I flashed jelly bean onto my galaxy nexus over the past weekend.Playing around with it, I've noticed that voice actions just don't work.Every time I say 'Call Contact', it searches for the phrase instead of performing the action. I've tried other voice actions too like setting alarms, writing emails but nothing works. My phone just performs a web query each time.

It's been just 8 hours or less, the android phone never dropped from my hand and it never got any physical damage. The screen started to go crazy in the morning when I woke up, the screen wasn't working properly and it was crazy, later I hit the power button three times then the screen started to function. And at the lunch time it started again and now I can't use the screen. The notification bar (or something you pull to use wifi) isn't working. I can't pull it down to use Bluetooth or WiFi or Mobile Data (I don't have SIM yet). Well, it never happened like this before (even if it happened it caused me less damaged). The screen went crazy, even if I wasn't touching this thing the screen was functioning all by itself. It's Android 4.3 and it's latest update for my phone and the next OS is releasing next month.
Phone: Sony Xperia Z (C6602).
Has 3G but no 4G and I never used 3G network.
Why is my phone's screen not working properly? Do I need to use function reset to use it again?
The jellybean box itself turns on and the home screen loads up. I select the page where all the apps are...select xbmc app...sometimes it flicks back to main apps page other times the screen turns black/blank. I can't get further than this page....my box has worked perfectly for the past 3 months since purchasing. I can't get into the settings page as I can't get past the blank .

View 2 Replies View RelatedOK, I just updated my phone to JB (from ICS), and the one thing that I do not like about JB is that the voice dictation feature took one step back. In ICS, I had continuous voice dictation, which allowed me to take long pauses in between sentences. In JB, the voice dictation automatically stops if there's a pause longer than a couple of seconds. This is incredibly annoying.
Is there any way possible to get continuous voice dictation in JB?? I use this feature a lot, and it's such a nuisance always having to tap the microphone button after any type of pause.
I'm aware that by default, we cannot access the Google Voice Search used in Google Now by using a bluetooth headset and that it instead uses the old Voice Dialer. In my opinion, the Voice Dialer is horrible is recognizing names and commands.
It would be amazing if when we pressed the button on our bluetooth headsets, it would use the Voice Search/Google Now so we could dial, send a text, check weather, sports scores, and all the other great things Google Voice Search in Jelly Bean has brought us.
Are there any developers out there that can make that possible in their ROM? Is there any way that we can make this work at all?
my galaxy grand duos received firmware and software upgrade. After that, some applications no longer work properly, for example, the planner lost all the characteristics. It doesn't shows weeks. The contact application lost things like favorites.

(I can uncheck Google in the settings, but I want those suggestions as well, just not to clutter the top of the search) Let's say I want to find a Pizza place down the street from me.It's very possible it's already in my contacts, so when I type in "Johnny G's", I'd rather see any possible contacts first, and google searches after.But instead I get all google and youtube suggestions first and have to scroll through a long list to see if the contact is in my phone.This is the same for Songs and Artists as well.ALSO, anybody have a problem using the search button in Landscape?I type in something, then hit the back button to drop the keyboard, and it returns me back to the home screen.This works for dropping the keyboard in text messages because it's quicker than Holding the menu button.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've just come to notice a problem with my desire, which I believe to be fairly long standing.For quite a long time I've been thinking that scrolling down lists/webpages/in apps etc has been quite stuttery, the wierd thing being that if you flick the list/page/whatever and let go (ie let the momentum take it) it's a lot smoother. I noticed today that when I'm scrolling with my finger on the top half of the screen it's actually really smooth, but as soon as my finger reaches the halfway point on the screen it starts to stutter. The stuttering isn't random, it seems like there's a grid of sensitivity on the screen, so it only catches up every 5mm or so (it feels like there's about 15 points of sensitivity horizontally on the screen).To test it I first downloaded the multitouch test app (as it purely reads from the driver where the touches are being detected and displays it on the screen). It still happened. I then downloaded a free drawing app, which seems to accentuate the problem, as when my finger reaches the midpoint of the screen it stops drawing altogether!I imagine it's probably a hardware problem as it's been happening for ages (only just recognised though) and during that time I've installed a debranded rom and then updated to froyo.Has anyone else noticed anything similar? I'll try and get a video on youtube to show the problem at some point. Any advice of things to try or should i just call T-Mobile support?

