HTC Desire :: Battery Running Out Fast Sometimes Not Getting Incoming Calls / 63% Is Normal?
Jun 30, 2010
I have my desire from the end of april. Everything was ok, battery runs about 30-50 hours depending on the load til last week monday. I start to receive a sms about missed calls and peoples tell me what then they call me operator says that phone is out of reach. Now the battery runs only a day. about 12 hours.
I take a look into Battery use and there shows that Android system uses about 63% Is this normal?

Has anyone noticed extremely fast battery drain while browsing the internet? I can use Facebook, play games, look at wikidroid, etc. and battery life seems "normal" but while using the browser it will use 10 percent in 10 minutes. I have timed it, I was at 60 percent, browsed the forums here for 10 minutes and was at 51 percent afterwards. Is this normal?
I am rooted and have 2.2, I have tried the stock browser and Dolphin HD and both do the same thing.

Question for others who use a Bluetooth headset with their Droid X. I was on a call using my headset for about an hour. During that time, my battery went from 100% down to 60%. Is this normal? This was with a phone I pulled fresh off the charger. When I make calls just using the phone without Bluetooth, it barely drains at all. Anyone else experiencing this?
I went to the Verizon store and the guy there basically said that this phone only had 3 hours of talk time and that is why it drained so much and that with the Bluetooth on it would make it worse. I've used other phones with Bluetooth and not seen battery drain like this.

how should I create a service that would keep on running in the Background and listen for incoming and outgoing calls? I don't want the service to die at any point in time.I have created a Broadcast Receiver in my service class that is set for ACTION_PHONE_STATE_CHANGED action. In my BroadcastReceiver, I have set up a PhoneStateListener that would listen for changes in phone states. Is this the right approach?

I had been using IMEasy for its multiple-account capability, I found my phone running warm when multiple accounts were connected though, and the battery drained fast; down to 70% in 3 hours in a poor signal area. I thought it was the poor signal. Installed Trillian yesterday, it's connected to 3 IM accounts and after 5 hours I'm only down to 90%, in the same area. I've been a happy Trillian user on the PC, I already had an Astra account from that so setup was SIMPLE. I HIGHLY suggest this app, though it's still in Beta and it IS missing a couple options I would like they're not critical issues to me, and I'm sure they'll fix them.
Beta is available from their site, Trillian - IM, Astra, Windows Live, Facebook, Twitter, Yahoo, MySpace, AIM, Email, and more!
I know this sounds like an ad but I'm just a happy customer.
The 2 missing items (maybe one really) are the ability to set the notification tone in the app and the ability to change the notification LED color in the app.

As the subject asks, why does it drain the phone so much? On my nokia symbian phone, it is connected to my asterisk box 24/7 over wifi and will last for days.
My galaxy nexus will drain out in hours if connected via wifi to my asterisk box. The SIP qualifys are every 60 seconds.
How to get decent battery life for incoming SIP on ICS?
A somewhat related question I have; does any app that will enable incoming SIP only when on wireless?

Noticed today that every time I get an incoming call and answer, the caller cant hear me talking. When I call them back they hear me fine, but when I answer an incoming call they can not hear me. This just started happening today.

I'm not sure if it's an issue with my Desire or my SIM card or network (T-Mobile). Basically, I will have a full signal but if a person tries to call me will be forwarded to my voicemail. I will then receive a text informing me that I have a missed call. Also, when calling a contact, there will sometimes be a long delay before it finally connects and begins to ring.

I've been using my Desire for three days now, and been quite happy with it. Except for the fact that I can barely get three hours of battery life out of it, with "normal" use. (A couple of text messages/MSN conversations, quick web browsing every now and then). I've tried everything, turning syncs to 6 hours intervals, switching off 3G and WiFi, reducing screen brightness etc.
But the battery still loses about 1% per 1 minute. This can't be normal, right? Is this something that will improve over time? Could I have a faulty battery that needs replacing? I don't have unrealistic expectations for the battery life, just lasting for a full working day is enough for me, and I assume that should be possible.

So I was cycling home from work listening to some music on my Desire through the headphones via Meridian music player. During the trip home the music muted for 10 seconds or so and then re-started. I checked the phone and noticed that I had a missed call. My phone was set to vibrate only. I didn't feel it vibrate in my pocket whilst cycling. When I've listened to music before I've always heard some notification through the headphones when a call, text or email has come through but I can't be sure that the phone was on vibrate on these occasions.
Can anyone confirm that when using the headphones with the phone on vibrate you will not get an audible notification when a call, text or email comes through? If this is the case its a bit annoying because if its an email I am happy to wait till I get home but if its a call I want to take it straight away. With no audible notification you have no way of knowing whats come through.

