View 1 RepliesMy girlfriend has a Droid...but hates how incredibly slow it is and complains of the battery. We all know that a ticked off girlfriend is bad news, and this phone seems to perpetuate it. So what are some steps to speed this guy up a little and make it run longer? I'm not above rooting and flashing ROMs

View 10 Replies View Relatedhow can i get my battery to last longer? It stinks that I paid $300 for a phone with a battery that won't last very long if running applications.I hear all of these commercials about droid being able to walk, talk and chew gum at the same time but they fail to tell you that less than 2 hours later the phone dies.Back to the question,is there a way to make it last longer? I tried screen brightness but then i can't read the phone outside.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWell, like others have mentioned in this forum, my Droid has started to get noticeably better battery life. I'm definitely lasting the entire day now, and I think I could go longer if I didn't work in a building with spotty reception at best (constantly switching back and forth from 1X to 3G with 1 bar). Conceivably, I'm not installing as many applications on the phone as I did in the first 1-2 weeks of ownership (I'm on week 2.5) so I'm not hitting the battery as much. But, what I'm really wondering about is if you guys think that a background backup process is running during the first few days (and after new app installations) that eats up battery power. Once the Droid reaches a 'steady' state, the backup process isn't running anymore and the Droid can last longer on a single charge. Does this sound reasonable or am I reaching...or just plain wrong. In which case, why is the battery lasting longer into the day. From my recollection, LiIon batteries don't have a memory affect so cycling them in is unnecessary.

View 4 Replies View RelatedSo, like many of you, my phone would occasionally get hot, and the battery would just zoom down to nothing. Usually this was just intermittent, and a restart would cure it.On June 10, it was happening, and persisted despite restarts, battery pulls, etc. I finally found that the problem was google trying to sync contacts. It was having some problem and cycling forever. When I unchecked the google contacts sync in the accounts preference panel, problem stopped. My battery life has never been better. Routinely getting 18-20 hrs or more.BUT I want to sync my google contacts! Every time I trial re-checking that box, it cycles and cycles, every few seconds giving a little error at the bottome of the screen (in prefs) "Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly".I have 700-something contacts (Only 250 real "My Contacts" but another 500 or so auto-created contacts from gmail use.Presumably one of those entries has some corruption, but I can't figure out which, and I don't want to potentially lose all the contacts.I have seen that for some people this was fixed by factory reset and resync, but then the problem came back a few weeks later.
seidioonline.com 2600mAh...almost double stock value.FWIW, I've had one in my Motorola Q for the past year, 2100mAh, and there is a direct correlation on mAh value and usage time compared to stock. So if mAh is 2x higher than stock, it will last 2x as long, under same conditions. I did a mock-up of what it would be like with the "extended battery door", which is pretty close to what is pictures, and it felt easier to type using the hard keyboard.
View 49 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to make the Toast last for longer time? I have tried this code
Toast t = new Toast(this); View v = View.inflate(this, R.toast_layout, null); t.setView(v); t.setDuration(Toast.LENGTH_LONG); t.show(); t.show(); t.show();
By calling show() method more than once, I hoped this would give a similar effect to lasting for longer time with some flickering, but I didn't see any difference. Is there some limit to the number of times that show() method can be called on the same Toast? e.g. just once per toast instance and further calling has no effect?
I got my HTC Hero today on Orange. I previously had an iPhone 3G but I do prefer my Hero!
I have a question though. Is there an app or a way to make the camera focus for longer? Or perhaps when it has focused enough, take the picture without it messing up?
The camera is good for me, I'm just wondering if there's a way to put the focus to better use!
For some reason, one activity (launched in a new process) often takes longer than 10 seconds to start, which exceeds the LAUCH_TIMEOUT defined in ActivityManagerService. How do I make the VM tolerate longer launch time without giving up wake lock?
