What are the advantages/disadvantages in placing a lengthy network access code in a thread in an activity or a thread in a service? How would it affect the application? I am writing a streaming audio player and from what I've read so far putting the code in a service will still end up blocking the application so a new thread is needed, does anyone know if it makes more sense to put this piece of code in a service.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI purchased my moment about 2 weeks ago and have been having fun figuring it out however there are some areas where I am having problems.
1. When you want to attach a document it selects the picture folder/area, how do you browse instead of being forced into that area.
2. I downloaded ringtone app and have found the app quite useful, the problem I am having is, the ringtones I have created don't show up in all the ringtone areas of my phone, what needs to be done to correct this.
3. The basic user guide that comes with the phone says there is an app I can download called samsung new pc studio. When I call sprint or samsung they say this app is not available or can't be used by a casd(the u.s. standard, I think casd is right), they say this software is only for the other standard, I did find this app on the web. Is what sprint and samsung saying true if not can I use the ones I found on the web.
4. If you could choose only ten apps to have(free)which ones would you choose?
I used the htc ringtone trimmed for one of the song in my music library on my phone and I'm sorry if there is already a thread for this but how are you able to delete these ringtones when you no longer want them? The program its self works fine for making ringtones but I cannot find anyway to delete them. I even looked in Astro. If someone doesnt mind could they please lend some advice on this. I've searched in the forums and I havnt found a solution to it.

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy fiance upgraded from LG Voyager to Droid 2. She wanted her old ringtones from the Verizon Media store so she downloaded them. When she stored them they were given default names. I was able to make the appropriate ringtone associations, except for voicemail. I have 2 questions:
1. How do you set a ringtone for voicemail? When I run the standard voicemail app (Verizon) I cannot being up a menu.
2. How do I change the name of a ringtone file?
I'd like to set a new default ringtone without using the ringtone picker. In other words, there is a certain ringtone that is already installed on my system, and I want to programmatically set it to be my default ringtone without any human interaction. The reason I want this is because every time I reboot my N-1, my previous default ringtone setting gets forgotten, and I am given another ringtone that I don't like. I want to set up an app that I can run manually (or better yet, to cause to automatically run upon startup) which will reset my default ringtone to the one that I like without my having to manually do this via the Settings.
The only examples I have found so far for doing this involve using the ringtone picker, but as far as I can tell, this requires human interaction, which I want to avoid.

But when I am in Settings for Notification Ringtones, I do not see the mp3 I added but only in Calling Ringtones. Why is this? I want to use the same ringtone for notifications too!.

The application is Scan2PDF Mobile which uses your phone's camera to "scan" documents and make PDF files which can be saved or emailed from the phone. The pages are enhanced and compressed and then made into a multi-page PDF. Think of it as having a scanner, photocopier and fax machine in your pocket/Sicen Scan2PDF Mobile has been on the Adroid market it is proving very popular, getting an average rating of 4.7. It is unlike any other app on the market and in our opinion would be a good candidate for the featured list - so how do we go about it?

Although she wants it to be small so I did my research and all I came up with is the Wildfire.However I've read that the screen resolution is much lower than on the Desire. Is that a real problem? These are all things that you should of known when buying the phone. No one forced you to buy it so please stop complaining about irrelevant issues. If you have a real problem post in the troubleshooting thread or return the phone. No one cares if your returning your phone. Not trying to rant but its getting ridiculous.

I've looked at Jeff Sharkey's SeparatedListAdapter and CommonsWare's MergeAdapter as examples of how to achieve this, and I now have a solution which works by providing a separate adapter for the content of each section. This creates a big performance problem, though. In my case, there are potentially thousands of items in the list, each with an associated date, and I want to use the date as section heading for all the items with that date. So, without section headings, I'd have a single Cursor which returns the items sorted by date. Nice and easy. With section headings, I'm currently doing this: One Cursor to select all distinct dates in the dataset. For each distinct date, a separate Cursor to return the items matching that date. Pour the dates (section headings) and separate SimpleCursorAdapters for each date's items, into my custom adapter.

Now I am almost sure I opened the Market since I have been back home and remember seeing the "paid" apps section with the prices in euros.Now when I access the market I don't have a "paid" apps section. Whilst it was in the "Just In" section I was seeing decent download numbers, but since then interest seems to have dropped off significantly. I think now people can only find my app through a specific keyword search, which doesn't make me particularly confident about it ever becoming popular.
What can you do when your app has passed the 'Just In' stage but has not reached the 'Featured' stage? The majority of applications seem to be in this middle stage so I think other people must have a similar problem. It seems like the 'Featured' section just makes the popular apps more popular, and makes it really difficult for newer apps to ever catch up with them. Does anyone know if the situation with the Apple App Store is any different?
It seems to be possible to refresh your app and make it appear in the 'Just In' section again if you update it sometime after, but I can't find any real guidelines on this. Is anyone familiar with the specific rules for this, and is repeatedly riding the 'Just In' buzz the only viable strategy for a new app?
