HTC Desire :: Froyo And Can't View Addresses?
Sep 20, 2010
Have 2.2 now on my Desire (with HTC Sense if that makes any difference) and I am amazed that when I open a contact to get their postal address (to write on an envelope), I STILL can't view it. I can see the house number, street and some of the town, but can't see the postcode. I can click it and see if in Google Maps (useful) or go Menu -> Edit and scroll and see it all, but why does it have to be this way? Does NO-ONE at Google or HTC actually USE an Android phone?

I have created a group to send out joke texts etc however when i sent the text to the group i have created some go to their mobile number (What i want) and others go to their e-mail address... I have checked all the settings and cannot find a way to select the mobile number. Also some people that get it sent via text also have an e-mail address saved so it's not defaulting to e-mail for all the contact in the group with an e-mail address...

I have a HTC Desire (updated to Froyo) and have been syncing my contacts with my Outlook 2010 (running Windows 7 Enterprise-32 bit). Everything seems to synchronize well but somehow the "email address-Display As" fields gets updated in outlook, which then doesnt allow me to send emails to those email addresses unless I manually go and update the display as field inside my outlook contacts. I have manually updated all the contacts once already hoping that it may not be due to HTC Sync but when I did the sync then immediately all my Outlook email ids got updated.
Now everytime I try and send an email I immediately get Undeliverable receipt from System Administrator stating the following:
Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.
Subject: test Sent: 14-Sep-2010 17:41
The following recipient(s) cannot be reached: abc@xyz.com on 14-Sep-2010 17:41
None of your e-mail accounts could send to this recipient.

I use Google Calendar to organize my life, and rely on the email reminders to keep me from forgetting events and to know when to act on them. With 2.1 I had no issues, Google Calendar was synced to the stock HTC calendar app on EVO. I had the calendar set to view in "agenda" mode. Now since updating to Froyo, when I open the calendar app in agenda mode, the events have bell icons to the right of them, this is new. If I tap the event to open it and view the details of the event, when I return to the main agenda viewing mode of the calendar the bell is gone.
The phone then syncs with Google Calendar, and deletes all of the scheduled Email Reminders that I have set up for the event. This was not a problem with 2.1. No bells showed to the right of the events in agenda mode, and I could tap into the event to view the details without deleting email reminders on Google Calendar. With Froyo, by simply tapping the event to view the details it is effectively wiping out all reminders, rendering the calendar useless. This making me wish I had never updated to Froyo. The calendar and reminders are the single most important function on my phone, and with Froyo it seems to be incredibly flawed.

I have used Lambrospowers (XDA Forum) Rosie patch to enable drag n drop when in helicopter (leap) view. It works flawlessly on my rooted stock Froyo Desire. If anyone is interested, I will provide more info on how to install the patch and where to d/l it from.My desire is rooted but S-ON and odexed. It only works on rooted phones.I love this feature that only comes on DHD & DZ as part of the new sense 2.0 ui as standard.

I have posed this question in some threads but as yet have made no progress.I am just curious as to why HTC appear to have left out the Bluetooth Voice Dialler function that can be provided by the Froyo 2.2 O/S. I believe this feature is present and enabled in some of the cooked roms and also in the Nexus one Vanilla 2.2 so why not here?If I have missed somthing simple or if anyone is aware why it is missing or how I can activate it that would be fantastic!

I am toying with the idea of putting a Froyo Rom on my desire, but have several questions that aren't answered in other posts.
1. Will I need to unlock my phone before, during or after changing the Rom? I am not overly bothered by the orange stuff on my phone, but am worried about losing my WiFi connections!
2. Do I need a goldcard? Some instructions say yes, other no. None mention orange handsets specifically.
3. Which is the easiest & safest method to root my phone, if I want to put the Froyo Rom on it?
4. What if I want to change Roms - do I need to do the whole process again? I've seen something about a Rom manager, but where do you get it and how does it work?
5. Which Rom do I use? I've looked at some I'd the modacco forum ROMs, but most don't actually say what you do or don't get with them.
6. What's that difference between a2sd and a2sd+? Does it come as part of the ROM or so I news to get it separately?

I got my Desire 3 weeks ago. At first everything was okay and the websurfing experience great. But during the last week the browser has been forcing me to view the sites i visit in mobile view, only some of them and unluckily the site i visit the most. I've had the mobile view setting unticked from the beginning. So thats not the problem. I've also tried to clear all the browser data and reset to default settings many times But nothing works. I'm starting to think that a factory reset is the only option, but I wanted to check if someone else has experienced this and/or knows a solution to this problem.

I've never owned a smartphone before and feel as if now is the time to get one as the buttons on my 2nd hand sony erricson c905 are starting to fall off.
I live in the uk and stuck between the HTC desire and Nexus One Froyo. From what I have read and learned, they are essentially the same phone, except nexus one receives the updates the quickest as it is the 'google experience' phone.
Right now im leaning more towards the nexus as it seems the froyo really does give the phone a stronger advantage. JIT, better interface etc... Am not that bothered about SenseUI and heard that froyo does make senseUI unnecessary in some areas. Despite rumors about the desire updating to froyo, majority of people are saying that it will be likely be autumn before the desire gets an update. So now that the froyo is picking up the interface and other substantial areas, what now gives the desire the edge over nexus?

