I have used partitions on my old rooted phone where I thought the sd card had crashed because of partitioning it. Now I have removed the partition and I am still getting problems. Then I formatted my whole micro sd card using windows.
Whenever I insert my sd card into windows via my phone, it asks me to format it. Why has micro sd partitioning wrecked my sd card???!!

I successfully rooted my Samsung Galaxy Blaze phone, installed Titanium BackUp and now would like to send my app data to my nice 16GB SDHC card. The problem is, I can't get it partitioned probably because my laptop's card reader can't really read SDHC cards, even in adapters. It recognizes that the card is there, but then wants to format it and won't format it. I tried using the Mini Tools Partition Wizard, but each attempt failed, claiming I had a bad card. The card works beautifully in the phone, so I don't think that's the problem, especially since brand new cards get the same reaction.
Is there a way to partition the card from my phone? I have good reason to believe that my memory problems have a lot to do with the boatload of email I have saved in GMail, or the fact that Google+ somehow decided I really needed *all* of my photos on my phone, via Picasa (another source of angst and muttering).
I'm making a partition on my (clean) micro SD card to use to increase my phone's internal storage. The intent was to go from 200 or so MB to 8 GB, because some apps can't be moved to the SD card and must be on the phone's storage. My question is, can I give the partition a certain format (FAT, FAT32, NTFS, EXT2, EXT3, Unformatted, etc.) and have it work, or is there more I need to do?

So I have 2 reports now of my app causing a crash/reboot cycle the user can't always break from. I cannot reproduce this on my phone, and I am wondering what might be causing something like this? Would running out of memory or something cause this? Because I can't reproduce it, I can't look at the logs or anything.
Has anyone experiences anything similar? For reference, my app runs a foreground service which utilizes the AlarmManager. It starts automatically on boot_completed (which is probably why the cycle happens). One of the users who reported this, said it only happened when they plugged their phone into a PC.
i cannot seem to find anything on partitioning the sd card. those that have, what have you done?

Phone reboots and when I check the file manager on my SD card, it reads my SD card has 7069M left. Is it partitioned? if so how can I make my apps Run off of it? If it is, NOW WHAT? How do I use it to actually install Apps on it and Make my Phone faster?

I seriously have tried guys and not just being lazy. So, I've bought a new SD card and I want to use apps2sd+ which is built into the LeeDroid rom that I have managed to flash using ClockworkMod Recovery. The problem I have is making a partition on my card. I've downloaded Rom Manager but when it goes to do its stuff, it reboots with an exclamation mark and a droid. What/where am I doing or going wrong?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a 16 GB SDcard. I have used it on my Samsung Galaxy Ace for around 8 months now and it has worked fine. Today I when I tried connecting it to my laptop to update my music I faced some problems.
My computer detects it and displays all files, but I am unable to make any changes to the the folders/files i.e. delete, cut or copy new files onto it. I was also unable to format it. So I formatted it via the phone itself and tried it on my laptop again. I am still unable add new files to it. However, it works without any problems on my phone.
Since I do not have my the USB cord, I am using a Samsung Micro SD adapter to access it on my laptop.
Or if this is no longer possible as I suspect it may not be. Is there a way for me to switch external memory with eternal memory

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to figure out if one it is possible for an SD card to cause my phone to become unstable (like spontenously rebooting, heating up, etc), i think the answer is yes as I have tried using the phone for a few days with and without the card and it does indeed seem more stable without the card but its less clear about if its the card or whats on the card. I tried formatting the card and thought at first that it was more stable but then it seemed to start acting up again (I can't sit and watch it all day and sometimes its not obvious that it has restarted, sometimes it just shuts down). I have also tried different versions of RR, tinkered with neartrom (not long enough to be sure though) but still stability issues.
Is there a way to see If my card is someway corrupted? or If the phone is just not liking this card or any cards? A friend let me use their card for awhile and my phone was still acting up (rebooting, freezing, overheating). I prefer to to figure out exactly what the problem is before I fork out the money for a new card; it seems illogical that a sdcard in general should make a phone act up like this but I am running out of ideas (going out and getting a new phone would be even more painful than getting a new sdcard so I am really hoping to figure this out as it seems to run ok when no card is inserted).
btw, I the card is a sandisk ultra 64gb microsdxc card, its worked for like 2 years (I stored music and backups on it mainly, most the r/w stuff was from daily podcasts).
I rooted a few weeks back and very happy with everything apart from I keep getting low on space notification for my phone storage, when I rooted I didn't bother with partitioning my sd card as read about Mod Install Location which basically forces apps to be installed onto the sd card and didn't think I would need to install anything on my internal storage but it seems I keep getting low storage notification. So I am assuming some of the apps I install have to use a little bit of the internal memory? I used Cache Mate and checked all the apps etc. So considering doing the partitioning to trick my phone to think it has more space but wondering will I lose everything or have to back it up? Or any other tips to free up internal space as it seems ROM I am using (neophyte 1.6) didn't free up much space.

Using stock Android 4.1.2 on LG Optimus Pro G. Am I hitting some subfolder limitation or something?

