General :: Punctuation In Google Voice Dictation
Oct 9, 2013
I want to use google voice dictation, but advanced punctuation like quotation marks and parentheses and next line, do not show up when I dictate. it also doesn't like to capitalize the first letter of a sentence.
Dragon seems to handle it well, but I can't use dragon with the Samsung note keyboard.

OK, I just updated my phone to JB (from ICS), and the one thing that I do not like about JB is that the voice dictation feature took one step back. In ICS, I had continuous voice dictation, which allowed me to take long pauses in between sentences. In JB, the voice dictation automatically stops if there's a pause longer than a couple of seconds. This is incredibly annoying.
Is there any way possible to get continuous voice dictation in JB?? I use this feature a lot, and it's such a nuisance always having to tap the microphone button after any type of pause.

It seems there is a general voice search / voice recognition issue with non-english languages. The problem is basically that punctuation is written in plain and not recognized. It seems to affect a number of devices (if not all?) running ICS / JB.
So period will write "period" and not "." .
Same for comma that will end in writing "comma" and not ",".
(this of course in each different Language)
This basically makes the voice recognition totally unusable and useless for anything but English. So far, this issue has been reported with the following languages:
French
German
Spanish
Italian
I'm not allowed to post links yet but if you go to Android official project page, in the Issues and search for punctuation, you'll basically see all those.

Using JellyBean 4.2.2 on my LG G2, I wanna know which of the three accents you guys have better accuracy when dictating offline (English US OR English UK OR English Australia)?
Is it any better in Android 4.4.2 KitKat (which I'm waiting for within Q1 of 2014)?

I need a decent voice dictation recording application that will run on my Droid-X. About the only thing I've found is a horrible app called Dictosyl by a French company caled Sylpheo. What I really want is an Android version of Dictamus for the iPhone/iPod Touch by Jotomi.
Dictamus has all of the features that make it perfect for lawyers, physicians and other executives who need to be able to dictate for someone else to transcribe. Dictamus has the ability easily pause, rewind and insert (destructive and non-destructive insertion). The resulting sound file can be sent via email, uploaded to a Dropbox.com account to an iDisk account, to an ftp server or to any of online transcription services (eg. SpeakWrite) It can send automatic email notifications to someone after an upload has been made. It can record continuously for more than 24 hours.
On a 5 star scale, I'd give Dictamus 6 stars. But it's not available for Android. And what I can find (using search terms "dictate," "dictation" and "recorder") for Android I wouldn't even give one star. Although I use SpeakWrite's transcription service occasionally, their mobile apps (for iPhone, for Android, for Blackberry) are just terrible -- and they make it very difficult to send the recording to anyone but their own service. I prefer to have my secretary transcribe most of my work. Although I like SpeakWrite's service, I only use them when my secretary is not available.

Would it be possible to add a line of code to the Google Hangouts app on Android to receive forwarded Google Voice calls as it does on the iOS app?
There's been apps like Groove IP that are already able to provide this feature. I'd just like to have this functionality without having to install any 3rd party apps that always have to be running in the background. Google Hangouts is already the primary sms app for Android & so it is already able to receive texts, mms, along with video and voice chats. Thus, it should be somewhat possible to receive call forwarding from Google voice.

I finally changed the voicemail system on my Hero from Sprint's "visual voicemail" (which is misleading because it doesn't transcribe voicemails) to Google Voice. It's nice to see my transcribed voicemails now. However, when I actually want to hear them (if the transcription didn't work well), it only comes through the external speaker; the speaker on the back of the phone. I went into Google Voice settings and under "Voicemail Playback" I tried the only two options: "Play via Handset" and "Play via Speaker." Unfortunately, both play through the speaker phone speaker. How do I change it to the phone speaker? I also can't adjust the volume, so the whole world hears my voicemails through the external speaker.

I changed the voice mail number from *86 (version default) to my Google voice number. This works when I am not answering the phone and I the caller gets connected to my GV account. But when my phone is not in coverage the caller gets my version voice mail. Appreciate if someone can correct my settings or suggest any app that does it. I am from Windows mobile world and missing those settings when you can define several settings for voice mail (unanswered, rejected, unavailable etc...)

I tried searching for the question I'm about to ask and didn't find any threads so here it goes. Can someone post the steps to setting up Google Voice as visual voice mail for the Captivate? I know it's probably something very simple but I just can't figure it out ( yes, I'm a bit slow ).

