View 2 RepliesI'm looking for a text widget that can access a text file that is located on my phone or dropbox and display the contents of the file. It should always update itself as soon as there is a change in the text file. Does an app like this exist and where can I find it?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a PPTP VPN connection that I use from time to time to access files on my Windows server at work when I am at home on my laptop or on another computer. It works great... I just map the drive in windows and bingo, my files are there.
So, I was excited when I set my VPN connection up on my Samsung Captivate (it is rooted, if it matters). I set everything up, and it connected on the first try. I sat there and looked at the screen and thought, "okay, what do I do now?"
Perhaps I am missing the boat on this whole VPN for Android thing, but is there a way to access the files on a VPN server? I have the ability to map the drives on a PC, but I can not find a spot to do it on the Android.
I feel a bit blind developing on an emulator for Android and not being able to see the file system on the AVD (.img). Is there a way to mount it in Windows or Linux, so that I could at least see the file listing and maybe contents?
View 1 Replies View Relatedim new to Android. before i used a Windows Phone. So i have setup my normal Exchange Account, like before on Windows Phone. I have found the Contacts, the Calendars, the Mails but not the ToDo or Tasklist. Where do i found the Todos? I hope, i do not need a thirt party app? I can not think that such a simple function is not included in Android.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've read the answer to a question as to how to access the contents of the databases, however I cannot seem to get it to work on my machine. Here is the shell log:
C:android-sdk-windows ools>adb -s emulator-5554 shell
# sqlite3 /data/data/com.android.demo.notepad2/databases/notes
sqlite3 /data/data/com.android.demo.notepad2/databases/notes
SQLite version 3.5.9
Enter ".help" for instructions
sqlite> .tables
.tables
sqlite> ^C
C:android-sdk-windows ools>
SQLite simply echos my commands back to me, even although the Eclipse file browser tells me it exists. If I use the sqlite3 tool and use ".tables" the commands are accepted.
Is the SQLite syntax different through the emulator is am I missing something?
I downloaded re-scan media root, which supposedly deactivates it, but not really. It keeps coming back and usually when I see it, it is already too late and the battery is low.
which package do I have to uninstall (freeze) to kill the media server? I don't really need it, I can find my media alright myself. I do have a SD card. Yes, I do have media on it. No, I will not remove that media. If media server is overwhelmed with more then 30 files, it has to go (not the media itself). No, rebooting does not work.
No, re-installing the whole OS or doing a factory reset is not a solution and not a proper way to do troubleshooting (you also don't just kill a person instead of giving them surgery) I can't wipe out all my data every time I got a problem.
I'm ready to suffer any consequences by a disabled media server, at this point it can only get better. I just want the blasted thing stopped and switched off.
I know there are already alot of apps to protect the phones and its contents BUT is there anything stopping a thief from simply taking out the sdcard and putting it in another phone or reader to view and access the contents of the sdcard? If you plan on storing personal info on the card, whether it'd be photos / files etc It would be really good to know that even if the sdcard is taken they still cannot access the info. I would've thought this is a pretty common request. something like trycrypt or storage crypt for the microsd card would be really good.

I have TV shows, home movies, and ripped movies that I want to be able to view when not at home. Free would be nice, but easy would be best. I don't want to have to setup dynamicDNS or anything complex if possible. I am shocked that this is not something easily possible today. Or maybe it is but I am not searching for it the right way.

I am sure it has to do with a certificate (Equifax one).At work when I get it on the wifi it makes me install a certificate and it will be on exchange fine, actually thats how i set it up. But one cell data or anything else it won't sync.On 2.1 it synced fine.

Firefly Media Server :: Home Page
it's a clone of the iTunes music sharing service. It allows you to share your music collection over your network.
I have a firefly server setup and share my music colection with all my systems. As well I VPN into my network from work/coffee shop and can listen to my tiny 500GB music colection on my netbook (ubuntu 9.10 btw)
I would love to be able to do the same with my new phone. My curent iphone(jailbroken) has a firefly server that i can share the music from it's ipod side. But alas no client.
I'll be new to Android starting on June 4th and I'll be retiring my Blackberry Tour. There are a few apps on my Blackberry that I really like and use daily. So I have a few questions for the Android gurus out there.
1. Exchange Email- I work for a Computer Company that blocks access to their Exchange Server and although I've requested access repeatedly, they deny me every time. Is there a work around for Android similar to the Blackberry Desktop Redirector?
2. Sirius/XM- I know it's not available yet for Android but I was wondering if anyone has an update on the future availability of this App for the Evo.
3. Password Keeper- I would not be able to survive without this App on my Blackberry. Is there something as good or better available on the Android Market?
4. Can anyone recommend a good Chess Application for the Evo?
Is there any way to access the a database server directly in Android? If not, why? Also, are there any external tools for this?