Bought myself a Desire about a month ago from Play.com and stuck in a o2 payg sim i already had, really love it and everything is working great.I heard Froyo had been released ota so i decided to use the "check now" option however it claims that my phone is up to date. I've checked the softare information and its def 2.1-update 1, as far as i can tell the phone is definitely unbranded and there are no custom scenes or wallpapers.I even took the sim out and tried doing a check it still says there is no new updates. I'm a resident of the UK but as far as i can tell that shouldn't make a difference.I'm not in too much of a rush as its new software but i was just a little worried something was wrong. Anyone got any suggestions?

I got the update request on my phone for Froyo 2.2. I downloaded it using the WIFI. However when it came time to install it said I did not have enough memory and took me to a screen to delete some apps which I did.
After doing this I no longer get the request to upgrade and when I check to see if there any updates available (under "About Phone") it says "there are no updates available". I checked to see what the latest firmware was and it says 2.1 so I know it hasn't updated. I have no idea how to download it again and I have called Vodafone (my service provider), HTC and Carphone Warehouse (the place I got it from) to no avail.

Reading many of the comments of people upgrading to froyo, i am at this stage rather put off upgrading to froyo. One thing that concerns me the most is, that some users are experiencing problems with the stock browser being laggy.I have a sim free Desire from the CPW.So am i right to hold back and wait for more feedback, as it seems since the update there has been more negativity to froyo than i expected. Or should i take the plunge and update to Froyo now?

With this RUU package you can flash your phone to the current official OTA update i.e. the latest software, radio and bootloader. If you have a branded phone, this will debrand it.This method doesn't require you to root your phone and it doesn't install any unofficial or modified software. If your phone is currently rooted it will remove it.If you install an official branded update to Froyo, e.g. Vodafone's, you will not be able to install this.An alternative installation method that does not need any drivers (or even a computer) is available.

I've read that there is a leaked version of the O2 Froyo update, but after searching I haven't been able to find it.. Doesn't help that O2 is only 2 characters and the forums don't search for that. Does anybody have any info? I saw the RUU one, but I don't want to wipe my phone. I'm probably better waiting for the official OTA update, to be fair.It's on the 8th or something isn't it?

I bought an unbranded (fairly certain it's unbranded) desire from mobicity.com.au. I'm using it on the Optus Australia network, and its currently on the wifi at my place. Looking to update to froyo, but checking through phone settings>about>updates says there's no update available. Do I need to wait for an Australian update to 2.2, or can i do it manually? Not looking to root at this stage though.

I have a Desire from Vodafone (UK) that came with its practically invisible branding. Voda recently put out an update (that I have not installed yet) that would load it up with a bunch of branding bloatware. Word is that when they put out their Froyo update, it will have the same unremovable bloatware. I'd rather not have that.
If I root my Desire (with, say, unrEVOked) and install an official stock Froyo ROM (such as was received by those with completely unbranded Desires), what happens after that? Will I then have an essentially unbranded Desire that receives automatic OTA updates for bug-fixes (and, just maybe, Gingerbread)?
Or will I be stuck with a possibly buggy version of Froyo while waiting for a similar root-method to develop to install a bug-fixing patch?

I just updated to froyo and there are 2 issues. Video camera freezes after recording a clip, and the GPS wont work. It would normally detect my location in less than 15 seconds, but now takes forever. The only way to locate is using wifi or mobile network. it: Unmounted SD card, restarted device, took battery out for 30 secs and put it back. Everything works as it should now.

Right - I'm trying to fix my O2 apns, and the settings they've given me just make them not work. (Grr) The one that you can automatically set up with 2.2 gives me mms capabilities and SOME internet:
wap.02.co.uk
193.113.200.195
8080
o2wap
password
<not set>
http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002
193.113.200.195
8080
WAP 2.0
234
10
<not set>
*
However - apparently I'm supposed to have a separate one for mobile internet as: "Those are the WAP settings which only allow access through the WAP gateway or an http: gateway. You need the the O2 Mobile Web settings. Which are basically. APN=mobile.o2.co.uk with username = web and password = password"
I put these in - and it breaks it - Under the wireless and networks section where you tick the mobile network bit - it says connection failed, instead of connected.
I set it up like this:
1) O2 Mobile Web
mobile.o2.co.uk
web
password
wap 2.0 - can't delete - wont let you save without
234 - can't delete - wont let you save without
10 - can't delete - wont let you save without
default
2) O2 Postpay
wap.02.co.uk
193.113.200.195
8080
o2wap
password
<not set>
http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002
193.113.200.195
8080
WAP 2.0
234
10
<not set>
MMS
Still broken - not getting internet.
GRR - it's worse than before. At least then I *thought* I was getting internet, just some things weren't working. Now I'm getting nothing.
