View 2 Replies View RelatedI've got a Sprint Hero with Android 2.1 (.6 and not .5 as required for unrevoked). All I want is root access (no custom roms) for some applications (mainly WiFi tether). I'm a complete noob to rooting and what I gathered from the guides is that all data is erased. Is there any way (regardless of how complicated) such taht I don't lose any data/apps and just gain root access?

Is there any word when a method to root and install custom firmwares on the Arc (such like Cyagonmod or something)?
I've tried just about most of the common methods I've found so far, and I've gotten nothing.
The only thing I can think of is the fact that the Arc is suspiciously similar to the Nexus 7, so can look into root and see if a port can be made for the Arc.
I recently rooted my phone using odin, and flashed a custom rom. I thought I did a backup of my original hardware but can't seem to get back to it. When using the custom rom, everything works except for sound or any apps that require sound, that includes the phone dialer so I can't recieve or make calls. I tried flashing new roms, I even unrooted and installed the stock s4 bell canada rom. When the phone reboots, it'll say kernel is not seandroid enforcing, and from what I understand, that means that maybe my phone is still rooted? Currently, i'm back to my stock s4 rom, but sound and phone still doesn't work.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThe procedures mentioned to root or install CWM Recovery in Huawei x3 U8510 requires you to go to USB Debugging mode in Settings but my device does not have a working Stock ROM.
I am able to boot into the Stock Recovery mode (Volume + and power button) but unable to install CWM(tried several versions for U8510), SU, Custom ROM etc cuz it says signature verification failed even though I tried cmw zip files which were signed.
I tried going into download mode by pressing Volume - and power button that didn't work too. Even though the Huawei symbol came up I couldn't root the device using

I"ve heard that you can root the Droid 2 to enable to use it as a WiFi hot spot. What steps I have to take in order to do this? I'm somewhat computer savvy, have written software in Visual Basic, C++ and a few other languages.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to root my wife's HTC Rhyme and in my efforts, something hosed the WiFi. All I get is "ERROR" under WiFi in the wireless network settings menu. This happened to me once or twice on my incredible and a kernel re-flash fixed it. I really want to root it so that she can have the benefit of being able to completely backup everything. I've tried ZergRush, TocoRoot, SuperTool, OneClick, SuperOneClick... none of it worked. The only thing that I've been able to do successfully is unlock/re-lock the bootloader.
Is it possible to extract the ROM and/or all critical system files from a stock rooted phone and use them to restore another phone that is malfunctioning?

View 3 Replies View RelatedSo I flashed the latest nightly and stable Cyanogenmod yesterday and it as garbage. Keyboard wasn't working, wifi, lots and lots of problems. Then I flashed Vision-X, which was very nice, however my wifi was not working. I figured it was the kernel so I tried to download one and flash it, didn't fix it. So I went back to stock. Then I came across Omega ROM, which looks amazing. I want it, but I'm afraid that if I go through the flashing process, the wifi won't work again, and to get it back to stock is time consuming. I came across this page: [REF] GALAXY S4 (I9500/I9505) GSM / NON-HLOS.bin - MODEM'S Collection (Odin/CWM/TWRP) - xda-developers
which is supposed to let you flash one of those files in odin and it corrects the wifi issue. The problem is, how in the world are you supposed to know what version to get? There's like 50 listed. I have a Sprint SPH-L20, which is another thing that confuses me, I figured out it's a "I9505", but no where on the box, or in the phone does it say "I9505".
I'm loving my Nexus 5, my first Android phone. I use Pattern Lock. I want to disable Pattern Lock when I'm at my home wifi. I did some research and it looks like apps can only turn off Pattern Lock when the phone is rooted. Is this true? I don't want to root my phone and I'd rather not have to enter Pattern Lock a hundred times a day.

View 7 Replies View RelatedPlease read this before you assume I'm an idiot Anyways, so my thinking is, we can root our Droid X. This gives us access to every system file. amirite? If that's the case, shouldn't it be possible to literally replace everything using some super user priviledged apk? I know linux well, and I know some android development stuff, but I don't know anything about custom roms (on android at least) and how efuse works, so I obviously could be completely off base here. The only hitch I see would be that while the phone is running, many many many of these files are likely in use. It just seems there would be some way to close everything (and I mean EVERYTHING), with the phone still running, and replace all system files with a new set.Now I'm not entirely savvy on how efuse works, and I'm even less sure on how changing the system this way would, from efuse's eyes, differ from a full custom rom flashing, and if, if it did work, you'd still be bricked on the next reboot.Thoughts? I mean it at least seems that we could find a way to replace motoBlur.
View 17 Replies View RelatedI have seen many threads & posts from confused Hero owners. The forum is cluttered full of them. So I thought it would be good for all the information to reside in one thread and if people are still having problems then they should make a new thread. I understand that it is sometimes difficult to find the right instructions as there are conflicting posts / thread everywhere.
There are so many guides out there. Each more confusing than the last. So many unnecessary steps. This way is quick and easy.
Note: I have to the best of my knowledge checked and performed the following guides myself and confirm that they work. If my spelling or grammar is wrong, my methods are wrong, you'd like to add something or whatever please Private Message me with the URL of the post and please specify what is wrong. I will try and change / update it ASAP.
I take no responsibility for anything that may go wrong. It is your responsibility to BACKUP everything periodically. The end.

I have never rooted before. I am not a software engineer and do not want get involved in lots of minutia and typing and small steps I could screw up.
I am ok with downloading some files and say a 15 minute process, but don't want to go hunting and pecking for various files strewn across the internets, and if I miss 1 or a step or type a wrong letter my phone is a brick
Is rooting for me? how long will it take me? is it a giant pita?

View 10 Replies View RelatedI'm a Nexus One user so already using froyo and of course stoked with it.Given that the phone is already superfast and tethering works, is there any real benefit to root, and / or custom ROMs?Previous to froyo the main motivation for custom rom would have been tethering but thats now moot. I am happy with stock android UI and wouldn't bother for just ui tweaks. I am interested however in possibility of getting better battery life, but am leery of losing the comfortable convenience of OTA stock updates. One of the reasons I picked an N1 at the time was that I knew I'd be getting 2.1 and 2.2 before any other model also side question, when you go custom rom and do a backup before flashing, does restoring the backup literally restore everything (apps, data, settings etc.) completely? i.e. everything remains in exactly the right place, your apps are all 100% intact, gmail/contacts/exchange/sms etc. all there etc.
