General :: Nexus 4 CPU Logical And Physical Cores

Nov 6, 2013

I know that the nexus 4 has a quad core CPU by qualcomm, the snapdragon s4 pro. I searched everywhere on the web to find out what kind of CPU specs it has in terms of physical and logical cores. I'm guessing it has 2 physical cores (cpu0, cpu1) and 2 logical cores (cpu2, cpu3) but I'm not sure. I've successfully shutdown CPU 2 and 3 via terminal emulator. But the command won't work on core 0 and 1.

So are cpu0 and 1 physical or logical cores if so, How do I turn one of them offline.

Android :: Logical Sequence In Video Capturing

Can anyone describe the logical sequence of implementing video recording facility? I've followed the steps as outlined from the diagram here: http://developer.android.com/reference/android/media/Media Recorder.html; and ended up with an out-of-memory exception.

General :: Physical Keyboard Toggle ON / OFF

Jul 26, 2013

In Jelly Bean when using a bluetooth or usb keyboard (certain mice and scanners also) force the on screen keyboard off.

Then anyone can choose to turn off the physical keyboard (or whatever device) by going into the input method option (also known as Input and Language) in settings and selecting the OFF option and upon doing so the keyboard (or whatever device) still works and now the on screen keyboard works also. (very simple)

The option to turn ON or OFF the physical keyboard is not present in the input method selector screen unless a physical device is attached via usb or bluetooth.

How can one do this from a terminal window or using a shell command.

I would like to automate this silly feature via Tasker or Locale but can not do so until I know the console command.

I know how to switch IME devices from the command shell or with the Secure Settings plugin but when a physical device is connected it does not show using the shell command IME LIST. Only virtual keyboards are listed, not physical devices.

General :: DROID 4 - Physical Keyboard Quirk With ICS

Aug 21, 2012

I have ICS on the DROID 4. Everything I use is stock, not rooted, all that jazz.

In the physical keyboard settings you can turn on these three options: Auto-replace, auto-capitalization, and insert a period after double-spacing with the space bar key.

If all three are turned on, they all work, as you would expect. However, if ONLY the double-space/period one is turned on -- which is what I desire -- then it does NOT work.

What is causing this glitch and how can I fix it?

General :: Mapping Touchscreen To Physical Keys?

Feb 9, 2012

Any way to take games with virtual controllers (D-Pad and buttons) and map them to physical keys?" Either on a built-in keyboard like the Droid 4, or the Xperia Play's keys, or even mapping them to a third party device such as a bluetooth keyboard or Wiimote/PS3 controller.

So what I was wondering, is if there already is an app out there that can take a point on the touchscreen, and assign it to a keypress on a physical device?

General :: Modifications To Emulate Specific Physical Device

Jan 24, 2014

I'm working on a project that includes a test system for OEM devices. The supporting infrastructure is complete, however I'm having difficulties getting ROMs to run on the emulator. Of course the AVDs generated by the SDK work fine, but my next step is to run a binary intended for an OEM device. I understand that the emulator would require different drivers than a physical device, so I can't simply drop the same binary onto it and expect it to run.

Tweaking the AVDs generated by the SDK is about the limit of my knowledge. I've looked into pulling the system.img and other partitions from the ROM with ones from the emulator, but that doesn't work since the emulated hardware doesn't match what the drivers expect. I assume some modifications to qemu and some reverse engineering of the OEM ROM might be required to obtain my goal.

Assuming I have access to the binaries (but not the source) used by an OEM to construct their ROMs, what would be involved to obtain an emulator that matches the physical device, so I can run the compiled ROM on the emulator?

General :: Jelly Bean On Phones With Physical Buttons

Jul 11, 2012

On devices with onscreen keys, the key layout goes Back, Home (long press for Google now), MultitaskOn devices with physical keys, as we well know, whe have back, home, and menu (sometimes with search, long pressed to voice search) in a pretty unpredictable order. But how would you activate Google now on devices with these keys? Long pressing home is multitask.... so is multitask moved out a different key (long press menu?) Or does Google now move?

The most logical choice would be assigning it to long press search (replacing voice search) but a lot of phones *coughgalaxysphonescough* don't HAVE the search button...

Physical Device Not Detected

Feb 28, 2014

I just got 'my first app' working on Eclipse, but I can't use my physical device as a target. I have Android 2.3 Gingerbread, Samsung Galaxy Ace(aka Cooper), Win 7. Latest versions of Eclipse and ADT. On adb devices, it doesn't show up, only the emulator if that's on.

USB Debugging is turned on and I downloaded three different drivers: the one Windows automatically downloads, one using USBDriverTool and the Universal ADB Driver.

If it's relevant, I also had trouble installing the ADT plugin with Eclipse, I posted about it here in a separate thread.

HTC EVO 4G :: Hero's Physical Specs Going To Make EVO?

EVO doubles Hero's processor, internal memory and RAM. I'm wondering how exactly that will translate into daily usage. Mayhaps I should post on the Nexus board since that runs a snapdragon but I'm sure there are people here who have handled both.I'm going to use a few apps I use as an example: Astro File Manager: running the app manager can take 20-30 seconds to fully 'load the packages' to backup/install/uninstall/etc.More Icons Widget: populating the apps list takes 20-30 seconds. aTrackDog: populating the apps list can take 45-60 seconds.

HTC EVO 4G :: Physical Damage Or Design Flaw

Sep 10, 2010

So you all know how HTC oddly designed this phone to have it rest on the camera lens. Well my lens is cracked. Not sure when or how it happened. I wont even say it cracking wasn't my fault. Likely was. However I do have insurance and the repair part of it too. I pay 7 dollars a month.

Well took my phone into Sprint and they told me they couldn't repair the lens because it's considered physical damage and if they repaired it it would void the warranty agreement they have with HTC.

So my question is why do I pay an extra 3 dollars a month for repairs when they can't even repair my phone?

They call it physical damage I call it design flaw. They said I would have to file a claim with Asurion and pay 100 deductible to get a replacement phone. Well I dont want a replacement phone. Mine works flawlessly. I dont want to get rid of it. Let alone why would someone in their right mind pay 100 dollars for just a cracked piece of plastic or glass the size of a dime?

Samsung I7500 :: Physical Buttons Not Working

I've had my phone for a while now but a few days ago some of the physical buttons stopped working. I'm not sure why but the home, call pick up, and camera buttons now no longer function. I'd have assumed this was a physical fault immediately, however when the screen is darkened (power save?) if I press any of the "failed" buttons then it will light up again! I'd be interested in knowing whether there are any diagnostic tools available for this also. Failing anything else I'll be phoning O2 to get phone replaced! I've updated to II4 via the NPS update and they are still broken.
