General :: HTC One / No OS After Wipe
Mar 5, 2014
I have an HTC one developer edition, I did an advance wipe of my phone because it wasn't charging, it said that USB Host mode was on. It only charged when the phone was off. I decided to wipe everything but the pictures (or so I thought) but once it finished the wipe the entire OS systems was erased, know the only thing I can do is enter TWRP. I just bought the phone!

What is being wiped when we apply "Wipe cache" option from recovery menu? So what does "cache" in the recovery menu refers to? Is doing this useful, without firmware update or wipe data-factory reset?

Well the title basically says it all.. In looking to sell my galaxy tab 10.1. But first I want to wipe all my information off of it.. Set everything back to default before I sell it.... Not sure on how to do this so when I sell it none of my personal info is still on it.

I was flashing CM9 from CM7 on my Motorola Defy, botched it up intially due to a slip of my finger which led to me to Clear the cache first. But then I restarted the entire process by Clearing Data -> Installing -> Flashing Kernel and so on...
But when I tried to clear the Dalvik Cache, the phone didn't delete it. It didn't give me a message that it wiped the cache, but it didn't say otherwise either. This led me to believe that the cache just didn't exist anymore.
As a result, I'm unable to install apps - Says there is no memory and I need to make more. Also, everytime the phone comes on is treated as the first time. It takes me through the whole process of Setting up an account and everything. This has rendered my phone obsolete.

what exactly does a data reset do? Does reformat (a) partition(s)? If so, which? If not, which files/directories are removed; What exactly IS deleted? Second, how would I do a data reset through ADB?
My screen is basically broken. It works for a split second when first starting up (cold boot), and flickers off and doesn't turn on. Everything else works. I'm planning to resell for parts; I think I've invested way too much for this phone (screen broke before, and then got stolen, and now broken screen again). I would like to erase all data on the phone. I would normally do this through Clockwork recovery, but can't on the account of being blind due to broken screen.
I did come across this thread, but it still left me questions. Is reformatting system necessary? How would reflash my ROM via ADB? What about wiping Dalvik cache? Is dalvik stored within the cache partition?
As for the phone itself:
Samsung Galaxy S Epic 4G (Sprint)
RandomROM Thunkderhawk 3.5
USB Debugging enabled.

I was just flashing a new ROM for my gio, and made sure that i did a factory reset, wiped cache partition and wipe dalvik cache. but when i went to wipe the dalvik, CWM froze for a bit, then showed the yes/no part for like half a second, then kicked me back to the main menu. It does this every time. What to do? or should i just reflash it?

I have a rooted EVO 4G that has worked fine until now, I backed up the phone to my PC with a full copy back up but did not back up the ROM Manager like I usually do, I tried to restore the phone and it will not place the saved calander with the copy and paste back to the phone through the USB when mounted as a disk drive, I have all the contacts and apps that I need saved but lost all of my calander details which for me include 6 months of booking and events that I use for my business, it will only restore from my last back up on the ROM manager. Is there a way to replace just the calander file, I'm not sure how to view it in the PC back up or even where it would be located.

As same as the title, I found several posts said that the battery stat would be incorrect and it should be wipe after a new Rom installed.
My question is:
1. Aren't we do the 3 wipe before installing the new Rom and the battery stat should be also wiped?
2. Why the Android OS needs the battery stat file to determine the battery status?

I need to securely wipe any personal data on my phone and tablet.
On my Linux notebook I just zero the whole disk one or two times and reinstall the OS, with my Android devices it's a little bit more complicated.
Is there a way to securely wipe all my data, for example using fastboot?
Isn't there anything comparable to the good old
Code:
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdX
So that I can simply flash a new Android OS afterwards? Or at least for the data and cache partitions so that I just keep the OS
A method that definitely works is to just write a file to the data and cache partitions until there is no space left, but I wondered whether there is a "cleaner" solution?

Need to wipe data from the bootloader on DroidX. Stuck in a bootloop with no working vol - button to clear data from recovery. Have tried every sbf out there but none of them wipe data (as they likely shouldn't). Told Verizon my battery went dead during an update and now it just keeps restarting.

I have a major problem, because I can't use the recovery mode, because something is removed on the system level, that the recovery mode needs to start. (it isn't knox)
Also I can't boot up the system, because of an endless loop, when the device booted into the system, because there is also something removed.
I have now tried to install several other roms, all 4.2.2, but It still has the same errors, because the system doesn't get wiped and the bug remains even on a fresh rom. Stock or Custom. The Aroma Installer would work, but there isn't a rom with it, that is flashable via odin, only cwm.
Only download mode can be used to do something with the system.
So here are my questions:
What can I do, to erase/wipe the system only using the download mode (with odin/?/heimdall/ ?
Bonus: What exactly does the recovery mode needs to start...?
Bonus: Is there a flashable rom for the s4 that has the aroma installer ?
Bonus: Why most rom recently only use cwm to get installed ? (I guess it has alot more options and is easier to handle..)

My SGSII(AT&T)'s screen stopped working so they're sending me a new (or refurbished) one and then I have to send them mine. So is there any way to wipe the memory or factory reset the device (which is rooted but still has the stock rom) without the use of the screen? Also, when I plug it into my computer it doesn't appear in Computer (although the computer does know it's been plugged in by the sound it makes, maybe it's set to Charge Only even though I always had it set to data transfer).
How do you wipe a galaxy s 4g with broken screen.

I've got a TF101, factory stock HC rom, I installed revolution HD (ICS) and it's a nice rom, but it has a few quirks with ICS...so I really really want it to go back to stock rooted + cwm HC, *just* that.
I've tried using cwm 5.5.0.4 and flashing directly the file ww_epad_user-8.6.6.19 which is a HC already prerooted + cwm that I found on the specific XDA forum section, but whenever I reboot the system, go to "about tablet", the SAME firmware is installed (4.0.3) and build number android revolution 3.0.1...I've tried wiping cache, dalvik, tried different roms, using adb to mess around, NOTHING takes me out of revolution HD back to stock.

A colleague thought it would be interesting to see what the wipe data command on Exchange would do to my phone. It appears to have bricked it. The phone boots, shows the THL logo for a few seconds then shows a dark grey screen.
Is this phone recoverable.

how to sanitize my phones' internal memory.
I have an HTC ONE, and a Samsung Galaxy S4 that I am trying to sell. I know that it's fairly easy to recover data from a wiped partition by using programs like "TenorShare Android Data Recovery", unless data has been written over them at least once.
I had taken pictures of some documents containing highly sensitive data with the phone, and would like to make sure that those documents are not recoverable by the next user.
Neither of them have the USB Mass Storage option in the settings, so I can't just use some secure wipe program.

My galaxy S2 fell and my digitizer is apparently non-working - I can see the screen sort of, but there is no touch response.
Anyway, I can't let just about anyone who I take it to have access to my data, since my contacts are stored on the google cloud, I have them all anyway, but I either need to:
1. Access the phone via PC and wipe the data by emulating the screen on my PC.
I tried using Kies air to do it - it recognizes the phone, but I can't open it through it because my phone is locked and it won't give me access otherwise. Of course I can't unlock it since the digitizer is dead.
I tried using software like droid-at-screen, installing the proper SDK components, BUT the phone never got recognized. It is my deduction that I have to enable USB debugging, which, again, I can't do since I don't have the touch interface.
2. The other solution would be to wipe all data manually, which I assumed was done holding the 2 volume buttons + power button, but all that ever got me to was the lock screen along with a "safe mode" in the corner.
