My (rooted) phone is:
HTC Explorer (Pico) with "JaggyRom"
Android 2.3.5
HTC Sense 3.5
When the android device is powered off (shut down completely) and plugged in you can hit the power button briefly. This shows a battery with a certain part shaded in to presumably indicate how charged it is and I suppose if its charging or not. There are some dots below the battery. What do they show? There are 5 dots that progress from left to right (empty are area to full area), does this indicated that the battery is charging? Does the rate of progression indicate how fast its charging? Do the dots do something else if the battery is discharging? Is there are lighting bolt inside the battery if its charging?
I have searched and searched and never seen an explanation of this powered off screen, which are slightly different depending on devices (some have charge indicator (i.e., "90% charged") and some just have the dots, some have lightning bolt inside battery some do not).

My sister has a Samsung Galaxy y phone running Gingerbread 2.3.3 (not rooted). She plugged the phone after it ran out of charge and saw this screen (pic attached) with the battery icon empty and a blue triangle with a crossed out battery symbol inside it. The phone would not power up.
We tried everything : checked charger, plug points, usb charging, taking out battery and cleaning contacts but everything is fine.
I'm on a rooted v2.3.4 phone.
The stock battery usage graph screen doesn't show any apps, only core Android elements like Phone Idle, WiFi, Display, etc.
It's not because apps didn't use enough CPU time.
I have a sprint GNex. I just started having this problem recently (but before the 4.3 update). I plug my phone in overnight and at some point in the middle of the night an error occurs that make the phone think it is off the charger and has a fully depleted battery. The battery level icon shows no charge and if I pull the phone off the charger it immediately says it has to shut down due to a low battery. However, as soon as I turn it back on it is back to normal with a full charge.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've noticed that Google maps is always taking up a big portion of the battery in the battery menu. If I freeze it with titanium would that make a significant difference? I use it seldom enough to go thru the trouble of unfreezing it when needed if it's worth it..
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've had a Droid X2 for almost 2 years, and as phones usually do, the battery life became pretty bad. It would get to 5% and then quickly die halfway through the day.
I purchased a new battery, and found it to be just as bad (supposedly). It would be down to 5% by noon without much usage, so I thought maybe the problem was with my phone and not an old battery. I'd just turn it off or try to find a charger...
It took me a few days to realize that it lasts hours past when it gets to 5%. HOURS. It reached 5% at about 1pm EST today, I used it my whole commute home on the train, made a two 5-10 minute phone calls this evening, and now past 9pm it still hasn't died.
So, it's not the battery. It's not the worst problem to have... but it would be really nice to know how much battery I have left.
Note: I rooted my phone about 1 week before I got the new battery.
I had the phone set that when I was charging the phone the screen stayed on. Now I have done a reboot I can't remember how to set it like that.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm deciding between what appears to be a common conundrum: Evo or Droid X. I was leaning towards the Droid X, but now I'm not so sure. Verizon and Sprint both have fairy similar coverage in New York (that I'm aware of), but Verizon's plan costs more than sprint's does, which is kind of a large turnoff. The previous deciding factors were issues with HTC's build quality (scree separation) and poor battery life. I wanted to know if these issues are real concerns, or just hyped up complaints that dont accurately reflect the phone.
View 10 Replies View RelatedNot sure which it is, and the answer will lead me towards either a new, better phone, or just a new battery.
I got my Eris a little over a year ago, so it's out of warranty, and it always had the occasional problem where it would either freeze when the screen was off, so I'd have to do a battery pull, or I'd take it out of my pocket to find that it was restarting.
It went through a few phases where it did both of those things a handful of times per day, then it stopped for a while, then started, then stopped.
Just recently, it's picked up again, and this is about 2 months after I rooted the phone, and until now, it's been great rooted. I've only really noticed this again though since I switched from KaosFroyo to CelebFroyo, but again, I also had these problems BEFORE I rooted too.
I've had the Evo since the release day and I loved it, greatest phone ever in my opinion. Well about two weeks ago, something happened and it broke, yeah it was my fault but i'd rather not talk about it. So I decided to upgrade to the Epic 4G, I found one and bought one last week. I immediately fell in love with that phone. Now here's the worst part, the same day I buy the phone it breaks. I accidentally dropped it from a height of around 1 feet onto my sink. The inner screen shatters but the outside glass is perfectly fine. I couldn't believe it. I believe that the new Super AMOLED screen is very fragile because I've dropped the Evo hundreds of times and nothing ever happened. I then decided to switch back to the Evo and ordered a replacement phone after a difficult process. Yesterday, I received the replacement Evo. Well I immediately notice it's refurbished and it doesn't seem to bother me. It turns on fine the first time and I proceed to activate it. First, the touch screen is not working at all. Only a few sections of the screen work even after full resets and calibrations. The phone then dies and never turns on ever again, I've tried different batteries and chargers but no luck.
View 15 Replies View RelatedI have been monitoring my battery consumption for a while now and noticed that on minimum brightness, with screen timeout set on 15 secs, always 50% to 80% of my battery is being used by the screen! I was wondering if anyone else is getting a similar battery consumption?
