I have tried a lot of apps for finding a lost phone - Lookout, Where's My Droid, AndroidLost, Prey etc.None of them have the feature to automatically on gps and data remotely [using sms]
Only AndroidLost has this feature, but when I tried it, it didn't work.So, is there any way to turn on data connection and gps remotely, via sms?

I do know that downloading on Wi-Fi is faster than using data (or so I've read). My question is if I start a download using data connection then turn Wi-Fi on will the download see the Wi-Fi and jump on that to speed up our do I have to start on Wi-Fi for it to use Wi-Fi?

View 8 Replies View Relatedi just picked up a unlocked a moto cliq.. my concern is that i have never had a data plan on my account (at&t). this phone seems to have alot of different apps and widgets updating themselfs continuosly.. i have no problem with while im at home beacuse of my wifi that i can connect to.. but when im not on a wifi connection it seems to still be updating.. which i dont want until i upgrade my plan to unlimited data.. How do i turn off these features or turn off data/ internet acess all together when im not on a wifi connection?

View 15 Replies View RelatedI'm looking for an app that'll help me find my phone via GPS without always having to have GPS enabled. I have Wave Secure and it doesn't have an option to turn my GPS on remotely, Lookout Mobile Security is the same way and Where's My Droid app requires GPS to be previously enabled.
The Internet location ability's accuracy within 200-1000ft radius doesn't seem useful if my phones stolen. I don't think walking from door to door, trying to listen in on each house for my alarm would work out too well.
Any app that could turn my GPS on remotely via codeword text or Internet site would be extremely useful.

I have an idea about using an old phone to tell me the temperature at a remote location. I need to know when a greenhouse or any remote location approaches freezing by sending an alarm to my computer or another Android phone. I thought about something similar to remote GPS locating but getting the temperature data instead of the GPS data. I could just leave my old Android phone in the Greenhouse. I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 with Android 4.0.3 XXLPQ.It's rooted and now has CM9 installed.Unfortunately for some bizarre reason I have no internet connection. I've installed a different modem and it hasn't fixed the issue. APN settings are correct (I've spoken to my network). Sometimes it works absolutely fine then after a few moments it just won't load anything and I get a 'No internet connection' warning. Apps won't work either due to no connection. However I do have a 'H' and sometimes '3G' next to the signal bars. WiFi is working fine. Have full signal.. I've started from scratch and wiped everything several times and re-flashed xxLPQ but still nothing.

View 2 Replies View Relatedi have this strange issue with my old Xperia X10 (about 3 years old, running 2.3.3). The phone runs fine, fully charged can last two days with normal usage (as always). I can play any games for hours before the battery goes dead. But as soon as I turn on data connection, both wifi or mobile network, it runs about 2 minutes and suddenly "turning off" window appears and the phone shuts down. When I start up the phone again, the battery is about 20-30% lower than before the shutdown (depends on the percentage, can drop to zero if charged at 50%) and shuts down again after couple seconds (i can barely type in the PIN code). But if I manage to turn the data connection off again in those few seconds, it doesn't shut down anymore and runs normally again. Weird thing is that in following hour after this incident, the battery slowly recharges itsself back to the original state (or little below it, just as it normally would). Here is the pic:
I guess its not faulty battery or anything, probably its software related but I can't imagine a sw that could drain the battery so fast (in seconds), almost like if it short-circuited the battery.
I have a Sprint HTC One. I recently flashed a new ROM. VENOM 5.0 which supports my PDA.
So, after installing it I downloaded all the required apps and they worked fine.
Later the next morning when I switched on my data connection, all the apps ran on data and everything went on well. Then I installed Root Firewall PRO and set all my required settings, after that none of the third party apps didn't receive any data connection. Neither Whatsapp nor Facebook Messenger received data. Even though they are only messaging apps, they also did not receive any Data Connection.
You can use the 3G network for surfing the Internet and at the same time the wifi network to move files only?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am using ICS Evervolv a5 on my N1. The mobile data connection works only if I don't connect to a WiFi network. If I do, the only way I have found to make it work again is to reboot the phone.
This means that while I am at home, everything works through WiFi, however, if I leave home, I have to reboot my phone once I am sure the phone is far enough from my WiFi access point to be able to connect. Then, it starts working with the cellular data plan
The only thing I can relate to this is that I have the "application protection" app installed, protecting the settings menu do with a code so my kids don't mess up with that. However, is still hard to believe that's the culprit.

My LG G2X is running CM7 (but beautifully skinned for ICS!) and turning off Background Data gives me a 30% improvement in battery life and eliminates most of those annoying status bar advertisements. I really REALLY don't like the privacy vulnerability of my phone checking in with Google Play in the background. For example, occasionally when I check Google Play, my desktop icon for Bing suddenly "disappears" (gasp!)
Meanwhile my Galaxy Tab is running JB and maintains a constant connection with Play. I get regular notifications demanding that I update my apps. And guess what - on my Galaxy Tab my desktop icon for Bing sometimes disappears on it's own! :P
There is an option to restrict background data, but you need to set a data limit, you get an annoying alert in the status bar - and it doesn't work (restrict <> disable)!
I sync nothing with Google and want my privacy.
everytime i installed a custom ROM preferrably CM7 Apocalypse, i always lost my data connection, i dont know why this thing happen, then last time i installed CM7 Apocalypse again (changelog dated 9/7/2012 by itasoulas) i still lost Data Connection though i follow the instructions given, plus i cant receive a message even though i installed a messaging app. im tired im reflashing my phone back to Stock Rom over and over again .
