General :: How To Remove CWM From System Partition
Aug 5, 2012
If my understanding is correct, tools such as CWM Installer and RecoverX are made so that users with locked bootloaders will have the privilege of using ClockWorkMod recovery. I myself used these tools. However, now that I have unlocked my bootloader, I want to remove the CWM they installed onto my system partition. I want to know where I can find it and how I can delete it? The reason why I want to get rid of such is because the kernel I'm using now already has CWM and I see no point in keeping a separate one stored on my system partition.

I am using HTC explorer and a few other android devices. The main problem I face while flashing new roms is the lack of space in System partition! Is there any way to decrease the space of /data and add it to /system? Then I can use int2ext or m2sd script to move /data to /sdext!

resize the system partition of an Android JB 4.2.2 on cubieboard?
Image: sun7i_android_sugar-cubieboard2-8192cu.img
I need more room (it's only 512MB) to install apps.
Well, the APP disk space (nand partition) is very small and the internal "sdcard" too big.
When I install a few applications the space runs out and the system becomes unstable.
I need to increase the nand and decrease internal sdcard to gain more room to my apps...
Well, I started the process by using the tools:
1) To unpack/repack: imgRePacker_204
2) The image ROM: sun7i_android_sugar-cubieboard2-8192cu.img (Android 4.2.2)
3) To burn to flash: PhoenixSuit1.0.6
unpacking the ROM creates a folder named sun7i_android_sugar-cubieboard2-8192cu.img.dump
So, somewhere in internet I see to change the sys_partition.fex file, and search the system nand partition:
Code:
;------------------------------>mmcblk0p8/nande
[partition]
name = data
size = 1048576
user_type = 0x2
so, I change 1048576 to 2097152 (2097152 * 1024 = 2GB)
but :
1) In installed android, the system has only 512MB and not 1GB as show.
2) By increasing this value, nothing happens when I repack back to IMG and flash to the nand.
(all unpak, change, pack, flash process is fine ! )
Here is my devices list and size:
Code:
NAME SIZE MOUNTPOINT LABEL
nand 3.8G
|-nand1 16M Volume
[Code] ......

I was trying to expand my system partition size.
I flashed a zip via CWM on my phone, and must have made a mistake.
After i flash, my partition table seems to be messed up.
My "boot" partition is fine. All other partition seems to be "invalid" now.
I am able to enter fastboot, and "fastboot boot recovery.img" to enter recovery
I am not able to boot, or enter recovery mode directly.
I tried to "erase" via fastboot, but the partition is invalid.
i tried to "flash" via fastboot, but the partition is invalid.
Is there any way to "fix" my partitions?
I have downloaded a CM11.zip for my phone.
I have downloaded a stock rom for my phone.
I have access to these files, which are supposed to be system partition tables. found here:
github mirom/android_bootable_recovery/tree/cm-10.1/res/partition

HTC Desire Z (Vision). I S-OFFed how it's described on CM wiki. Latest radio. About month ago I installed CM 10.1 AlterNdromadus. It worked until yesterday, when it unfortunately installed some system update.
After that phone didn't booted anymore. In recovery it says, that it can't access system partition and formatting is not possible.
I tried connect the phone via fastboot in bootloader, but it also doesn't work. Under windows I have it as unknown device and when I tried manually install drivers from google, it says that they are not compatible with the HW (under ROM it worked before).
I tried also install stock RUU rom (extracted the zip and deleted H-BOOT, radio and recovery) from SD-card (PC10IMG.zip). But it also got frozen on system update.
Here you can see error from 4EXT recovery and CRC images from bootloader.

I am running rooted stock Android 2.3 on LG E405 (no working 4.x ROMs exist for the device)
I have two questions:
1) What is the shell command to manually make android allow the PC to mount androids' (internal) partition as USB-drive? (I cannot think of right keywords to google this one up - )
2) How does android determine which partition is which (i.e. which one to remount for the PC when connecting in "USB storage" mode), beside vold.fstab and init.rc? On android 2.3 that info is not in "framework-res.apk", so where is it? In the partition table itself?
I had switched data partition with internal sdcard partition.
Here's how: Phone had a very small "/data" partition on /dev/block/mmcblk0p21 and large internal "/sdcard" partition on mmcblk0p20
So I reformatted mmcblk0p20 (ex-sdcard partition) into EXT4 and mmcblk0p21 (ex-data partition) into FAT32
Then I changed init.rc to mount mmcblk0p20 as /data type EXT4 and mmcblk0p21 as /sdcard type VFAT (mounting /sdcard was commented out in stock init.rc for some reason). This required modifying my boot image.
I have also set correct partition number in vold.fstab:
[#]dev_mount sdcard /mnt/sdcard auto /devices/platform/msm_sdcc.3/mmc_host[/#]
So basicly I now have a large /data partition and small internal /sdcard. I'm able install up to a gigabyte of APKs and it works fine.
However, when I connect to my PC via USB into "USB Storage" mode, the phone seems to still try to unmount what was previously sdcard partition (/dev/block/mmcblk0p20), instead of what is NOW an sdcard partition (/dev/block/mmcblk0p21) I can still send files to the phone via wi-fi and ADB, but the ability to mount it directly would be nice.
If I accidentally select "erase internal sdcard" from storage menu, that will also most likely erase what is now my /data partition, softbricking the phone. The "factory reset" option will probably only corrupt the sdcard.

