I just moved to a Galaxy S3 (Tmo) from a rooted MyTouch 4G slide. I'm loath to root this phone due to some issues that arose with my last handset.
I got My Backup Pro, in large part to get my texts back, but also because I'm a petty little child and don't feel like losing the benefit of all of my time-wasting hard-earned progress on games like Angry Birds, Coin Dozer, Temple Run, and the like. When I tried restoring the app data for these games, I got nothin'. The data I backed up from the old phone seemed to avail me not at all on the new one, restore though I tried. and my feeble attempts at finding where the data goes using Astro made me feel about as tech-savvy as the coworkers I'm often called upon to assist with their phones or computers. (At least I got my texts ...)
Is it not possible to restore app data with this program (or any other way) without rooting?

I have a One V, and I want to backup atleast 30 wifi passwords I have stored on my device, but all the apps on play store require root.I can't do that as unlocking the bootloader will remove my phone data, so I'm asking :
If I unlock the bootloader and then restore data still with the stock ROM on, will it restore the wifi data automatically, and then hopefully I can back it up with a wifi backup app (cause there is no way to root device without unlocking the bootloader atm)? Here's what dashboard is showing as backed up:

I own a rooted THL w8s. Today, I accidentally deleted a folder from the root menu.
The story is this one; I was trying to install an app but it would fail installation. So I read in here that if i moved the apk file in the root browser/data/app it would then get installed.
So I copied the file, went to the app folder but I couldn't find how to paste it. So I exited the app folder, long pressed it and a menu popped up that had the choice move. Unfortunately, what was moved was the app folder from the root menu and now no app is working! Worse than that, is that Google Play isn't available any more!

I am getting ready to "try" to root my phone and the one bit of info that I would like to save is all the wireless hotspot locations/passwords I have collected. What is the best way to do this?
I am also wondering, I have read several threads on people rooting their phone back one version to the 2.05 I think it was. Why would you do that? I thought I read there is a 2.1 working root correct?

So I'm trying to root my phone, and Step 1 references copying a file into the "root" folder on the SD Card. There is no folder named "root," as far as I can tell. What folder is that referring to?

I've noticed a somewhat bothersome issue with the root folder of my phone's internal SD card. Perhaps it's lazy coding, perhaps I've missed a setting somewhere, but the root seems swamped with various folders by different applications. Is there no Application Data folder for these, using Windows terms?

I just bought a LG Nexus 5.With the iPhone, I could easily transfer all my data and backup my phone via iTunes. I've tried searching the web for similar software for android, and I have not really been able to find an iTunes replacement. I noticed that HTC and Samsung have sync managers, but I haven't been able to find one for LG. Also, I would prefer if I could find something that doesn't require cloud storage, as I like to have my backups and files locally on my Mac.
1: is there an iTunes replacement for android?
2: does LG have a sync manager?

OK, here's is my somewhat convoluted question: I am considering the purchase of an android tablet (Dell Venue 32 gb)...I want to take it on a vacation and use it, in addition to GPS and Email, to back up the files from my camera's SD card...Is this a practical idea and what would be the best way to go about it?

How can I perform a backup that will backup absolutely everything, including:
- the whole operating system
- All applications
- All data files
- Everything in /sdcard
I would ultimately be able to backup everything over USB, and restore it all also over USB, so that I could wipe the tablet, install something else, and get back to the point I was before I wiped it out. I have apps and data files, but I also have OS customisations and setup that I have to re-do if I re-install the OS.

I downloaded the Android 4.4.2 source code that turned out to be about 14GB with more than 4,00,000 files.
I want to back up the folder in some .tar or zip or similar archive so that I can start fresh if something goes wrong in the working copy. I tried making a .tar.gz archive but it gave file permission errors during extracting and won't extract anymore. So, how do I go about this ??

I've been using MIUI for a long time now but I wanna use regular Android now and I've like 7K SMS'es that I wanna bring with me. I've tried a whole bunch of SMS backup tools but they all seems to import the messages in a wrong order even though the dates are right. Extracting the messages from a Nandroid doesn't work because MIUI uses a different sms database format or something.

I have a rooted Samung Infuse with AT&T and am currently running ZEUS with few problems. I love this ROM but I am going to switch up and flash a newer ROM within the next few days. However, (back in January) before I got ZEUS, I went from the Stock ROM to MIUI and I used Titanium Backup to transfer all of my data. When I backed up contacts in the Stock ROM through Titanium and tried to restore them once I had MIUI, I kept getting force close messages that made the phone unusable because they were so frequent. I isolated the problem to be related with contacts and just deleted my saved contacts. The problem went away, but I ended up switching to ZEUS later, now with no contacts.
Anyway, I don't know if that was a random occurrence that happened only to me in my flashing process, but to avoid anything like that again, I'd like to be able to backup my contacts to Google. I've seen it mentioned several times here and on Google's site, but never did I find a how to or any sort of procedure. How to backup my contacts to Google?