View 3 Replies View RelatedFirst off, I didn't "find" this method on my own someone else did, I found it burred in other posts but it does seem to work for me. There are two ways to do this. One required you to dial a code into your dialer which I'll skip because the easy way is to just go to the Apps Market and get "Network" which is free. Then once you have it installed fire it up and scroll to the very bottom where you will see:
Set preferred network type. This is the VERY top option. If this is your first time running "Network" it's probably set to "GSM auto (PRL)".The problem here I've read is that Sprint does not have GSM networks so the phone keeps "searching" for GSM signals and it never truly sleeps. It might apprear to be sleeping but it's not, it looking for GSM signals. That said, change the setting to "CDMA auto (PRL)" which will set the phone to CDMA only and it will STOP looking for GSM networks and to go sleep like it's suppose to. That's if you have nothing else installed keeping it from sleeping. The only catch is, the setting does not appear to stick. If you reboot the phone, you have to restart "Network" and redo the setting. One thing to note is when you redo the setting, it will SAY it's still set to CDMA auto (PRL) but in fact it is not so just re-select the setting and close out of Network.I took my phone off the charger at 10am this morning and I've been using it on and off all day to send texts, Youtubed a couple video's made a 30+ minute call and a few other odds and ends. Normally I would have had to charge my phone again at least once threw out the day but I've NOT put it back on the charge since 10am and I was still at 83% power when I left work at 5pm.
yet another battery thread with results that back up those that have posted their tricks.i unplugged my phone today at 7am cst before heading out the door to college algebra (i hate summer school!) it is now 5:10p cst and i have 57% battery left. i have been using the phone for several calls (had a phone job interview that lasted aprox 15min and talked to progressive for aprox 10min after checking voicemail) and have also been playing on the market and browsing the web.i figured i would through a public thank you out there for those that have helped me get the most out of my EVO and battery take what you want from this thread.i am not telling you to use what i use, only simply showing others what has worked for me.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI decided to do a little test with my Evo. Yesterday my battery drained out in 3 hrs at work with the Wifi off. Today I turned on my wifi at work and I got 7 hrs before recharging the battery. Weird I thought if Wifi is on it would drain the battery faster.
View 17 Replies View RelatedI woke up this morning with about 45% battery after 2.5 days on standby and i installed the updated while charging the phone. after the update successfully installed it started charging again at 49% and its taking a lot longer to charge. im guessing this maybe a good thing..before this i got 3-4 days without charging (many emails on phone, texts, a few calls) and i had gps off and htc sense for facebook off, now im going to see how long it lasts with those two things on, since this update addressed the issue with facebook for htc sense.
View 8 Replies View RelatedSince i got 2.2 it is taking much longer to CHARGE my battery. Before the update, it seemed to gain about 1% every minute, so about 1.5hrs to go from 15% or so to full. I thought it seemed longer lately, so at about 11:20 i plugged it in with 17%. At 1am, it was at 66%. Usually it would be close to or at 100%. What gives?
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy battery level was 36% this morning (8AM), so I plugged it into my computer and pulled it out when it was 100%. It still has 93% now (7.13PM)Has anybody encountered this as well?
View 12 Replies View RelatedI'd love some input from anyone before I take my Incredible in for service, please.Three days ago I realized that the charging light was remaining yellow long beyond the phone's usual charge time. Even after leaving it plugged in overnight, the next morning I was still at less than half charge, going only by the Settings>About Phone>Battery>Battery Level graphical display. Last night same thing, whether the phone was on or off, still a yellow charge light. Today for the first time since I got the phone, the battery indicator itself turned yellow towards the end of the day.Preemptive facts:Prior to starting a new thread, I did a thorough search and found nothing related to this specific battery issue.I have the OEM, red, HTC battery, and have never charged it outside of the phone, or with any charging cable other than the one supplied with the phone. When I first received the phone, I charged it fully, unplugged, and bumped charged before turning it on. For about a week afterward I would charge to green while on, unplug, turn off, and "bump charge". I have never had trouble getting through the day on a single charge, and no, I don't think I was training a lithium ion battery, I believed I may have been training the software of the phone itself.I have tried charging the phone fully both on and off, and have not seen green for over two days. This includes continuous charging for over 10 hours.I have had the phone for roughly seven weeks. The phone does charge- just now I have gone from @25% (as measured on the aforementioned graphical display) to @40%, but at that point it seems to no longer charge, although the "Battery State" says "Charging AC" and the little battery icon shows the charging animation.Have I got a dead battery, or am I missing something? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you.
