General :: GS3 Rooted - How To Disable Updates For Specific Apps In Market
Jul 24, 2013
It used to be the market would separate apps that were approved for auto update from those that had disabled auto update set. One could then simply hit the Update All (for the group) button and it would update ONLY the apps that were auto update enabled. Over the past few months Play Store has changed their behavior in that it no longer separates the apps and will only enable auto updates for everything or nothing.
How can I hide or otherwise prevent these few apps that I do not want to update from being in the play store update list? As it is now, I have to selectively update each individual app from the list, skipping the few apps I do not want updated.
Currently on a Samsung GS3, rooted, stock.

if there was a way to disable updates for specific apps on an android?
I own a Samsung Galaxy S3 and I always have the apps that came with the phone wanting to be updated. I don't use them since I consider many of them to be a waste of space on my phone and would rather get rid of them, but would at least like to stop the updating for them.

I have had androids for over two years now and am getting more and more concerned every time I download an app and seeing that it wants to READ my SMS message and Contacts.
Is there a way I can disable reading of SMS messages or any one of the other permissions by specific apps, or all apps?
Are we living in a world where any "joe schmo" can upload an app the to the app store and wait for those inadvertent downloads and collect all your personal information, and that's after all the time we spend protecting our identity and personal details?

I have recently updated about 10 apps manually that I already had on my G1, since I saw them relisted in the market (again) but higher up on the "by date" tab. This system is horrid. If a user has an app and a new release comes online it should not only notify the user it should offer to auto update and the first screen that pops up should be a release notes screen so we know why it was updated and what to look for.Another more minor annoyance is that devs seems to lose track of download counts and comments in new vers. This is much more minor, but useful to both the community and the device. If anyone from Android peeks in here, hopefully this makes a list of suggested improvements.

Is there a way (an app, framework module, flashable zip, whatever) to disable toast notifications? Ideally, this should work for a specific app but if that's not possible disabling them in total would be fine, too.
"Why would you do that", you may ask. Well, the thing is, I use the app "Best Wifi" to switch my wifi automatically at home since I'm using a repeater there. But as soon as I'm in an area without wifi connection, it tries to connect to a wifi and keeps on sending toast notifications with "no APN found blabla" every 15 seconds. Thats especially disturbing when I use my phone as a navigation device in the car. So, it would be great if I could block those toast notifications from popping up.
Currently, I'm using a rooted Nexus 5 with Beanstalk ROM on 4.4.2.

just got my new phone and unfortunately i had to realize, that there are some apps i cant install.
I know that this issue depends on my Playstore, so i want to install a custom playstore with no restrictions.
Did this many times on other phones and never got problems.
But this time there is a problem:
I can install the modded version of the playstore without any problems. But it self-updates every time and i cant do anything against.
In the Last android versions there was a "Market Updater" App, which you could just freeze to avoid this.
But in my Android 4.2.2 theres no such app.
How I can prevent the Playstore from updating?

I use my phone to with two calendar accounts, one google-account for private and one outlook exchange account for company. I want both to sync so that I can watch the calendar (that works). I want my private account to notify me of calendar events (that works). But I do NOT want my company account to notify me of calendar events, because there are so many meetings, that its like SPAM (and I am already reminded by my laptop at work).
So: Can I turn off the notifications for a specific account?
To clarify:
- no I do not want to change the notifications on the appointments, because I do want to be reminded at work
- no I do not want to disable the synchronisation for the company account, because I do want to be able to look at my calendar.
It is easily possible to disable the mail notification for the company account only, but it seems not to be possible for calendar notifications?

I am a newbie to Android world. Recently I bought a Freedompop (which gives you 500MB free data every month) and I wanna use it with my Nexus 7 as a GPS/infotainment system on my car. However, I want to disable App/system auto-update under Freedompop WiFi on my car (Freedompop actually works like a tethering point), but still enable it at home (so I can still get some updates and I won't forget to turn it off when I get on my car). Is there any app will do that? Or any tricks?