Okay so about a month ago I decided to try out google voice on my nexus s 4g. I had thought it was just a voicemail service, I didn't know it affected your calls and texts as well. I didn't like it so I signed off. But two weeks later my phone started doing that call screening thing where you have to press 1 every time you answer a call. I went back on google voice, signed back on, and found that it had intercepted all of my texts calls and voicemails and kept them without telling me. I just need to know if there's a way to stop it. I would uninstall it if I could.

Ive been looking everywhere for about a week now and searches tend to only display info about google voice OR tethering not google voice specific to tethering which is my issue.
I have a Nexus 7 with PDANet Tablet and Google Voice and I have my (cheap) smartphone with PDANet and FoxFi
I can pair my phone and tablet up just fine and do a bluetooth tether with no issues I use it with Spotify while in the car daily. Other apps and Chrome work fine I can do pretty much whatever using the tether.
But when I try to send a txt with GV from the tablet it just says Queued and never ever sends.

I've got a Galaxy S3 with sprint and I absolutely detest the SVoice application. I use the bluetooth in my car and want to get to the google now app when I push my handsfree button in the car. Everything is stock from Sprint and the phone is not rooted so I'm still on Android 4.1.2
When I pushed the handsfree button before it took me to SVoice.
I followed a tutorial I found on YouTube and I disabled the SVoice application and downloaded an app called bluetooth launch.
I followed the instructions, but when I press the button now it takes me to a screen that looks like this:
This seems very limited in functionality and it doesn't really work well for me. I can't set reminders from it or take notes and the speech recognition seems sub-par.
How can I make this take me to the google screen that I see here when I launch "Voice Search" app"
I didn't see anything in the Bluetooth Launch app that allowed me to pick an application to launch so I'm not sure where to go now.

I let Google Now set itself up on my S3 about 2-3 months ago. I thought it was kinda cool but I didn't feel like messing with it too much at the time. I did, however, see the "Search, or say Google" feature. I spoke the word "Google" and sure enough it activated, and I spoke the generic, "Where is the nearest restaurant?" just to see how it worked, and several restaurants were shown. Pretty cool, but like I said, I wasn't in the mood to dig into it much deeper at that time.
Fast forward to last night. I had some time on my hands and thought I would mess with this "Google Now" thing I've been reading about more and more. I add the Google Now widget to one of my pages easily enough. Then I tap it to get it started, and I see the familiar, "Search, or say Google" and I'm ready to play. "Google", I say. Nothing. I repeat it... "Google". Still nothing. I tap the microphone, and the screen changes to the Google logo in the upper left, a flashing red microphone in the upper right, and the words "Speak now" show up in the middle of the screen. Again, I do the "Where is the nearest restaurant?", just like I did before, and I wait for its response. The text from my question shows up on screen, but the mic in the upper right is still pulsing. I wait for about 30 seconds and finally tap the mic icon, thinking that will activate the question. No... it just goes back to the previous screen. I try this several times with different questions, each getting a bit more prophanity-laced as I'm losing patience. Finally I give up.
Then I see if my wife has Google Now activated on her Note 2. She doesn't, so I grab the widget and throw it on an empty screen. I tap the widget and Google Now starts. I see the "Search, or say Google", so I sternly say, "Google". It activates, I ask for the nearest restaurants, and it shows me several in the area. Why won't it work on my S3 anymore? I check the settings for voice and see Hotword detection is checked. I compare my settings to the settings on my wife's Note 2 and they're identical.

I switched from sprint to Verizon so i'm assuming it has something to do with that. I noticed that I no longer got text messages on my google voice app on my phone or on the google voice site. My ability to send text messages on the app is gone, and the text button on the main site disappeared.

I do receive txts and voicemails when the Google Voice number is called via notifications from the Voice app. However, is their a way to have the Google Voice number ring if someone calls it and ring separate from my personal cell phone number?

My girlfriend is getting a smartphone from work, and wanted to get rid of her personal line. She wants to port her personal number to Google Voice, so that she doesn't have to tell everyone her work number. Will porting automatically cancel that line from AT&T or should she call first? If she ported the number and for whatever reason decided she wanted to use it for a personal line again, could she port that number back back to a carrier?
Also, does Google Voice work the same on iPhone?

I have a Nexus 5 with 4.4.2 installed. I tend to use the built in voice to text feature often, but recently I noticed it no longer mutes background playback (Play Music or Pandora for example). It used to do this, and I cannot figure why. I've tested this out with both Swiftkey and the default keyboard (I believe it doesn't matter since they're both using the Google Voice Typing feature).