View 2 Replies View RelatedFirst, I've got to give credit to the other post for figuring out the main reason for the short battery life I was getting. If you're already getting good battery life - ignore this post.It only took me two months to figure it out (I had this phone since the pre-release Friday from Best Buy), but the main culprit was the HTC clock with weather widget (or the TWC app). By process of elimination I tried literally everything but ultimately figured out that it was either the default HTC clock widget w/ weather or the "The Weather Channel" widget, or both. I got rid of both and my battery life has improved dramatically.I used to unhook my phone charger at 6:30 a.m. and my battery would be less than 15% by 5 p.m. with moderate use (few texts, few calls of 5 minutes each, and three emails pulling every 15 minutes). I tried lengthening the time interval to an hour for email pulling, changed the "default" mail account to my yahoo account from my activesync exchange account, unchecked "always on mobile", "background data" sync for google, no gps, no wifi, etc. but still couldn't last a 15 hour day without the battery dying. I did the SMS fix, got the MR update and still got crappy battery life despite never exceeding 18% awake time. Finally, last night I got rid of the HTC default widget clock w/ weather as well as the weather channel widget and today I went through 15 hours with heavy usage (more calls, longer calls, more text messages, and more emails than normal) and still at 30%.While this isn't earth shattering, it is a significant improvement than before. Hope this helps somebody.
View 17 Replies View RelatedI returned the Moto Droid on day 29 because it was bulky, I worried about the slider mechanism (and barely ever used the physical keyboard), and because I was very envious of the Sense UI on the Eris. The biggest thing was that when I had to turn the phone off or the couple of times I had to do a battery pull, it took 5-10 minutes before the phone would let me make a call. I have been pretty happy with the Eris as I love the physical buttons and the trackball and Sense UI and the form factor. But looking over the Droid threads on various forums, I do miss the beautiful screen and the quickness of the browser and changing between screens. I was a bit pissed that the software updates were after the exchange period for people who bought the phones when they came out. It really doesnt matter I suppose as I am not able to exchange this phone out for anything else. I understand why Verizon doesnt let you exchange repeatedly but its so hard to know how well a phone will do for you until you use it for a while. Full price is always an option if a higher-end HTC comes out but my husband wouldnt be too thrilled with that I think.

View 3 Replies View RelatedIndeed HTC is working on a fix for these issues, but here is what You can do to fix the application in the mean time. I was getting 2 hours "Heavy" (texting, data, wifi, high brightness) use before.I read somewhere that there it is a battery issue caused by the defaul HTC (or android, idk) application. The work around is for sms to something other than the included app as the default action for text messaging. This is accomplished installing another handcent sms or various other apps that you may find by going to the market and searching SMS.After installation go to the contacts list and send a text to a contact.A screen should pop up and ask which messaging app you would like to use. If i does not ask you, then you should go to Settings> Applications> Manage Applications> It will take a minute while your phone computes the space taken up by each app.Click Messages> and Tick Clear defaults if it is available. Viola! substantial battery boost and faster charges.you can verify that your phone is now using less power by rebooting then shut of your screen by pressing the end key wait for 1-5 mins mins without touching it now quickly settings> about phone> status all the way at the bottom your phones "Awake Time" (not up time) should be below %40 (mine is between 10-40%) day to day if this is not the case your phone has other issues and I will try my best to help you out
I have also heard that by letting you device go to sleep immidiately after turning it on it enters a weird device state that causes %100 cpu usage. though i cannot confirm this i always flip to the next screen and back a few times and check my twitter and what not to make sure.
This may sound strange but a few days ago I decided to have my WIFI 'Always On', and since then my battery seems to last alot longer.I have tried switching it off for a day to see if it was just coincidence, but with WIFI turned off, my battery died alot quicker. I thought it could be that when connecting through 3G it has to connect through the mass which could be miles away, but through WIFI it only has to connect to my router which is within 5 metres at all times. Maybe I am wrong but nonetheless its great being able to have my WIFI switched on at all times without loosing battery power quicker Is this the case with anyone else?Maybe some people could try this for a day to see if it improves your battery, and if it does so for you as it does for me, then there is another option to improve your battery life
