General :: P990 - Phone Not Accepting ROM?

Oct 1, 2013

I've been trying to get a Cyanogenmod on my LG Optimus 2x/Speed/P990. Most of the (german) how-to's didn't work, until I found a toolkit named "AIO Toolkit for P990/SU 660" by SpyrosK, which did finally install a CWM-based recovery (v6.0.2.5).

Following the steps of the how-to's I found I tried installing various Roms, all of the available Cyanogenmod Roms from their homepage, and another I found somewhere else.

All ended with the same, the phone doesn't boot into the rom, but into the Stock 4.0.4 ICS

I'm installing in the following order:

-wipe data/factory reset

-wipe cache partition

-advances > wipe dalvik cache

-install zip from sdcard

-choose zip from external sdcard

-e.g. cm-7.2.0-p990.zip

-yes

-reboot system now

It always sends me back into stock 4.0.4

Did I mess up something in the CWM-order?

General :: Stable VOIP Setup For Calls Over 3G?

Sep 29, 2011

I have a Google Voice number local to my area code that forward to my pbxes.org account, which in turn takes the call and sends it to my phone via the SipDroid app. I can make incoming/outgoing calls all day long for free, but have a problem with call quality.

I have linked two voicemail files. I placed a call from SipDroid out to the same number in both cases, but one was done over WiFi and the other over 3G (2-3 bars, average signal). The WiFi one is acceptable, but the 3G one is not. Listen for yourself (For the message, I read one of the opening paragraphs from the US Declaration of Independence, same on both so you can compare accurately.)

Setup: Google Voice number -> pbxes.org -> SipDroid app
Wifi VOIP Voicemail: [URL] ....
3G VOIP Voicemail: [URL] .....

I am wanting to use my Google Voice number for work, as my off-hours support phone, so I do not accrue charges on my personal cell plan (not covered by employer, and they do not provide work mobile phones). So, since I am usually on the go, I will not be connected to WiFi, thus I need a reliable VOIP option that will get acceptable call quality over 3G. There are multiple options out there, and I do not have a problem with a monthly fee, but they all come with caveats. For example, if I got an "Online Number" from Skype, and just forwarded my Google Voice number to that, it would work through the Skype app, no SIP app needed; however, the Skype voicemail cannot be disabled, so I can no longer use the Google Voice app to easily see my support calls/messages from my home screen. I have use the Skype app (or website) to listen to voicemails. Skype would solve my quality problem (based on reviews of other users that use it over 3G), but introduce the new voicemail issue. The setup I have now (GV->pbxes->SipDroid) allows me to use the GV voicemail, but quality is lacking...catch 22. Is there a better more reliable solution out there for VOIP on Android?

There's also the Google Callback app, that I have been trying to avoid at all costs, since it is kind of hotkey, and I tried the GrooVe IP app, but it has a lot of echo for the person I am calling, and no setting change could fix it.

I will be updating my phone from the DroidX (3G only) to the Bionic (4G). If you think that will make a difference, and make all my concerns moot, then just say so, and that's what I'll do.

General :: HTC One XL Touchscreen Unresponsive After Installed Stable CM 10.0.0-evita

Jun 5, 2013

I encountered one issue when hacking my HTC One XL, the touchscreen was unresponsible after installed CyanogenMod(cm-10.0.0-evita stable version)

I followed the installation guide mentioned in Cyanogen wiki..Unlocked with official HTC Dev Unlock and flashed eyeballer's recovery attached in above installation guide, whole procedure is smooth without any errors.Already wipe the cache and system, also factory reset before installation.

But after installed the stable CyanogenMod cm-10.0.0-evita.zip, touchscreen was unresponsive fully, buttons (power and volume) can work normally. When I rebooted to recovery mode on device, touchscreen function was back and worked well. The basic info of my device as below:

Asia Pacific device
Jelly Bean 4.1.1, HBoot 2.14
HTC Sense 4+
Software Version: 3.17.708.5
HTC SDK API: 4.63
Kernel: 3.4.10-g240d4d5
Baseband: 0.23a.32.09.29_10.128.32.34aL
Internal Version: 3.17.708.5 CL134054 release-keys

Following quoted administrator's words in CyanogenMod Forum:

"It is likely due to a firmware update that was put out by HTC in a later version of their software. The same problem happened with the regular (non-LTE) HOX. Luckily, with the regular HOX, the developers were able to find a working kernel version that brought back the touchscreen. Since work has halted on the HOXL due to a DCMA takedown notice on github, I don't know if the maintainers have worked with newer kernels. However, it may be worth checking on xda and see if there are any updated kernels or CM builds that address this issue."

"Due to the DCMA takedown notice to github, unless it gets resolved, it is likely this won't ever see another official release (whether nightly or stable). You would likely need to resort to the xda forum for people compiling their own builds."

Android :: Stable Contact Identity

Nov 2, 2009

In the course of moving to the 2.0 cotnact APIs,"As long as the contact's row ID remains the same, this URI is equivalent to CONTENT_URI. If the contact's row ID changes as a result of a sync or aggregation, this URI will look up the contact using indirect information " Currently, we store contact IDs to identify particular contacts. If I read this right, contact IDs will no longer be stable in the world of 2.0, and we will need to store a lookup URI (or at least a LOOKUP_KEY and a row ID) in order to identify a contact in a stable way.
That would be a substantial change in our code. So, before I rush off to do it, I'd love to find out if a contact row ID change is going to be a routine thing (say, on every sync), or if it will be a very rare thing (say, when two contacts are manually combined into one, or some even rarer exception).

Sprint HTC Hero :: What Is Most Stable Overclockable Rom?

Jun 13, 2010

What is the most stable overclockable rom that you know of? I initially thought overclocking didn't do anything, but after using it more and more I noticed that it does make the phone a lot smoother. I tried FRESH Toast 2.1. but it is just too buggy (I used OC widget). Does anyone know of a stable 2.1 overclockable rom that I can use for everyday without a lot of problems? Right now I am using Fresh 2.1.2 and I would have to say it is more stable than the stock 2.1 from sprint I installed a few weeks ago, but I am wanting a little more juice out of it with a similar amount of stability (fresh has given me NO problems).
