View 2 RepliesI want to start an activity as a dialog, which can be simply done by: <activity android:theme="@android:style/Theme.Dialog">
But I want to do control the dialog, so I've to do it programmatically. Basically I want to modify this property of dialog: mCanceledOnTouchOutside = true
This will make the dialog cancel itself when touched outside of it's bounds. (Basically I want to replicate the popup behavior). The issue is I can't simply create a dialog and set it's layout since I need a call to activity (to initialized datasets)
I'm trying to create a basic AlertDialog using an activity with a theme of Theme.Dialog.What I want is for there to be a horizontal bar between the title and the message. However, the bar is not being resized correctly. Rather than being the width of the activity, the bar is the width of the message text. This means that if the activity is being expanded by the message, then the bar will fill the whole activity, so it looks correct. However, if the message width is less than the activity width, the bar only displays above the part of the activity with the text. I've tried every single combination of "fill_parent" and "wrap_content" that I can think of, and none of those work.I've also tried using RelativeLayout and placing the bar above the message text, but that also doesn't work. If I use the RelativeLayout approach and set the bar to fill_parent, it causes the activity to expand to fill the whole screen width, which is also undesirable. Ideally, I want the text placed, the activity width computed, and the bar resized to that width (without affecting it). Is there some way to flag a view to fill the parent view but not to affect its size?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI use themes in my apps, which generally just extend android:Theme and then set a bunch of styles. I use dialogs made from layouts, but since I set the theme for the application, they have inherited all of the regular styles and no longer carry a border, etc. My question is: How do I say, "I want everything to use this theme which extends Theme, except dialogs, which should use this other theme that extends Theme.Dialog"? It seems like that's how things work by default but when you set the theme to your own, you lose the dialog theme!
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've extended Theme.Dialog to use a different color as per the sample in the ApiDemos project but for some reason it does not use the theme properly in my project. I created a new project and it works perfectly fine there. The main problem here is that it does not show as floating in my project. Instead, it sets the rest of the screen black except for what would be the dialog window, where it uses the correct colors, etc. Any ideas? I am beating my head against the wall here.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've been using my textfree app without any problems for a while now, and then suddenly yesterday it crashed and ever since, it hasn't started up correctly. When I hit the icon on my launcher, it flashes a white screen and then goes back to the launcher.
I have already tried clearing the app data/cache, uninstalling and then reinstalling from the market, and clearing phone cache/dalvik from recovery. It still has the same problem, any fix possible that doesn't involve formatting /data?
Where and how should I start?
What programming skills do I need?
What software do I need?
Any pointers to success and good ROM's?
I use the app called "System" and it lists about a dozen apps that are stored in my cache or that are using memory when I have not innitiaited the service or app...
I'm most familiar with computers so I'll relate it to that; is there some type of command line that I can use to stop some of these apps from auto start and being stored. For instance on windows you can 'msconfig' what programs are allowed to start on boot up.
Here is a list of apps that I want to stop: AccuWeather.com, Android Booster, Google Voice, HeyTell, Amazon's Appstore, Market, Music, etc.
Most are cached/ inactive but none the less in my task manager when freeing up memory when I notice things to be lagging I'd imagine these to be guilty. Android Booster always lists these as killed apps as well when optimizing...
Im familiar somewhat with how android works being that it often fills a large portion of your memory with what it wants to and frees space as it is needed but these apps for me are rarely used...
Im big on battery life being Im in and out of Sales accounts and rely on my phone heavily so I dont want these things running in the background sucking up resources. Not to mention I like a snappy phone...
Also, I know their are app freezers and applications you can program to kill apps at a set interval but again I would like the least amount of garbage running as I can .....

I'm using a device with 512mb RAM. Now facebook uses up to 80mb, and notifications, and messages aren't even shown properly, actually only if you go into the app.
Now my question is - is there any way exept android manifest changes to prevent any facebook services? It lowers the performance a lot, and is really on of the baddest apps ever seen.
I am using 2.3.4 and facing critical memory outage (in my galaxy S plus), reason being most of those applications I install keep on running in the background, when i kill them using some (Task Killer) they automatically kicks off and restart themselves again.
Is there anything like services (the way we have in windows) which i need to stop to restrict them to run automatically and at startups. I am new to Android.