So, after getting rid of my iPod Touch and a lovely Sony Ericsson Elm, I'm in the possession this beautiful device. I've been currently using this device as my main music player as well, it seems very good (apart from no equalizers).
The problem is, the music player seems to drain the battery pretty fast. I've been searching around and people have said to have gotten max 7 and a half hours on a full battery? Compared to even the iPhone 3g, which I know is UP TO 24 hours, but that doesn't ever mean you'll get full time, probably 15 or 16 hours, thats very poor.

in spare parts, under other usage, My Wi-Fi on and Wi-Fi Running percentages are ALWAYS the same... right now sitting at 99% each. Surely Wi-Fi on should be at 99%, but Wi-Fi running should be considerably lower since I don't have any form of auto sync or location based things on.I can keep my phone on for 12 hours, Wi-Fi enabled, and Wi-Fi running is always full, at 99 odd percent. Nothing is using the wi-fi, even when i choose to forget my wifi details so there is no connection. I suspect it may have something to do with the root process "0" under Network usage under Battery history in spare parts. I'm thinking it's keeping my Wi-Fi active and draining my batt, even if it's not pulling any data.I've completely uninstalled every app (except spare parts), wiped cache and dalvik, put phone on Aeroplane mode, nothing changes. Facebook app isn't updated to 1.3 or 1.3.1 either.Really at wits end as to why my Wi-Fi is "running" at 100% all the time. Here are my details: HTC Desire rooted with Clockwork from latest Unrevoked. Rom is Official Sense + Froyo from OpenDesire Team v1.0c

I think my Battery just hit a turning point in its life. For whatever reason I got exceptionally good battery life yesterday. I had it unplugged for 20 hours and it was only down to 52% Remaining by the time I was going to bed. Usually, I only get maybe 18-20 Hours with 10-20% left. My usage was if anything higher than usual too throughout the day. Listening to music/videos/texting/emailing/testing apps for a fair bit of the day.The only thing I did differently that morning was unplug it like normal (when I woke up and it was at 100)%, then plug it back in about 10 seconds later for another 5 Minutes before heading out the door. Would that have caused this peculiarity in my battery consistency.

Is there any way to have the phone show me if it's a GV call as opposed to a call to my cell number? My hope was to put my GV number on my resume and be able to tell if it was an employer calling. But so far, in my tests, I can't tell if the inbound number called my GV or my cell.

After the 2.2 update, my battery has been starting to be extremely bad. I recharged it yesterday until it was 100% charged. Now, 18 hours later, the battery is at 15%.
I only used my HTC Desire to do this:
1. Listening to offline songs through Wimp, a Spotify-clone, for about an hour.
2. Texting 3-4 sms.
3. Doing 1 call.
4. Having it on while I was asleep.
My battery was usually lasting 3-4 days with this kind of use, but now it's so bad.
Here are the running apps (if that is of anyones interest):
com.fd.httpd - 2.9MB
net.rgruet.android.g3watchdog - 2.9MB
com.metago.astro - 2.8MB
com.aspiro.wamp - 10MB
com.lookout - 4.4MB
com.htc.bgp - 12MB
com.google.process.gapps - 7.6MB
com.facebook.katana - 14MB
com.swype.android.inputmethod - 15MB
Does anyone suffer from something similar?

Every 6 - 12 months,I wipe my Windows laptop and start again, because uninstalling programs always leaves traces behind and eventually lots of stuff is left behind. My question is,would it be a good idea to do the same with my Android handset?I've noticed that sometimes an app will remember its previous settings if its uninstalled and reinstalled later.Does this mean loose files and settings are being missed? Does anyone else already do this?

I have had my evo for a little over a month now and I love it, only problem is it wont accept any incoming calls anymore. At first it would accept some but now it I don't get any. I updated to froyo today hoping it might fix something but no luck. I took it to sprint a few days ago he updated it and said see if it works now if it doesn't take it to the repair shop and if they cant fix it then they will give you a new one but I don't know how you'll be able to get a new one because we don't have any. I would rather not get a new one because I got the invisible shield put on my phone and I would rather not have to waste money getting a new one/putting it on. Has anyone else heard of evos doing this or know of anything that could make this happen? Everything else works fine on the phone.

Is it possible to set up a number (e.g. Google Voice or something else) and link that number to your mobile #, such that who ever calls you first dials the "proxy" number and the proxy is what directs them to you?
I ask because I have the 10 friends and family thing and I'd like to do a "one to many" by placing my proxy number on the list of numbers (so calls aren't deducted from my plan's minutes) and having certain people dial that number to get to me.
That way, the incoming number would (in theory) be the proxy number and therefore static, so that I could talk to non-Verizon people without the calls eating into my minutes.
I know one question will be: "So why not just list that phone number on your 10 friends and family list?"
Answer: Because I want a dummy proxy number so that, if I ever (i.e. can't anticipate which numbers they'll be) need to make a long call to a non-Verizon #, I can just have them dial that proxy number.
Make sense? Is this possible?
I also heard from a friend once about SIP or PBX virtual hosting to get all my calls onto VoIP through 3G or WiFi. That's something else that sounds like it works (because that person mentioned they were setting it up) and I may try if I can't do what I'm requesting above.

I was trying to come up with an app that works on the call that a user gets on his phone. For this I wanted to know whether it is possible for me to get intimated when a call comes to the phone and is it possible to intercept the same.I tried to go through quite a few forums but could not get conclusive evidence on how to achieve this.Does anyone have an idea whether this is feasible and if so then how?

I LOVE my EVO, but I have all my notifications set to vibrate which I like, except when I receive an incoming phone call, instead of just vibrating every 2 seconds or so, the thing goes into bezerk crazy vibrate mode, it's quite annoying and loud.Especially if I am sitting in a meeting and I get a call, every other phone I've had in my life just vibrates every few seconds, until it either goes to voicemail, or I ignore the call to stop the vibrating. So is there anyway to keep the EVO from vibrating so ferociously?I mean it doesn't even stop to breathe just one vibrate right after another.