Have downloaded a new Bootanimation.zip and accompanying audio file from XDA devs website.
Now...can't seem to get it to function properly. WHERE do I put these files? I put them in the /local/data folder and it used the stock VZW boot animation when I rebooted.
Do I need to RENAME the file? Or do I just have it placed in the wrong location?

I find the Google voice search widget (the bar with a mic at the end) pretty useful, however, I can't seem to have it on two different languages at the same time, cause I usually search things in English and Spanish. Is it possible? Or is it limited to just one language at a time?

I have an LG G2 and I am using a pair of LG Tones. Whenever I click the Hands-Free button it automatically launches the Android voice dialer. It is slow, unaccurate, and obnoxious. I can use my Tones along with other voice assistant apps but I cannot change the app that is automatically launched after clicking the Hands-Free button. After all, that's why I have the Tones. I wanted to know if there was a way to substitute the default Android dialer.
Other info:
Clearing the defaults is not an option. It came as the default.
Disabling the voice dialer makes the Hands-Free button do nothing. (Interstingly enough, when trying to use my play/pause button it also wouldn't work. The other functions like volume and forward and previous track may also not have worked but I don't know I didn't try. After re-enabling the voice dialer all functions resumed functioning.)
Conclusion: I love my phone and my tones but this Voice Dialer is horrendous. Even on my S4, the default is S Voice which is even better than this.
I remember sometime in 2009, when google navigation was restrict to US, some people used to Hack it to make it work outside the US..Voice Action is restrict in english. The app is there.. if I change my locale settings to English US, it works... But when I set it back to portuguese, it only works in search mode...I was then wondering if it was possible to hack it to make it work in other languages, since it can already recognize speech pretty well in portuguese...

I have my work address saved in Google Maps as "work," just like I have my home address saved under "home." The "navigate to home" voice action works perfectly: it always pulls up directions to my home. The "navigate to work" voice action NEVER works, it always pulls up Google search for the phrase "navigate to work."
I need the functionality because I require directions to work often.
PS I can search "work" in Google Maps and it does pull up my work address.
I would like to use Google voice actions to add a task to my Google tasks list. And no, using voice actions to text twitter to direct message Remember the Milk is not good enough. That's just silly. I want to hit the microphone button, say, "new task buy more bacon" and have it show up in my pure calendar widget.

I had read that someone released an unofficial Google Music API, however I haven't seen any apps take advantage of this. Also, not many apps seem to take advantage of Google Voice Actions to launch songs.

Either by ROM, App, or Rooting/Otherwise, is there a way to make the lock button have multiple functions on my Galaxy Nexus? My goal is to be able to use Voice Actions from a locked phone (like in the car, for example).I noticed some posts on editing hardware buttons, but that was neither for the Galaxy Nexus nor for a lock button.
Ideally, 2 quick clicks would pull up Voice Actions from a locked phone.I guess if I could permanently have Voice Actions in the notifications section, I could drag down from a locked phone and accomplish the same thing. I use slide to unlock, so dragging down on notifications bar is still available.
I have not rooted yet but would do so just for this functionality (I'm now a corporate tool so I try to hack as little as possible these days)...

View 4 Replies View RelatedI was having a problem getting VA to call anyone in my contacts. It would want to call some random business and offer to Google the person I actually wanted to call. After searching for a while I came upon the solution of clearing out the contacts data - Menu, Settings, Applications, Manage Applications (select "All"), Contacts Storage -- the select Clear Data. Then re-sync your contacts with your Google contacts. You may want to backup your contacts before you do this. I didn't lose any, but YMMV. Note that this also cleared up a sync issue I was having with my Google contacts. May the force be with you and live long and prosper.

Google's One-Button Voice Actions For Android 2.2. nevermind got it but still doesn't send text after talking. Just waits till i hut send.
My friend with an iphone has the Nuance speech recognition SW and it's great. Looking for similar for my X, but all I see that's close is Google's new Voice Actions. It only compatible with 2.2. Is there another option until my OS is upgraded OTA by VZW? I'm not comfortable rooting.

Several commands - 'send text to', 'send mail to', 'note to self' and 'go to' - are missing. They are not parsed, and they do not appear in the Help list when voice search is launched.
Is this because I don't use the standard HTC message, mail and browser apps, by any chance? (But they are still on the phone, of course.)
I noticed that if I just speak a web search, it launches the HTC browser, whereas Dolphin is my dafault browser.
