General :: Backing Up External SD Files On Tablet

Dec 3, 2013

OK, here's is my somewhat convoluted question: I am considering the purchase of an android tablet (Dell Venue 32 gb)...I want to take it on a vacation and use it, in addition to GPS and Email, to back up the files from my camera's SD card...Is this a practical idea and what would be the best way to go about it?

General :: Backing Up Android / Transferring Files?

Jan 18, 2014

I just bought a LG Nexus 5.With the iPhone, I could easily transfer all my data and backup my phone via iTunes. I've tried searching the web for similar software for android, and I have not really been able to find an iTunes replacement. I noticed that HTC and Samsung have sync managers, but I haven't been able to find one for LG. Also, I would prefer if I could find something that doesn't require cloud storage, as I like to have my backups and files locally on my Mac.

1: is there an iTunes replacement for android?

2: does LG have a sync manager?

General :: Files Not Visible On External MicroSDXC Card

Feb 28, 2013

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (US - Sprint) and received the following external memory card yesterday: Amazon.com: Kingston Digital 64GB MicroSDXC Class 10 Flash Card (SDCX10/64GB): Computers & Accessories

I was previously using an old 8GB class 6 miscroSDHC card with no problems. I removed that card form the phone, inserted the new card and formatted it (exFAT). The phone had no trouble seeing 59ishGB of the new card.

I removed the new card from my phone and inserted it into my laptop. The phone had created a folder called "LOST.DIR" but other than that the card was empty. I created a folder called "Music" and proceeded to move just under 8GB of music folders/files to it overnight.

This morning I removed the card from my laptop and inserted it into my phone. I opened the "My Files" app and when I opened the "extSdCard" folder there was nothing there. I removed the card and reinserted it in my laptop and the "lost" and "music" files were both available. I removed the card once again and reinserted into my phone and after about 15 seconds or so the phone rebooted. Once the phone powered on it rebooted again. Once it powered on again it rebooted once more and this time it powered into safe mode. Once in safe mode, I checked for the card and low and behold I could see both folders and I was able to play mp3 files from the music folder.

The phone shows 51.06GB of 59.01GB free on the external card, whether in safe or regular mode. Every time I removed the card from the phone or laptop, I unmounted it first. I've read that Android sometimes doesn't play well with Windows folders, but I've never had a trouble with this on any other Android handset.

General :: Modify Fstab Files To Mount External SD

Feb 27, 2013

After moving from 4.1.1 to 4.2.2, the external sd is not mounted anymore. or at least I see it grey in system/storage. I can access all its content via file manager, but thats it.

Now, I have checked the 4.1.1 system, and there I have 2 fstab files, internal_sd and external_sd, the content (stripped of comments):

external_sd:
dev_mount sdcard /storage/sdcard0 auto /devices/platform/omap/omap_hsmmc.0/mmc_host/mmc1
dev_mount sdcard2 storage/sdcard1 fuse

internal_sd:
dev_mount sdcard storage/sdcard0 fuse
dev_mount sdcard2 /storage/sdcard1 auto /devices/platform/omap/omap_hsmmc.0/mmc_host/mmc1

on 4.2.2, the content of vold.fstab is:
dev_mount sdcard1 /storage/sdcard1 auto /devices/platform/omap/omap_hsmmc.0/mmc_host/mmc1

Questions:
1. what to add in vold.fstab so that both cards are mounted?
2. what to modify so that the default one is the external one (I somehow assume that is in the build.prop, but not sure)?

General :: Transferring Files From Tablet

Jun 10, 2013

I just got a Galaxy Note 10, which I am hoping will work well for art-making purposes.I need to be able to transfer files to and from my tablet. I need to be able to import some files I've started on my computer and then transfer my drawings back to said computer.

I've never used an android device before. I thought there would be a simple built-in option for this, but it seems that there's not. Fine, so I have to download an app, which is fine. I've downloaded several, but nothing is working the way I want.

I have a folder on my computer that is shared on the network. Every other computer in the house has no problems finding it, grabbing files from it, or putting new files on it. But I can't find any app that lets me browse the shared folder like any other (windows based) computer can do. I tried looking this up and I'm getting direction for setting up an ftp client. The folder is already shared using a common and well-known protocol. I don't have to put in a username and password to find it. I don't have to select the IP address for my computer. I don't have to select protocols or anything like that. It's a standard windows home network. Why can't I find anything that will just accept that and look for that?

