General :: Launcher / Desktop Closer Spacing Icons?
May 7, 2013
Jelly Bean takes too much room in spacing. I'd like the top 2 widgets to be closer, allowing more folders icons on desktop. Is this possible without reverting to a new Launcher?

I've tried Go Launcher EX, but I hated the small dock icons. I'm using Samsung Galaxy Nexus, is there a Launcher that:
1. Don't alter the ICS dock icon size, or that have an option to resize the dock icons?
2. That support swipe gesture in the dock? (Swipe upwards to open shortcut)
3. Where it is easy to swap icons?
Which Launcher can do this?

There are many launchers with the featuring allowing resizing of widgets.
But I have yet to find a launcher that allows scaling of icons. I can't resize my application icons to 2x2 size, then change it to a custom image since the default icon would be blurry by the resizing.
Any launcher that does that?

I'm testing out Lightning Launcher on my SGS4 and so far, I really like what I see -- especially the ability to "pin" icons in a certain location.
But I've noticed that some icons (not all) have a line above them for some reason. At first, I wanted to get rid of all the lines. But then I realized that I'd like to show them on some icons -- but I want to control which ones.
I want to pin two rows of icons to create sort of a 2-row dock. And I'd like to have a line above the top row.
how to control this line?

i've installed Nova launcher on my tablets and phone and love it but there's one issue I can't seem to find anything about.
I set my launch screen to have say 7wide*5high icons then this will look good in landscape but when rotating to portrait the amount of icons is rotated also so it's at 7 wide and 5 high even though the aspect ratio has flipped. I don't get why launchers don't just rotate the icons on the spot so that it looks good in one rotation and not the other.

I'm using the latest version of GO Launcher Theme Factory, and I've made a theme with around 30 icons, but I can't seem to add custom icons for other apps that aren't in GO's list. For example, I want to add a Nexflix icon for my theme, but I can't because when I double click on the add custom icon button, GO wants me to open an .apk file, not an image file. How to add a new icon to the list where it's actually an image file, or .apk file that I could download to my comp that has a bunch of custom icons listed (I'll make my own actual icons).

I am running Apex Launcher Pro and have started to notice a problem. When I uninstall apps that I have in folders in Apex Launcher Pro, the icons for those apps are not being removed when i uninstall the apps. I uninstalled roughly 30-40 apps not too long ago and they are all still present in my app folders on my desktop. Is there a way to have Apex remove these icons when uninstalling apps? Currently I have to go and test icons to see if the apps are installed or uninstalled in order to test them, which can be quite annoying if you have a large number of apps.
I am running the latest Apex on a Verizon GS3 running Synergy ROM.

I have an application built for 1.5 and I am adding higher resolution drawables to support hdpi devices in 1.6 and above. My original application icon is 48x48. I created a second launcher icon that is 72x72 and placed it in a res/drawable-hdpi/ directory. When I install the application on my Nexus One the icon looks good when I view it in the application menu. But when I place it on the desktop it appears small relative to other icons, my guess is I'm seeing the 48x48 version with no scaling.Do I need to do something differently either with my directory structure or my manifest file to get things to display correctly?

Any Touchwiz Xposed modules that allow me to get my TW notification shade to more closely resemble the Nexus/stock experience? And if not, at least make everything smaller so I can fit more in the screen.

Everytime i put my droid into the desktop charger and then remove it later, all of my desktop icons and widgets on all 3 screens dissapear.
2 questions:
1. is there a way to stop this from happening
2. if not, is there an easier way to fix it besides shutting down the phone and restarting it?

I have a G1, love it, but it has a wimpy battery as many of us know. I have been wondering if widgets, desktop icons and even the choice of wallpaper, or picture that is used for the desktop background make any real difference in battery life. No matter how I use the phone, the display is always the main or at least major component of battery usage.
I read on an android website that desktop widgets do tax the battery and it was also suggested that having all three desktops full of icons also does so. Lastly, I was thinking that a black desktop ( I took a picture of a piece of black paper ) would use the least battery because the screen is not producing any light. Any input on these things ? If it would give appreciably better battery life, I would black out the desktops as I have done and not have any icons or widgets.

I was working with Eclipse some minutes ago and I simply launched the emulator with a couple of AVDs that I created (QVGA, HVGA and WVGA screens). I've been doing thta for months, in order to check that every time I change something, the app looks fine for each type of phone.
The problem is that suddenly, the emulator in QVGA and WVGA start with huge icons on the desktop. They even overlap and the home of Android is corrupted. And when I run any application to test the emulator, the screen only shows a portion of the main View. It's like everything was zoomed in. I'm blocked because I can't use anymore the emulator. I'm going to remove completely Eclipse and re-install it, but I don't know if it will be enough.

I'm sure that many of you are aware of this, but for those who aren't, you can now have Custom Icons on your Droid X without the use of any special Launchers. The program that allows you to do this is known as Desktop Visualizer. If you have either downloaded any Custom Icon pack, or simply transferred some custom icons over from your Computer, Desktop Visualizer will allow you to choose the Custom icon that you desire, and then choose the Application or task that you want it to replace.
The really neat thing about this is the ability to create several different sizes of your downloaded Custom Icons. Simply long press on an available space on your home screen and choose from one of 4 different Icon sizes.
Please note that the "Small SS" size creates a smaller icon than the "Small" size, even though it comes first in the list. Also, be aware that some of your Custom Icons may appear sharper than others when enlarged. I assume that these were created at a higher resolution, or whatever the terminology might be.
