Android :: Disable Context Menu On Long Taps On Droid Via HTML _ CSS _ Javascript?
Aug 5, 2010
I would like to disable the context menu that appears after a long tap (touch and hold) on images in my web application. I've seen posts with different ideas how to do it, but none of them seem to work for me.
Is there a way to do this on Android via HTML/CSS/Javascript?

I'm making an Javascript web app and I can't for the life of me get the touchstart event to fire. I get the touchmove and touchend events no problem. This is a problem because as I see it the best way to distinguish between a tap and a scrolling motion is to zero a counter on the touchstart event, update it at touchmove and then compare it at touchend. I'm doing this so I can do some action at the end of tap but not a scroll. For instance, it would be very confusing if a page opened for an item in a listed after you finished scrolling down that list, but it would be nice to be able to tap on an item to open its page.
This is what I have..
I never see the touchstart alert. If I scroll the touchend will fire and app__touchMoving will have some sort of decent value. On a side note, I've noticed that sometimes the touchend will seem to fire multiple times.
Am I missing something basic here? Plenty of people say that this should work just fine on Android (and iPhone) yet the first listener never seems to fire.
Update: I should mention that I've been testing on a Samsung Galaxy S running Android 2.1.

I have a ListActivity and I want to implement context menu for each of the list elements. I know that the common way to do this is to show the context menu on long click/tap. I want to know if there is a way to show the context menu for each element on a key press(preferably the menu key).To rephrase my question, how can I trigger the context menu and not the options menu by pressing the menu key(or any other key).

I have a situation where I have some textview on a framelayout that I have a onTouch event wired in order to simulate dragging. I alos want to enable the ability to have a context menu display when the user long presses the textview. Now that I have implemented the context menu functionality dragging no longer works since the longpress is always served by the context menu event.Does anyone know of a workaround for this.

I have a TextView with its MovementMethod set to LinkMovementMethod. Text added to the TextView is a combination of normal text and URLs. For URLs, I would like to offer a context menu when the URL is long pressed for doing things such as copying the address. I've had a look at the source for LinkMovementMethod but it doesn't seem to have any long pressed related code I could override. Any ideas on how to go around achieving this?

I am setting setEnabled = false for a Context Menu item. The item appears grayed out ... but I can still click on it. When I do, the menu closes. This does not seem to like the correct behavior to me.
Is this a bug or a misunderstood feature? Anyone else experiencing this? Using 1.6

While browsing, I often like to open a linked page in a new window, so do this via long pressing the link. However, it seems to me to be totally random whether long pressing a link brings up the context menu (which is what I usually want), or goes into text selection mode.
How do you control over which of these two actions occurs when long pressing a link?

I have a Nexus 4 running stock JB 4.2.2.
At some point (not sure when exactly) the long-press feature to bring up the context menu for links in Chrome stopped working.
When I long-press on a link, all that happens is I get a short vibrate, but no menu.
This means that I can no longer "Open in new tab".It's all working fine on my Nexus 7.

In my application has a ListView. When long press on item the "Context Menu" will appear. I want to check the data ID, then set disable/enable to my Context Menu "Items". I can not find out the function like getMenuInfo() or something like this.
@Override
public void onCreateContextMenu(ContextMenu menu , View v, ContextMenuInfo menuInfo)
{ super.onCreateContextMenu(menu, v, menuInfo);
menu.add(0, ADD_FAVORITE_ID, 0, "Check");
menu.add(0, ADD_FAVORITE_ID, 0, "UnCheck").setEnabled(false);}

How can I launch a contextmenu from a contextmenu? I'm trying to replicate the MediaPlayer action that happens when you long click a song, then click "Add to playlist" in the resulting contextmenu. When you click that menu item, another contextmenu pops up with "Add to playlist" as the title, and "Current playlist", "New", and however-many-playlists-you-have defined after that.