View 13 Replies View RelatedI hadn't charged my Droid in two days (yep, still working with GPS and WiFi on), so I thought I'd see how the phone alerted me that the battery was almost dead. When the LED began to flash red, the screen lighted up showing the lock screen with a notification that the battery has less than 10% charge remaining.
However, the screen would not turn off. It stayed illuminated, even after I (briefly) pushed the power button.
If I had wanted to preserve battery power, my only choice was to completely power off the phone.
This is the only situation I've encountered when the screen doesn't shut off after a period of inactivity. Also the only instance when it doesn't shut off when the power button is pressed. And it's probably the only situation where one would want these actions to occur to prevent faster battery drainage.
What have others noticed when their battery is dying?
Had my desire a couple of weeks and it has started playing up.Whenever I try and open any app that uses 3d my screen freezes and the only way to reset the phone is by removing the battery.I've tried factory resetting the phone but the problem seems to be getting worse. Looks like it will be getting returned on Tuesday.
View 3 Replies View RelatedThis would apply to any widget. It just so happens that on most screens (all but my home screen) I have the "Beautify Smaller Home" or whatever its called at the very top. I like easily seeing the time from each screen. And I think it looks nice. Beautiful might be a stretch... but I understand the marketing. But the hypothetical question still applies. If I had the "music" widget or the "messaging" widget on EVERY page. Would that widget use more battery than just one instance? In other words, does EACH INSTANCE of the widget poll for data? Or does the process just poll for data and then each widget just repaints itself on its respective screen as appropriate? I need to know! I'm wondering if I disable "beautiful home" from all but one screens if my battery life will improve. What do you think? Are there any hard-core techies out there that can help me figure it out?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've had this phone for a week now and today it developed something new. When I plug in the battery charger, the touch screen becomes almost entirely non-responsive. When I attempt to slide the Lock Screen away it either won't move or I can get it to slightly move but it bounces right back or even sticks halfway. If I unplug the charger and wait about a minute it's back to working fine again. I've removed the battery a few times now to see if this helped but nothing seems to help. It didn't do this till today. Anyone else run into this problem and if so how did you remedy it?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have now had 7 random crashes in two days and the only way I know to get phone back on is to take the battery out and replace it. When it crashes - the screen goes black, but the green alert light still flashes. Does anyone else have this or a solution? It is stock with just a few added apps from the market.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI posted this on other forums and wanted to get opinions from here also. When my phone is on a white screen, like the Google search page, I can see a light brown circle in the middle on my screen. So I'm wondering if the battery is burning the screen. (Something similar to how the battery burns the back of the white iphones and leave a light burn mark.) But can the battery do that to the screen? I did apply a Zagg screen protector with solution, but the circle is to perfect for it to be from that. So, anyone else seeing this or has had this happen to their screen before?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am currently trying to track one down from t-mobile as there has been many shortages lately but, anyway i was told this was because of the screens being changed to SLCD ones from sony. I know that sony do quality products and that but, will there be much difference e.g battery life wise, representing color etc. compared to the AMOLED screens.
View 2 Replies View RelatedDoes everyone keep their screen brightness on auto or do you set it manually. I notice when it's on auto, sometimes the screen doesn't light up all the way. Will setting it manually drain the battery quicker? I notice in my battery usage that it says display is at like 74%. Not sure if that's normal or not. I have the brightness set at about 1/4 of the way up.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm noticing a bit of screen burn-in on my Fascinate, after having it for about 2 and a half monthes. What is burning in is the prompt that appears when my battery is done charging when I plug it in at night. For some reason, when this prompt appears, the screen won't timeout and turn off again, thus keeping the display on for hours after a charge is complete and burning that display in. Currently, it's a very dim burn-in that is only noticable on a completely white background, but it's frustrating nonetheless (and I assume irreversible.... please correct me if i am wrong though...So, i guess my questions are.Is there a setting that will force my display to time-out when plugged in? I haven't messed with too many of the default settings, so I assume this is default behavior of the phone to keep the display on when charging is complete. If not, is there a way around this, without rooting, that will protect my phone's screen from burning in, when this message appears?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am a new android user, and got my Droid 2 the morning they came out at the Verizon store. Now the guy that was helping me at the store told me that the battery life would be bad because of the high resolution screen but I didn't expect it to be this bad. I have been having really bad battery issues and I don't even use it constantly. I have it on around 20% brightness during the day, and I really only send text messages, and some web browsing but not a huge amount. My battery will be drained after 6 hours or so, and will need a charge again. When checking on battery manager it does say that most of my energy is going to my screen, but like I said I don't even have it close to the full brightness. I have been using an app killer program to try to maintain that also, but I did read somewhere that it can actually hurt your battery more, from closing and opening apps. Just wanted to hear some feedback from other users since we a couple days after launch. Everything else has been great with this phone, and I am REALLY enjoying the android OS after switching from a Blackberry.
