While browsing, I often like to open a linked page in a new window, so do this via long pressing the link. However, it seems to me to be totally random whether long pressing a link brings up the context menu (which is what I usually want), or goes into text selection mode.
How do you control over which of these two actions occurs when long pressing a link?

I have a ListActivity and I want to implement context menu for each of the list elements. I know that the common way to do this is to show the context menu on long click/tap. I want to know if there is a way to show the context menu for each element on a key press(preferably the menu key).To rephrase my question, how can I trigger the context menu and not the options menu by pressing the menu key(or any other key).

I alos want to enable the ability to have a context menu display when the user long presses the textview. Now that I have implemented the context menu functionality dragging no longer works since the longpress is always served by the context menu event.Does anyone know of a workaround for this.

I have a TextView with its MovementMethod set to LinkMovementMethod. Text added to the TextView is a combination of normal text and URLs. For URLs, I would like to offer a context menu when the URL is long pressed for doing things such as copying the address. I've had a look at the source for LinkMovementMethod but it doesn't seem to have any long pressed related code I could override. Any ideas on how to go around achieving this?

Looking around online there doesn't seem to be a straight forward answer to which route is considered best practice. I'm looking to have a menu that looks similar to this: For an example, click the Layers button in the Google Maps app. It opens a list of options on a single short click. It has a title at the top and icons for each option. (The icons aren't super crucial) Should I use a Context Menu? If so, how do I do it without a long press. Should it be a Spinner? If so how do I change the appearance to use a button instead of the normal drop down box.

At some point (not sure when exactly) the long-press feature to bring up the context menu for links in Chrome stopped working.
When I long-press on a link, all that happens is I get a short vibrate, but no menu.
This means that I can no longer "Open in new tab".It's all working fine on my Nexus 7.

Which event is called when a user click on the disabled item? It's not onContextItemSelected nor onContextMenuClosed. But the menu is closed after the click.
I log onto a secure website at work. When I log on there is a menu where you select a topic, a further menu slides out and you select another topic from a third menu that slides out. I cannot select the third menu because as soon as I try to click on the second menu I am taken back to the first menu. I have tried this using Chrome, Firefox and the Android browser on my Nexus 5 and Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0. The same website works perfectly with my Safari on my iPhone 4 and iPad.
My Nexus 5 is on 4.4 and my Samsung is on 4.2
I have a ListActivity with a list of names (Jacob, Will, Matt, etc.). I have a contextMenu which gives the user the option to edit or delete the person. I know how to find the id to perform the edit and delete functionality, but I can't figure out how to get the person's name to be added to the intent extras or to add a toast when a delete occurs.

Go into Language & Keyboard - I see Big Buttons Keyboard, Swiftkey Beta and HTC_IME mod listed, all 3rd party keyboards I have installed.
I select one of them. It gives me a warning, I say OK, box is ticked. This keyboard is now selected.
I go to create a new SMS or enter something into the browser.
Stock HTC Keyboard.
I try again. Choose a different 3rd party keyboard. Stock HTC Keyboard.
Am I Just missing some essential stage in the process here, or is something messed up?
I am seriously considering getting this phone but one of the things that is worrying me is the fact that long text messages are automatically turned into mms. What constitutes a long text message?I often go over the 160 characters mark which isn't a problem as I have free sms but obviously will have to pay for mms.

View 7 Replies View RelatedFor some reason, when I pull up a text conversation and start scrolling backwards through it, the screen ALWAYS jumps right back to the bottom again. It wont let me scroll back up long enough to select a particular message to delete. Now I do have a screen protector on it, however, it was put on as soon as I took it out of the box so Im pretty sure its not the screen or my touch. Anyone else having this issue? I want, that when the user clicks on a button, a textfield with a number will increase or decrease. But this should be work in a way, that the user leaves the finger on the button and the number increases automatically. Therefore he doesn´t have to click lot of times.I have not found any method to override that could implement such behaviour! Does anybody know how to implement this?