I was planning on flashing a ROM. Basically, I created a partition for Apps2SD and I was unsure if it had created or not. I used Quick System Info, and it said "information unavailable", so I'd assumed it hadn't worked. I think it has worked, as I only have 14.35GB of my 16GB card remaining, and I'm sure I had a lot more than that available, even with the contents I previously had on it. How can I remove the partition to make the SD card "whole again" so I can begin this process again?

I'm have been trying to create a second partition on my sd card using miniTool Partition Wizard. But in the end I never get a 2nd partition but just a smaller first one.My approach is as follows:
insert empty SD card (FAT32, 4GB)
open miniTool Partition Wizard
right click on SD card - "Move/Resize"
choose 1gb for unallocated space after - click ok
right click on 2nd partition and choose "create"
create 2nd partition with FAT32/Ext2/Ext3 (tried all options already) and "primary" and Cluster 4KB - click ok
Apply
Afterwards my SD card is still shown as one partition, but this has just 1gb less capacity then before.Neither the Wizard nor the phone detects the 2nd partition then.

I can't figure what is exactly meaning the Partition Sdcard values in CWM.
I have an i9000, with 8Gb of flash. Some are system reserved. Available is around 6Gb.
When i run CWM, i can partition my sdcard, but i don't see what means the possible values (for 256 to 4096).
This is obviously not ruling the space left on /sdcard mountpoint (i partition to 2048, i still have nearly 6Gb available)... So what exactly means partition sdcard from CWM ??
i can't find an answer, and i dislike, when flashing rom, following commands i don't really master (generally a partition SD 2048 / SWAP 256 or SWAP 0).

I have transformed CoolReader into system app with Titanium backup. It was crashing so I tried to move it back to user app again with Titanium backup. However during this procedure TB hanged and after some 20 minutes I killed it. I later tried to uninstall it (again with TB), but it seems that there are still left parts of it somewhere so now I am unable to reinstall the app from google play (error 491) or if I clear cache and data of google play and force the application to install it keeps crashing.
So I would like to ask what should I delete to completely eliminate the traces of CoolReader (or any application in general) and be able to install it again?

I have bought a cheap chinese phone that had a 4g rom. 512mb is mapped to data as p3 and p4 is mapped to internal storage which is 2g.
I have managed to work out how to delete partition4 and extend partition3 as they follow on from each other.
However how do I remove all links to it in the system as it still tries to mount it on boot even though it isn't there.
I have removed the line from vold.fstab and that just crashed the external and internal sdcards and the storage section inside the system settings.

i've noticed that once I update a system apk for the first time from the play store, it appears in the "My Apps" list on Google Play. However if I then disable that app, it still appears under the play store history (with "disabled" shown next to it), but with no way to remove it from the My Apps list. Aside from rooting the phone and removing the apk by hand (which I know causes the App to disappear from the My Apps list, disabled or not), and then reloading the apk, but disabling it before google play detects it again, is there any way to remove that app from the My Apps list in the play store? I've tried online through the desktop store but I can't find a way to do that either.

I need to copy files to the system partition of the emulator. As it is read only by default, I use the command "adb remount" to have write permissions and I can then copy the files.
My problem is that when I close the emulator and that I restart it, the copied files were missing. It's very annoying because I must write file permissions that are read at startup of the emulator (platform.xml file in /system/etc/permissions)

For whatever reason this has been happening a lot to me in the past couple of days. I have never had this problem before. I can get it to work but it seems like I have to reset my phone every time in order to regain access. This is really frustrating because I have been altering the framework and resources files to theme.

I was frantically trying to remove a system installed app yesterday, but google wasnt much help. I found many threads on various forums, all slightly different and all assuming you have a certain level of knowledge about certain things. There was no easy, step by step guide. So I decided to post my guide up here for anyone who like me, wants to uninstall system apps but hasn't the foggiest. This is for if you have the ROM already installed and don't want to do a wipe/re-install. for ROMs you are about to install, just open the zip, browse to systemapp and delete the .apk prior to installation.Enjoy your bloatware free ROM. It goes without saying that you shouldn't remove anything you don't recognise and that if you do, you risk doing harm to your phone. I can take no responsibility for damage caused.

I just got the phone, read over the whole FAQ and had some questions.
1. Is there a way to keep wifi on as the phone seems to turn it off, or does it really kill the battery?
2. Is there any application that is capable of removing the system apps. I didn't understand what they meant when that was asked in the faq.