I have akarbonn a1+ duple, which i have rooted and installed chainfire 3d in it but when i clicked install c2ddriver or whatever it is in chainfire my phone rebooted and now it is not running just boot screen comes and do not runs.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an Acer A100 tablet that I've upgraded to ICS (the upgrade went very smoothly, by the way). But under both ICS and the original Honeycomb, the Android OS has an annoying habit of starting a bunch of apps automatically. Facebook, Google Maps, media players and a whole host of apps that I do NOT want to start all by themselves. I found an "Advanced Task Manager" that will check every 5 minutes and kill unwanted apps automatically. But every time I check it there are still half a dozen apps running in the background that I don't want.
If it were just one or two apps, I would simply uninstall them. But it seems like half the factory apps are intent on restarting themselves no matter how many times they're turned off. My Acer has a very small battery, and I suspect I'd get much better battery life if it would only run the apps that I start manually.
Other than email and the system update manager, I really don't want any apps running in the background. And when I turn an app off, I want it to stay off until I restart it. Is there a way to edit the list of programs that start automatically? Do they all have to be disabled individually? I've checked a few of the apps, and don't see any way to disable the "automatic log-in", "check for new data" or whatever each program might call it's annoying insistence on starting whenever it wants to.
My phone samsung vibrant is not starting, i was using google maps and it hanged and now it goes in idle mode after S sign, nothing on screen and all touch buttons have light on them.
I was using voodoo kernel and android 2.1. I know how to format it back, but i seriously need data backup. When i connect the phone via USB cable to pc, it hows 2 removable drives (phone and memory card) bu t i am not able to access them. Is there any way to get the data?
Is there any way to stop some applications from starting on system startup? I means not killing them. just don't let them to start.

View 1 Replies View RelatedSome backround on this post. I own 2 android devices, a Samsung Galaxy i9003 and since yesterday, a Nexus 7.
I have ditched my Galaxy as a phone and gone to Blackberry due to battery issues, and apps on my Samsung draining the battery from full to empty in the space of a few hours, so I am now very careful about what I install. Since removing almost all the apps (and the SIM card) from the galaxy, I now have a battery live measured in days (including watching video) rather than hours just sitting doing nothing...
I understand the use of apps auto-starting themselves to provide notifications, such as Facebook, Twitter & Accuweather, but even though I do use these apps for what they are, I do not need them running all the time to provide a notification: The added "work" in starting the app to check updates is worth the extra battery life I get, as if I leave things alone to be automatically managed, my battery life is divided by 10... and having to flip the phone in and out of flight mode is a pain... (especially when you forget to activate it in the afternoon after charging and at 3 AM in the morning you have no battery left to call a taxi...)
So, what I would like to understand is this: Where does android store the information on autostarting applications? Even if I use a task killer, some apps will restart later on. Android must have some sort of task scheduler to restart registered apps after a certain amount of time has passed or on certain events.
how Android manages this list - and more importantly, how to change it, and also if there is any way to override the registered permissions of an app once it has been installed?
I wanted to install custom firmware first, but my recovery software was old (when I choosed the ZIP from the SD card, it said: "Installation aborted."). I installed CWM 6.0.2.8 and when I strated it and choosed the ZIP, it was same. I rebooted my phone in the menu and it started again in recovery mode. I tried reboot again, but it was same.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI want to change my theme. However, I want to change ALL themes, so this includes everything about the phone. What I mean is:
- HomeScreen
- Settings
- Dialog Boxes / Buttons
- Messaging
- Contacts / Phone
- etc.
I have GoLauncher EX, GoSMS, GoContacts downloaded on my phone. But I've yet to find something that I can use as replacement for the Settings screen as well as how to change the Dialog boxes button colors, toggle switch colors, etc.
I'm running Xperia P on ICS.
Is there any possibility to install and use themes from CM9/10 to an LG optimus L7 (P700)? (android 4.0.3 with stock rom (v10i) and root).
View 3 Replies View RelatedCurrently theming and I wanted to change the colors of certain title bars, but cannot find the XML files associated with the color codes. I have looked in the droid developer website and XDA and haven't found the needed info. I also attached images so persons who may know can answer; some stuff I just wanted confirmed. I would like to change some settings title bar colors and some texts. The arrows point out what I need to change, and the fonts of what I want to change are underlined. This is for the droid charge, just so people know.
I have seen people put images in the title bar in settings so how to do this or has a link to anything about what i mentioned.