Explore and transfer network files without having to have me set up all this server/ftp crap. I want an app that finds that stuff automatically. Preferably one that also works as a standard file explorer app.

General :: Can't Delete Files From External Memory Card Through File Explorer

Sep 9, 2013

I have tried a lot of custom Roms. I'm on Neat ROM Lite now. Not sure which ROM changed my file access permission settings to cause this problem but I'm not able to delete any files from my external memory card. I was able to delete when I was on stock rom. The other problem is for a few apps I get an error message which says can't install on usb/sd card. I have posted this in another thread some time back but got no response.

This is what my file permission looks like.

I am able to delete when my fone is connected to PC via USB. So I don't think it has anything to do with a faulty sd card.

I tried copying other files to the SD and it works like the charm, but when it comes to MKV files it crashes. Note I can copy large files into the SD just not MKV files This makes me mad for a good reason. I've tried and tried solutions, but seem to not come to a happy understanding.

P.S! I have ICS also I do not know why I can't mount my external HDD to the tab either.

General :: Nexus 7 Tablet - WAV Files As Notifications And Ringtones?

Oct 25, 2013

When I got our Nexus7 tablet over a year ago, I was happy to find that it would accept WAV files as notifications and ring tones since I had a number of custom WAV files that I wanted to use for different needs.

In addition I used SmartVoiceRecorder to generate a custom voice ringtone for my wife (who has difficulty hearing and finds it easier to hear alerts recorded with my voice) and it worked fine using the WAV files that it generates.

Over the last couple of days, her phone stopped ringing. Her settings showed that the ringtone was set to "none"

Using SmartVoiceRecorder to reset my recordings to "ringtone" didn't work either. Copying the WAV files to the ringtone directory and selecting them using ES File Explorer also didn't work.

None of the above actions triggered any warning or complaint, but the current ringtone was reset to "none" after each attempt without warning or notification.

I checked the SMS message tone and found that it had also reset to none.

Not sure if there is an android app to convert WAV to an android acceptable ringtone, but Mobile Media Converter - The Audio and Video converter you want. is a nice little PC converter that creates mobile compatible audio files... I tried AMR and OGG outputs, and both worked as Nexus ringtones.

General :: Recover Deleted Files In Android Tablet?

Oct 28, 2011

I need to recover deleted files from my Android Tablet internal storage folder ( /mnt/sdcard ). This is mounted like a fuse filesystem. I've run Hexamob Recovery PRO from Android Market in my smartphone and it recovered very good some deleted files from my vfat storage folders (both internal and external sd card).

But the smartphone version is not running correctly in my Motorola Xoom because it don't detect internal storage (fuse). I asked to developers about a tablet version and they said me they are working in a tablet version but fuse file system is very hard to manage. Any other app to recover my deleted files from a fuse file system?

General :: Automatic Clearing Cache And Changes To Files And System For Tablet Shared To Public

Mar 21, 2014

I'm looking for a method or an application for android tablet, which allows me to quickly reset the device deleting any data (from the Internet cache, and the cache to the photos of the various programs such as facebook, twitter etc ...) and that does not allow any modification of the operating system. I need this solution because I have a restaurant and I want to put a tablet on each table for guests to make him see the menu (full of photos and videos), surf the internet and play with the kids.

is there an app that allows this? or is there a quick way to do this, such as a multiaccount management ? I remember, for example, that for windows there are applications that completely erase any unauthorized modification, files and cache, at the time you restart the operating system.

Android :: Way To Delete App Associated Files From External Storage On Uninstall

Jan 1, 2010

It'd be convenient if an application I'm writing stored some files to external storage permanently (so they persist after the application has been exited[destroyed]), but on an uninstall I'd like to do the decent thing and have these files removed to free up the storage.

Is there any way I can have these files removed on an uninstall?

If there isn't (and I'm skeptical), then I'll have to create these files each time. I'm trying to save start-up time and also occupy required space by having them exist permanently.

Note: I need to use external storage, so both internal storage or a DB would be inappropriate.
