?

Has anyone manager to get Trapster to work properly on the Desire? On mine the app appears to work, but I can't get the audible alert funtion to work.I'd really like to get this operating so that I can run it in the background while using Google Maps Navigation. The aim is to use Trapster as an audible speed camera alert while using Google Navigation. Is it possible?

Is there any way of changing the voice on these, the synthesised voice is AWFUL. Apart from not being able to pronounce English words correctly (E.g. Kew <queue> said as koo - I can't imagine what is must be like if I had to drive down Gloucester or Leicester) it's soooooo grating and harsh on my lugs.I've tried both English and American English settings but both are as bad as each other. Is there a download for new voices or one in the pipeline?I'm shocked this passed Google's quality control!

When I try to pinch zoom in, it sometimes zooms out twice as hard.
When I try to pinch zoom out, it sometimes zooms in twice as hard.
When I try to pinch zoom in or out, it sometimes just moves the map.
With sometimes I mean, every time I'm in google maps all 3 of those problems occur more than it works normal.

I know HTC have added their own 'offline' maps application, which I am quite interested in, I am however wondering if plain old Google Maps, Navigation and most of all Latitude are still present / working?

I am REALLY impressed with the google maps navigation on my Desire, I have a TomTom and pay for maps quarterly and it's up to date but still does not know about the 4 new roads where i live and one is a few miles long. However Google Navigation knew about the new roads (1 extra before i knew, let alone tomtom)
How can they offer such great navigation for free when i have just paid ?74 for my tom tom map update and it's still out of date.! if htc/google can fix the issue of calls via blutooth whilst using HTC desire for navigation i tell you TOMTOM are history and thats hard to say after all these years!

I am having trouble with Google Maps in my HTC Desire. When I look at My Location, it is completely wrong. When I rotate my phone, the arrow turns round, but the location is nowhere near where I actually am. Anybody have any idea what I can do about this, as I really need to use this feature.

My phone seemed to be using a lot of my months quota of data without me actually doing anything. I thought it may have something to do with google collecting location data in the background so turned off 'use wireless networks' in location settings. This seems to have fixed the problem but is there a way of having this setting enabled so the phone only uses 3G when in an application rather than using my data usage without being in any particular program?

I'm new here and new to the HTC Desire but understand most of the Apps that can be used on this neat phone. One BIG niggle I have is that the Google Maps App on this phone does not allow you to save 'favourites' or 'starred' places on the phone, like your home or work place if you use the phone for navigation from A to B. I have searched here to see if this topic has been mentioned before but cannot find anything. Looking at Google Maps Mobile 'help' it does say that you can 'star' destinations and save addresses in your 'favourites' but do you think I can, well no.