I'm very interested in Android because, I think, it's more flexible but one thing will deerminate my solutions and it's gonna be "being able to connect to a Terminal Server". It's the only way the can access tp their emails and other documents securly. Do you know any free or paid software to perform this?
View 3 Replies View RelatedAt my campus, to get internet connection, I need to log on to a SSH server like they write:.you must manually log in to the firewall server, by establishing a pseudo-tty-less ssh connection to it. The following command can be used on most systems: ssh -T -l [username] [server-URL]I must be logged on to the server for as long as I want internet.Does anyone have any idea how to accomplish this on Android?I have a little experience in writing basic apps for Android, but not much with SSH, any help is appreciated.
/Update
Tried ConnectBot, but the server replies "You may only connect without a pseudo-tty!" at login attempt. I have no idea what "pseudo-tty" is, and I have looked in the settings of ConnectBot, there is no mention of this.
/Update2
Searched for any further info about the pseudo-tty-less function, in connection with OpenSSH. No luck so far, only a definition of the -T parameter which has no equivalent in ConnectBot.
Our video server protect video data with cookie authentication. Video player app must authenticate and store session key to cookie strage before access to video server. First, My android video player app access to authentication server using HttpClient class in android library. Next, app access to video server with HttpClient's cookie data. But I think HttpClient can't pass cookie data to VideoView.

View 3 Replies View RelatedPart of why I bought a HTC Desire to replace my 2G iPhone was getting away from iTunes - piece of bloat required me to keep a Windows computer around, updating music was pesky, etc.
The plan with the HTC is to sync it over Wifi when it connects to my home network. The system it syncs with is a media server running Linux and storing my music collection.
I've gotten so far to have Tasker start FTPServer on connecting to Wifi, and have built a little script called every 10 minutes by cron that checks for presence of the phone. If it finds the phone, it connects and syncs a folder, then makes the ftp server on the phone shutdown, so it won't reconnect every 10 minutes.
So far, so good (I'll gladly share the bash script, if anybody wants to use. Needs some more polishing, though)
The bit that bugs me is playlists. I can create m3u playlists and copy them over fine, however once they are on the phone, they disappear from the Music folder and cannot be changed/deleted anymore - except by the built in music app. This is quite inconvenient, since I have a number of podcasts that get updated daily and that I'd like to take on the phone, with a playlist showing the newest episodes first. I can make the playlist easily on the computer, however the phone will end up with multiple copies of these playlists, which I can't get rid off.
If there's no way, I'll work around by editing track/album MP3 tags and grouping my stuff together this way, but I'd prefer using simple playlists...

I click on the intranet link and received a message that says "there is a problem with the security certificate for this site." It gives me an option to continue or cancel. I click on the continue button and the page says "You are not authorized to view this page. Your web browser is sending a WWW-authenticate header field that the web server is not configured to accept. Http error 401.2-unauthorized: Access is denied due to server configuration".
I don't have this problem on my iphone. My friend has a sprint Palm phone and it doesn't have this issue either. My other coworker uses a verizon Android phone and it doesn't have any issues accessing the website. Sprint duplicated the error at tech support with another Hero phone and advised it is the companies website and not sprint. I contacted my company and they advised it is isolated to the HTC Hero phone.
Downloaded this update a few days ago and have yet to run into a song that sounds horrible as it did initially (even some in version 1.5 were a little off). I also noticed I'm receiving more data according to the Media Server Service. Think they upped the bit-rate over 3g? This is strictly speaking of audio streamed over 3g. I cant find a change log for Pandora....Anyone else have any thoughts on the new version? BTW I am a subscriber to Pandora One and use this in the car during my commute through the AUX IN in my stereo.
