I am having trouble finding class or API in android documentation which can help me get battery usage statistics per application. I have read PowerManager class and BatteryManager but they are of no use .Though I can find applications like PowerTutor that do give you battery usage statistics per application, so I think its technically possible?

On my Droid it would actually show what was using the battery: Display, slacker, dolphin, live wallpapers, etc. On my X when I check battery usage the only thing it ever says is: display, cell standby, phone idle. It never shows live wallpaper, slacker, or anything else I run. I am wondering how much battery these other apps are using, particularly the live wallpaper. Any suggestions for a 3rd party app I can run for a couple days to see what is really using my battery.

how the Apps affect Battery usage. I'm using a Note 2 with the latest OS.
So, I wanted to know if the apps are still using battery power when I switch screens? When I press the center (home) button, it shows me thumbnail list of all the apps, areas I've been to or used. I can select and remove them from the list. I am wondering if they are still using battery power until I remove them from the list. If this does tend to use extra battery power, is there an app out there that will definitely turn off the app when I am not using it?
I just don't know how Android manages Memory/power. It just seems that I can watch my battery power decrease, even when it's not being used.

Have a brand new HTC One X+ (AT&T). Having an issue where after boot and sometimes all of the sudden during the day, the phone gets hot and battery level drops l like ton of bricks. Using Android Task Manager App and enabling monitor of system processes and selecting realtime monitor, I've traced the problems to "android.process.media". This appears to be something to do with Android scanning the device for media files (audio/video/etc) and creating some sort of database. I also usually see the "Music Enhancer" process which has to do with Beats Audio according to HTC (but I have Beats turned off.)
I've seen old threads of people with same problem and in some cases it had to do with a "corrupted" media file and they had to remove all media files and/or factory reset their device. I just spent an entire weekend customizing this device! Plus, how the heck do you prevent yourself from copying the corrupted file over if it was a corrupted mp3 or something?
I'm pretty sure my issue stems from the fact I used my media manager (Media Monkey) to sync over 2,800 audio files to the device. My collection is of high bitrate quality, about 16GB worth of music. I'm pretty sure this is what it is choking on. What I'm not sure of is if the Media Scan the Android device is performing is just a "normal check" for changes/addition/deletions to any of the media files. This of course would take a lot of time and CPU if it has to scan 2,800 files every reboot or periodically. It seems launching Google Play sometimes starts it too as I also sometimes see Google Play Service:Music or something like that (even though I don't stream any of my audio from Google Play.)
Im looking for an application to monitor data usage, i know there are a lot but im looking for one specifically,
My plan is in fact 2 plans, it is unlimited for social networks (1GB @ 4G then EDGE till month expires), and 100Mb for any other applications.
My idle cpu usage seems a little high and sporadic and I'd like to force them all to 0% when idle but still be able to receive background data like for instance my play store seems to use a continuous idle usage and a few others. I can freeze them with the System Tuner but I'd prefer to Globally force all apps to 0% usage so I'm getting say 1% usage at idle on occasion every hour or few hours? When I use System Monitor, I see my cpu usage kind of jumping from 0 to up to 35-40% while idling and I don't want these apps using any resources at idle. I'm trying to extend battery life a lot more.
My battery life is really good already since I have a 3600mah battery but I could get even better if I can dial in the usage at idle.
Is there application that can do that?
On another note, I can't seem to figure out why my Google Calendar won't open a "New Event" it just sits on the Loading... Screen

View 1 Replies View RelatedHere is a couple screens from my EVO. When it warns you to plug in the phone it also has a button to check usage that is built into the phone. Wish somone could build an app directly to this. As the battery was draining (almost dead) I left this screen up (waiting for it to die) total of 13hrs and 20+ min. It does not use any battery to check this. Look at how long it has been unplugged. The BT, Sprint Nav and Beautiful widgets never get killed by my task killer because these are a must for my job. I am a Professional Driver of 21 years and these are needed.

I got the System Panel application to help, but it doesn't see to give me a view of what application is using up the power.

