General :: What Does Wipe Cache Do

May 17, 2012

What is being wiped when we apply "Wipe cache" option from recovery menu? So what does "cache" in the recovery menu refers to? Is doing this useful, without firmware update or wipe data-factory reset?

General :: Can't Wipe Dalvik Cache

Jun 19, 2012

I was flashing CM9 from CM7 on my Motorola Defy, botched it up intially due to a slip of my finger which led to me to Clear the cache first. But then I restarted the entire process by Clearing Data -> Installing -> Flashing Kernel and so on...

But when I tried to clear the Dalvik Cache, the phone didn't delete it. It didn't give me a message that it wiped the cache, but it didn't say otherwise either. This led me to believe that the cache just didn't exist anymore.

As a result, I'm unable to install apps - Says there is no memory and I need to make more. Also, everytime the phone comes on is treated as the first time. It takes me through the whole process of Setting up an account and everything. This has rendered my phone obsolete.

General :: FTFs Flashtool Does Not Show File List And Neither Wipe Cache Or Data

Dec 19, 2012

OK, before I start, it's about an LT15i. I don't know what's happening, but at some .FTFs Flashtool does not show the file list (middle column) and neither "wipe cache" or data and one FTF has the "wipe cache" option only. This is really annoying. Tutorials specify a download link for a specific FTF and after starting Flashtool and selecting the flash option, that FTF is not showing up properly. Should I download an earlier version of the program?

HTC Incredible :: Wipe Cache Only?

Sep 2, 2010

If you went and wiped cache only, not data, and installed a new rom, would all data remain? What exactly is this cache that nandroid wipes?

I'd like to install a rom for a friend but dont want to completley wipe his phone. I just want to install the virtuous rom, which is basically the stock 2.2 update rom and would like to keep all his data on the phone. would just wiping the cache work? I know some people just install without wiping but would wiping cache help?

And I know a wipe is always better, thats what I do on my phone. But its not mine and would like to save his data.

Motorola Droid :: Data And Cache Wipe Before Installing Rom

Oct 6, 2010

I'm considering installing a rom and I've heard that doing a data and cache wipe is the proper thing to do to ensure success. What I'm concerned about is how easy it is to restore/re-do all of your settings like ringtones, notification settings, app settings etc. How long does it usually take you to set up your phone again after installing the new rom?

Motorola Droid :: Wipe And Delete Data & Cache?

Aug 5, 2010

If you do not root, you could go from 2.0.1 to 2.1 with no wiping of data and cache, it just installs & away you go. Same with 2.1 to 2.2. No wiping of data and cache and all is still there as you left it: apps, settings, preferences, etc. SO, why is it important to do this if you root? What's the difference? And, who said it was important to do? Is there some exact proven logic on why if your rooted you must do this and if not, your somehow fine? That 1 step difference causes a lot of extra work, so I am wondering why this is said to be a must for rooters and non rooters need not do it when they get updates?

I have installed UD8 for about a week now. But ever since I have flashed some kernels (slayers 1100lv, chevys 1100 lv, p31200) I have not had the stability nor the quickness that the original 800 stock kernel gave.

I made a nandroid backup b4 flashing those roms..so my question is this: Do i have to wipe cache/data before i flash my nandroid backup? Or can i just flash it w/o doing any extra steps?

HTC Incredible :: How To Know ROM Is Applied

Nov 26, 2010

I have what's going to seem like such a silly question but I swear I looked and couldn't find the answer!I have been rooted for a while but never played with ROM's or anything like that.I am strait stock except for a few root only apps and removing bloatware.Well, now I am getting spammed with the OTA message and I am sick of it. So I am going to apply the Virtuous ROM (I actually like stock) so it'll go away. Here's my question... since the ROM I am choosing looks just like stock sense, how will I know I actually applied the ROM correctly? Is there somewhere in the settings (About Phone maybe?) where it says Virtuous 3.1? I assume it'll be there in the software info, but I have no idea.

Android :: Android - Image Cache Stategy And Memory Cache Size

Jun 21, 2010

I'm implementing an image cache system for caching downloaded image.

My strategy is based upon two-level cache:
Memory-level and disk-level.

My class is very similar to the class used in the droidfu project

My downloaded images are put into an hashmap and the Bitmap objet is wrapped inside a SoftRererence object.

Also every image is saved permanently to the disk.
If a requested image is not found into the Hashmap<String,SoftReference<Bitmap>> it will be searched on the disk, readed, and then pushed back into the hashmap. Otherwise the image will be downloaded from the network.

Since I store the images into the phisical device momery, I have added a check for preserve the device space and stay under a 1M of occupied space:

CODE:.................

This method is called sometime afte a disk writing:

CODE:..............

What I'd like to add is the same check on the HashMap size to prevent it will grow too much. Something like this:

CODE:.....................

My question is:
What could be a right MAX_MEMORY_SIZE value? Also, Is it a good approach? A good answer also could be: "Don't do it! SoftReference is already enough"

HTC Incredible :: Just Applied My Zagg Full Body Shield

Looks pretty craptacular right now. I know I'm supposed to give it another 12-24 hours to dry and "cure" (although I seem to recall seeing the timeframe of 24-48 hours on this board, anyone vouch for that?), but I'm a little concerned.Sorry for the huge crappy pic, had to take it with my old phone. But you can see the smears and lines. Those are what I'm worried about. Anyone who's used a Zagg able to comment on whether those disappear in the curing process? I'll be sure to post better pics when it's completely dried for people.