Here's what's interesting to me...If I go START>COMPUTER>RIGHT CLICK>MANAGE>COMPUTER MANAGEMENT>DISK MANAGEMENT...IF I have the SD card connected to the computer, then that box freezes right there and stops responding...If I disconnect the SD card, box automatically pops up and shows the hard drives on the computer. Plug it back it, that box stops responding again.
Another intersting note...Now AUTOPLAY is attempting to pop up and run...it keeps running the bar back and forth like it's attempting to read, but then it just disappears. If I go to MY COMPUTER and look, I can see the F DRIVE there...but when I attempt to click on it...It just freezes that box as well, stops responding and I have to force close it.
With the AutoPlay kicking on and MY COMPUTER recognizing the F Drive, that leads me to believe that the card itself isn't 100% toast and recoverable...Has the controller module on the card gone out?
And FWIW, I have tried getting the card to read on Windows XP, Windows Vista, Linux and OS-X...The AutoPlay that it's doing now is on an XP machine. Obviously, I can't attempt to salvage any files if I can't get the computer to atleast recognize (and continue to recognize) the card.
So I've tried and tried again using RA and other linux based programs (GParted) to get my 8GB card to partition for apps2sd. Everything always runs smoothly and shows that the card is partitioned correctly. But then upon reboot the SD card shows full fat32 memory (6.9 GB). No matter what I do, after reboot, the partitions never happen. When I used GParted, and then loaded the SD card on the phone it always says that the SD card is damaged and I need to reformat. I've done that and rerun everything to no avail. Someone please tell me this issue is that the SD card is corrupted and I should give up. Because I've followed everything to a T as far as partitioning. With that I'll say that I had no problems rooting my phone, flashing ROM's/RA's, etc, and have been able to do whatever I want as far as new things to load. I've finally decided after all this time to do apps2sd, and I literally screwed around for 5+ hrs today, trying to partition the SD card properly. Any thoughts?

Everything is working great except for some reason my external SD card (A 64 GB SanDisk MicroSD) is read only. The only thing I can do with it is to format it. Otherwise all write operations to it fail.
I have tried two different cards and several different apps (Terminal, Astro File Manager for instance) and none of them can write to the device.
I am almost thinking it is a matter of a missing new permission but I can't find anything in the SDK docs about it (If this is the case that is fine because my main use of the card is a home made music player that I've written).

I have a 64gb MicroSD card installed, and put a copy of my photography website on it. I find I am unable to figure out a way to open it in Google Chrome.
I used ES File Explorer's FTP function to begin with, to copy files from my website to the card, and this worked beautifully. When I click on the index.html file on the card, the only options offered are HTML Viewer and some text editors. Chrome is not an option (Chrome is the default browser for my phone). I can try "Open as" and choose Chrome, but get the same error message as below.
If I long-press the file, and select Properties, I can copy the (full) Path for the file, but when I paste this into Chrome's URL bar, it won't open:
Access to the file was denied "The file at file:///storage/extSdCard/PhotoWebsite/index.html is not readable. It may have been removed, moved, or file permissions may be preventing access"
I have searched quite a bit, and tried various addresses, including localhost, localhost/mnt, content:, etc., etc., but nothing seems to work.
Ultimately I want to have a Bookmark in Chrome where I can view my website offline when necessary, but this seems to be more complex than would appear necessary.
I formatted my card per Radio Shacks instructions but in hindsight I should have checked to see what came preinstalled first. I am fairly sure that the HTC Sync installation file was on there, but I think there was some music as the music widget had a song on it but after the format there wasn't anything.

I know Class 6 is the fastest, so that's what I thought I wanted to get and I wanted to get a 16gb but it looks like it's $80 on Amazon. Now, that's damn expensive for 16gb of storage and I'm not used to buying storage for my phone since I've had an iPhone. Is it worth it to drop to a lower storage capacity or a lower speed? How much of a difference does the transfer speed make on the phone? Does it hinder the speed of the phone at all? Also, for those lucky bastards that got the HTC EVO ahead of time, what kind of card comes with it?

Few n00b questions to clear up if I can! 1) Once partitioned, I believe that all app data will be able to be installed on the SD, as opposed to leaving a few hundred KB's on the internal? If I make a direct copy of all SD Card contents, partition the SD, and copy back, will the App's still appear 'as normal', or is a fresh backup/install required? 2) If the answer to the first question is that I CAN simply copy back to the SD, can I then use the "Move to Phone" and "Move to SD Card" options to move ALL of the app data, including the original few hundred KB's originally on internal? Feel like a douche asking these just can't quite get my head around it trawling through the other threads.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWith the problems I've been hearing about the SD card that's included with the EVO, I've been in a quandary over what to do: I have an 8GB Class 6 MicroSD Card that I believe trumps the included Class 2 card that comes with the EVO, so I expect I will move everything over to that card....which begs the following - I've copied over all the photos, videos, documents, and music from my card to my PC. Should I just reformat the SD card in the device, and then copy these files over? Could I just use the SD card as I have it currently set up (I have it in my Hero at this point, running 2.1). Or should I copy the contents of the new card to my PC, add the files from my old card to that, reformat my Class 6 card, and then copy the files from the PC to this card?