View 6 Replies View RelatedAn hour after my G1 phone was fully charged, the "Battery Usage" showed me that my game had used 20% of the battery usage. Except, I never ran my game (I had run the game before starting the charge). I checked TasKiller, and it didn't list my game as running (my game also doesn't run any services). When I clicked on the details of the battery usage for my game, it didn't list anything under the "Use details" section. Is it possible to use battery, but not have anything listed under the "Use details" section?

I just got my droid x about 2 days ago, and I've gone through about 2 full cycles. So far I haven't been able to squeeze more than 6 hrs of use on it, so I installed spare parts to see if the GPS bug was affecting it.
Going through some usage information, I found that the "Android System" sensor usage was huge! Since 1hr 29min unplugged the Sensor has been on for 1hr 36min...weird.
Checking the total time since boot the sensor has been on 19 hrs. I have autobrightness turned off and I haven't come across any other posts that explain what uses the sensor.
I have been disturbed by how much battery it seems to use while it's sleeping. After much poking around and reading and using various system/battery/monitor apps in a non-methodical manner, I think I found it. I noticed that a process called 'compass' at /system/bin/akmd was persistent in utilization on my phone. While it only ever showed like 1-6% cpu utilization, it seemed to be showing it constantly. I uninstalled a 'compass' app I had DL'd from the market, but that had no effect.
With some searching, I found some threads over at XDA that discussed this process misbehaving in some recent builds, although the conversations didn't seem to be about the EVO. Nonetheless, I decided to disable the auto screen orientation (Menu -> Settings -> Sound & Display -> Display Settings/Orientation = unchecked) and lo and behold, I'm not sure the phone even uses battery in standby now! (exageration for effect...)
Now, this will require more testing, but it seems to be at the root of *my* battery issues. And I'm thinking after reading at XDA that this could be a broad problem. I'm also hopeful though, that this could be a relatively easy software fix for HTC/Google. Especially because I don't particularly find disabling the screen rotating an acceptable long term solution... but one I can live with for now, if it makes the HUGE battery gains it seems like it might.
I am running the new EVO on Sprint, not rooted, and I am looking for an application that can display active (and perhaps historical) network bandwidth usage based on the application(s) utilizing it.
So far the only one I have manged to come across is "NetMeter" from the market. While this shows active network activity, it does not single out applications.
Trying to figure out what's whoring out the bandwidth on my phone and how I can fine-tune the problematic applications. As I type this I am looking at ~10min of 3G usage totaling over 15MB so far, and from what I can tell I am not running anything that would require the downloading of said data chunk!
How to get application usage statistics on android? What I want is to access the time (in milliseconds) that each application is used.

Almost all of them say to go get Spare Parts app from the market and check you "partial wake usage".
I did that and 95% of my partial wake usage is from "Android System".
Is that normal? Anyone who is getting good battery life (20+ hours) - what do you see in the partial wake usage?

I am running GDE in the background (not my default home screen).
I am running the 0.3 rom.. and there is no battery usage under about phone.. its there on the droid am i missing something? Also to make it more stange when you get down to 15% it gives my a low battery warning i can either say yes or view battery usage.. but cant seem to find it anywhere in the menus.

Would ask this on their IRC channel but I think they would lynch me :P The max stable I get is 748 was running it for like 10 mins :P (768 wont boot) Was running mostly 691 and now 614 . But dont know what will the difference in power consumption be. For example when playing with the phone and it will have to go to the 691 will it hold a lot less? Or its just a minor difference?
View 10 Replies View Relatedthis thread directed at those that did not root or unlock their HTC desire but uses its original android.. before i go on, my standard usage is as follows, mostly sms using, a phone call or two, less than an hour of wifi browsing at night.. on android 2.1, my battery lasted roughly 2 days and a bit more.. after updating to android 2.2 via wifi through auto update on the phone. today was my third day after charging my phone to 100%.
its now almost 5pm, on my third day and my battery still has a whopping 40% of battery life left.. so just wondering whether anyone else have this miraculous boost of battery life with android 2.2 or not.