Since I reset my phone a few weeks ago, I get "Application updates available" notifications every day at 8:50am.
I cannot switch them off. I have disabled notifications in Google Play -> Settings -> Notifications, yet I still get them every day at the same time.
I am running Android 2.3.5 on a HTC Desire S, with HTC Sense Version 3.0

I still have some apps and my phone and wifi seem to be working fine.I don't have Market, Rom Manager, Titanium (but I DO have SuperUser). When I USB my phone to PC - the PC doesn't see either the phone pr the card although I haven't reinstalled HTC Sync). At this point, I don't really even know if I'm rooted or have busybox.I'm really puzzled as to what I should do next:I don't know whether to do a phone restore from Settings or, perhaps from Recovery? Or whether to find a RUU (Is there one with the updated radio or with Froyo? Or, I guess I could wait for the OTA - but that's a wimped out way out and it might not even work at this point. Or, do I want to try reinstalling Rom Manager and do the permission fix - then reflash one of the Froyo Roms. But would that get me Market back? In all cases I'm gonna have to reinstall most of my apps since most resided (at least partially) on the dead sd. Fortunately appbrain has a record of all my apps. - but, from what I understand, there's no way to install the Market, except via HTC/Google/Verizon.

My aTrackDogSD tells me 14 apps have newer versions out but when It directs me to the appropriate market page for the app it just shows "open" "uninstall" NOT update. Where as it should prompt to update I have auto update enabled and the version in the market is newer than the version of my app. SO that meens I would have to uninstall each app then reinstall to acquire the newest version correct?

One thing I noticed with the market is it seems to periodically check for updates, but it doesn't seem to check that often. It seems like the Market application waits for a group of apps to get updated at once before it notifies you, or it seems to only check for updates on a certain day where app updates are rolled out onto the Android market (similar to PSN/XBL updates)
how to force the Market application to check for updates to my apps? I was thinking maybe going to the Market app in the system settings and clearing cache/data, but I was wondering if there's some other way to do it.

I have an HTC Desire HD on Orange UK. In the market I have only ever seen apps & books. I have never seen movies or music listed. I have, until now, assumed that these were probably only available in certain countries because of licensing agreements.
I was discussing the rebranding to Google Play with a colleague, only to find out that they have, and have done for a while, a section in their Market /Play Store for movies. They have an HTC Desire S on T Mobile UK.
Why would I not have movies available via my market? I'm guessing that it wouldn't be handset compatibility, so would it be that Orange are blocking this for some reason? Who else, in the UK, has the movies option, and who doesn't? What is the common ground between each group?
They do not have music as a Market section, so I guess that I was right about this, and it is not available to the UK at all?

In Android, installed apps get an UID > AID_APP (10000). However, I would like to make a certain app get a specific UID. Can I somehow add this to android_filesyste_config.h or some other way? What part of AOSP would I have to modify to make it work? I tried locating the code that handles setting the UID of new installed packages, but failed to find anything relevant.

Now everything works fine, but when I recover my data backup, it hangs up again. With unyaffs I extracted all content, and now I want to recover just specific .asec files, that means just for specific Apps I need the data of.

I have an app that was installed via Android Market. And so, the Android Market knows when new versions are out and notifies me of an update. Titanium Backup calls this the 'Market Link', not sure what else it could be called.
how would I go about 'disconnecting' the app from the Market? Deleting the market link as if it were side-loaded?
Yes, I know this means no more updates for the app etc. Which is actually what I'm after.
I'm using a SGS - DocRom V9.6 with Speedmod Kernel k13a

We have a variety of devices for testing purposes, and now that Froyo is being pushed (to the Nexus One so far at least), we have to constantly dismiss upgrade requests. There is no apparent "stop asking me" button.
So, is there any way I can disable OTA OS updates? We want a number of these phones to stay on old OS versions.

How can we put a negative filter on Titanium Backup so that it excludes specific apps instead of selecting for it (as does the default positive filter)?
For example, I want to exclude Seek Droid from TB's "Backup New Apps" schedule, so that I will back up everything that's been recently installed, but not Seek Droid.

As soon as the 2.2 update was leaked for the Droid, I downloaded it and applied it to my phone, rather than keep waiting for Verizon to push it out weeks later. The update process went smoothly, and I have been running Froyo for a couple weeks now.
The problem is, now my phone bugs me with the OTA update notification constantly, and the only options I have are to install, or install later. I have no option to decline the update. Is there any way to tell android to stop attempting to apply the OTA update? I am surprised it is even trying, as its already running 2.2 so why would it still try and update? If it matters, I have rooted my Droid.