I have heavily edited the original text and instead of the how question I am posting the code that produces the effect I wanted, namely a floating menu on top that stays fixed as I scroll whatever is in the middle with a lower menu at the bottom of the screen. Ain't life sweet - Might even work on the iPhone as well.
Why I posted was like I said in the original question. I'm fiddling with creating the initial lay out for a "mobile" application for the disabled, have tonnes of data, dictionary files, icons for the purpose etc. I want to have the app running as HTML to make it as portable as possible, i.e. make it runnable on Android, Iphone, Maemo... whatever.
I got some hints by looking at the example at http://www.quackit.com/css/codes/css_floating_menu.cfm as well as a lot of trial and error and finally minor edits by a paid freelancer.
Below you can find some crude (to put it mildly) HTML/CSS (cut the CSS part and load a style instead in the HTML's you create for cleaner code) but for now, let's look at the prototype concept.
CODE:...........
You can see the working example on your Android device or in your Android emulator http://globability.org/webapp/aaa.html
Need to get the sound working though - but nearly there :)Links to the different web based version and thoughts behind application can be found on:
The project this application springs from can be found on [url] - Look under prototypes (it is the top one under the heading protypes).

I'm not highly familiar with javascript but I think this is the best way to accomplish my purpose. If not, please correct me. I have a licence text 2 buttons at the end. All of this is written in HTML in a WebView because there are some links in the licence. Now, I want that when the user clicks the "ok" button in the WebView, this triggers some javascript or listener that I can grab in Java to fire an Intent to go forward in the application. (The cancel button would do the opposite, but if I know how to do one, I can do the other. Does this rings any bell to someone? Any explanation or sample code is welcome.

I have put HTML document into a string variable and load it by using webView.loadDataWithBaseURL(null, htmlString, "text/html", "utf-8", null).
After that, I tried two ways and want to execute javascript function "exec()" by using
1. webView.loadDataWithBaseURL(null, "javascript:exec()", "text/ html", "utf-8", null) -> This will overlap the content of previous "htmlString" and shows "javascript:exec()" on the screen.
2. webView.loadUrl("javascript:exec()") -> There will be "Can't find variable: exec line: ..." in Logcat
I have tried to output "htmlString" to a file located in sdcard, and tried to use webView.loadUrl("file:///sdcard/xxx/a.xhtml") + webView.loadUrl("javascript:exec()").
And...it fails again! how to execute javascript function after loading html content by "loadDataWithBaseURL"?

I'm planning to use the JavaScript interface to Java, to connect to Java methods that go to the network (or some other long-running function) and deliver the results via callback.
The flow is: 1. User clicks on a link in the WebView, which calls my Java code. 2. My Java code posts a worker Runnable to a Handler, and returns immediately. 3. The worker goes to the network, then makes a callback to the WebView.loadUrl("function('result')") to deliver the result.
I made an example that sleeps inside the Runnable. The entire WebView becomes unresponsive! What is the proper way (if any) of implementing a long-running JavaScript call?
Is it safe to call loadUrl() from multiple threads?

I have a ListView with a ContextMenu, it has one CheckBox (the CheckBox has android:focusable="false") and one TextView per row, but you can hide the TextView in the preferences menu. After doing that, the CheckBox wasn't registering the ContextMenu, so of course, why not register For Context Menu(cb) and unregisterForContextMenu(getListView())? Yes, i did that, but then, when when i call the delete command of onContextItemSelected, the app crashs. AdapterContextMenuInfo info=(AdapterContextMenuInfo)item.getMenuInfo(); db.deletarTarefa(info.id);

I have a context menu option that, when clicked, will load some information from the web and insert it into a database.So this is a lengthy process and I would like to display a progressdialog over the top of the context menu when this option is selected.I've got the progressdialog running now, but it won't show up.It's almost like the context menu is covering it.So is there a way that I could get the progressdialog to show up on top of the context menu and be visible to the user.
